‘Stereotypical’: Grocery Store Customers Outraged By Black History Display Promoting Snoop Dogg’s Wine

The Black History Month display at a supermarket in Georgia was called “stereotypical” by community leaders.

WSB-TV reports the display at a Kroger in Peachtree City, featuring Snoop Dogg’s popular 19 Crimes wine, was taken down after several customer complaints. The display was in full view upon entrance near the produce section. Johnnie Jones, customer and former NAACP chapter president, called this display “offensive” and has nothing to do with Black History. “Proud of drinking wine? No,” Jones said. “We’re proud of the Tuskegee Airmen whose shoulders I stand on.”

Allegedly, a life-size cut out of the west coast rapper was seen with a table hosting his wine label as well as Black Girl Magic wine.

Next to the display was a board reading, “Celebrating Black History Month, ” with a clenched fist accompanied with phrases like “Dream Like Martin” and “Say it loud, ‘I’m Black and I’m proud.” Jones said.

Others said trailblazers who could have been highlighted, include Atlanta’s first Black Mayor, Maynard Jackson, or Ed Johnson, the first Black Mayor of Fayetteville.

“We need to be thirsty for knowledge,” Jones said.”I just felt it was offensive.”

Other customers disagree, feeling it’s not that serious. Pam Lewis told WSB-TV there is nothing wrong with it.

“I didn’t think there was anything wrong with showing a display of Snoop,” Lewis explained. “I mean, if you want to drink wine whether it’s Black History Month or not it shouldn’t really make any difference.”

Twitter users added to the conversation saying it’s not that deep.

The grocery giant did make a statement, apologizing if the display caused any harm. “Kroger is committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in all we do,” the statement read. “Our intentions are never meant to be offensive.”

‘Brat Loves Judy’ Shows Judy’s Hospitalization For Lung Blood Clots and Enlarged Heart After Egg Retrieval

Season 3 of “Beat Loves Judy” has been announced just on the heels of Da Brat and Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart announcing their pregnancy.

While the happy married couple is expecting their first child together, the new season follows their emotional fertility journey to welcome a child into their already busy lives, ET reports. Viewers will get an inside look into Brat and Judy preparing to expand their blended family while juggling their demanding careers, combining their business empires, and dealing with family matters.

A sneak peek shows Da Brat’s emotional reaction to Judy’s health scare after her wife underwent an egg retrieval as part of their journey to conceive a child. It was after successfully retrieving 19 eggs, that Judy started to experience shortness of breath and saw her stomach swell in size “as if she was pregnant,” Brat said.

“They said it might be a hyperstimulation of the ovaries,” Judy said from the hospital bed.

Judy learned she had blood clots in her lungs which resulted in her heartbeat speeding up on one side and an enlarged heart. Judy was hospitalized for some time as she saw a series of doctors including a cardiologist, a hematologist, and an oncologist.

“I’m fine now,” Judy said. But Brat still broke down in tears over the emotional toll the health scare took on her.

“But you…,” Da Brat said before more tears started to fall. Judy also started to tear up.

“Don’t do that,” Judy said while trying to maintain her composure.

Brat opened up about the rocky road she and Judy traveled to conceive their child.

“It’s been quite a journey,” Da Brat told People. “there’s a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40.”

The couple also experienced a miscarriage before successfully conceiving the child Brat is currently carrying.

“I had never been so excited about something that I didn’t even know I wanted,” Da Brat said. “I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me.”

“Brat Loves Judy” premieres on WeTV Thursday, April 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Chad Johnson Lived at the Cincinnati Bengals Stadium for Two Years to Save Money

Chad Johnson was one of the NFL’s loudest trash talkers. His bravado was unmatched. However, when it came to Johnson’s finances, the former Cincinnati Bengal was frugal.

During a sit-down with Shannon Sharpe on Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, Johnson discussed how he saved money.

“There’s nothing that I can buy that’s bigger than my name alone. So, it made no sense,” Johnson said. “But everybody’s caught up in the image and looking a certain way and being rich. Do you know how hard it is to live like that consistently and be fly everyday?”

Wanting to save money, Johnson flew the budget airline, Spirit. He purchased his watches, necklaces, and jewelry from Claire’s.

Johnson said to Shape that he saved 80-83% of his $48 million salary he made for 11 seasons.

“People think to fix the problem is, ‘Well, give me more money, and I will be alright.’ But the more you make, the more you spend—if you have no discipline.”

Johnson also added that he lived at the Bengals’ stadium his first two years in the NFL.

“I didn’t move out of my grandmother’s house because I was content and used to where I live,” Johnson said. “I didn’t move out of my grandmother’s house until my fourth year in the NFL.”

Johnson has been retired for a decade now, and has yet to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Recently,  T.J. Houshmandzadeh spoke about Johnson and the Hall of Fame.

“Chad was a top-three receiver in the league. No question,” Houshmandzadeh said. “Nobody can argue that. He can’t be a finalist? There’s dudes getting in the Hall of Fame that can’t f*** with Chad.”

Johnson, who has six Pro Bowls and two All-Pros, was the 36th pick of the second round in the 2001 draft.

Johnson recently got engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Sharelle Rosado.

Former Boston Celtics Ordered to Pay $1.4M to Securities and Exchange Commission for Touting Crypto Securities

Former Boston Celtics Paul Pierce has agreed to pay the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) $1.4 million after he allegedly touted crypto securities.

According to CNBC, Pierce promoted EthereumMax (EMAX) tokens, but did not disclose that he was paid by EMAX to do so. CNBC also reported that Pierce was paid more than $244,000 in EMAX tokens. It is also alleged that Pierce mislead the public by sharing screenshots of his EMAX profits.

This case is yet another reminder to celebrities: The law requires you to disclose to the public from whom and how much you are getting paid to promote investment in securities, and you can’t lie to investors when you tout a security,” SEC Chairman Gary Gensler said in a statement.

Back in 2021, after Pierce was fired from ESPN for appearing in live social media video with strippers, Pierce wrote on Twitter: ″@espn I don’t need you,” Pierce wrote in a May 2021 tweet. “I got @ethereum_max I made more money with this crypto in the past month then [sic] I did with y’all in a year.”

In 2022, Kim Kardashian also settled with the SEC for $1.2 million after it was alleged that she also touted EMAX.

“This is not financial advice but sharing what my friends told me about the ethereum max token!” Kardishan’s wrote. She also added hashtags #ad, #emax, and #disrupthistory.

Federal lawsuits also named Floyd Mayweather Jr. and other EMAX boosters, which were dismissed in December. A judge said that the plaintiffs’ allegations didn’t meet the standards required of fraud cases.

CNBC also reported that the SEC has been aggressive in enforcing taunting crypto.

Earlier this week, the SEC proposed changes to federal custody regulation, which could greatly impact the way cryptocurrency exchanges are able to custody certain assets, CNBC reported.

Pierce has been barred from promoting any crypto asset securities for three years, according to CNBC

Issa Rae Addresses Faux Show ‘Confident’ While Promoting Her ‘Rap Sh*t’ Series

Issa Rae is finally responding to the “Insecure” fans who responded to the show’s end by making up a new spin-off series called “Confident.”

The actress and producer had remained mum about all the talk surrounding a faux series fans made up after her hit HBO series “Insecure” ended in 2021.

On Monday, Issa took to her Instagram Story to post a clip of “Rap Sh*t” star Kamillion partying with a drink in her hand.

“A scene from that ‘Confident’ series y’all keep posting…” she wrote over the video clip.

The Shade Room reposted the clip along with a photo of the promo flyer for the faux series “Confident” that Headgraphix created in January 2021.

“#IssaRae is tied of ya’ll, so she shared a scene from “Confident,”” TSR captioned the post. “If you recall, in January 2021 a flyer started making its rounds that Issa didn’t make, and apparently, it’s resurfaced.”

Fans filled the comments section with requests and demands for Issa to make the faux show a reality.

“Issa go ahead and do the lords work & make this a real series 😭,” one fan wrote.

“Ok Issa girl take the hint 😭,” added someone else.

Another fan asked the “Little” star to “please be obedient and do the lord’s work.”

Issa’s “Insecure” ran for five seasons on HBO before coming to a close in 2021. The Hoorae founder followed up with “Rap Sh*t” which premiered on HBO in 2022.

It stars KaMillion and Aida Osman as an upcoming rap group based out of Miami. Loosely based on the success story of the City Girls, Issa received the rap duo’s blessing ahead of filming.

“I came up with the show while we were doing season five [of Insecure], and it’s always been gestating in my mind,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in July 2022.

“I always wanted to do a show in the music world so I was like, ‘What’s a show that I want to watch right now that feels fun, of the moment, and that’s a reflection of the culture right now?’”

While the “February 30th” premiere date for “Confident” will never come, season two of “Rap Sh*t” was greenlit last September and will likely make a return over the summer, Variety reports.

Rihanna Holds Her Baby Bump During Dinner Celebrating 35th Birthday with A$AP Rocky

Rihanna’s maternity fashion is back in full effect as the Bajan superstar steps out in wake of announcing her and A$AP Rocky’s second pregnancy.

The “Diamonds” singer celebrated her 35th birthday on Monday by enjoying an Italian dinner with Rocky at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, California, People reports. Rihanna had nothing to hide now that the pregnancy has been announced and wore a form-fitting white dress that showed off her baby bump.

She paired the low-cut dress with a shiny black overcoat, a pair of silver strappy heels, and a white furry purse. Rih also sported an ankle bracelet with a series of the letter “R” dangling around.

Rihanna sweetly cradled her baby bump while photographers snapped photos of her and A$AP Rocky entering the Italian restaurant. The night out was the first time the couple has been spotted in wake of the pop star announcing her pregnancy while performing at the Super Bowl halftime show last Sunday.

The “Umbrella” singer and Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers, welcomed their son last May. They have released photos and a TikTok video of their baby boy, but have yet to reveal his name.

Insiders say Rihanna’s central focus is on raising her son and preparing for the new baby.

“The main focus right now is on her family,” a source said. “She loves spending time with her son.”

“She loves being a mom so this is where her mind is at the moment,” the insider continued. “She is the happiest she has ever been.”

It’s also been said that Rihanna doesn’t plan on stopping after welcoming baby number two.

According to the source, Rihanna “wants several kids and is happy that her son will have a sibling come summer.”

“She loves parenting with Rakim. They are great together,” the insider added.

Diamond White Becomes First Black Teen Superheroine in Marvel’s ‘Moon Girl’

Moon Girl is representing Black girl magic.

The Bold and the Beautiful actress Diamond White has become the first Black teen superheroine in her new role on the Disney+ series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

According to People, the 24-year-old made her debut as Moon Girl, also known as Lunella Lafayette, when the series released earlier this month.

“It’s really cool,” White said. “I think that you have to show representation to younger kids.”

Reportedly, the network described Moon Girl as one of the most brilliant characters in the Marvel universe. “With her superpower of pure intellect and the real-life power of STEM, she uses her smarts combined with determination and confidence to protect her beloved Lower East Side neighborhood from danger,” the network shared.

White’s mission for her role is to amplify the idea of girls embracing both beauty and brains.

“It’s cool to be smart. I wish I had a show like this growing up, because then maybe I would’ve been a little bit smarter,” White said. “It’s really an all inclusive show. It’s really beautiful.”

“It teaches you a lot about quantum physics. You learn about science and stuff, but not only does she do a lot of science-y things, she also is just a 13-year-old Black girl growing up,” she added.

White, a previous contestant on X Factor, said seeing a Black superheroine like her character would have made life a little easier. She recalled the perm episode that focused on the storyline of perms ruining Black girls’ hair, which is their crown.

“The ‘hair today, gone tomorrow.’ I would’ve loved to have seen a Black character getting her first perm, because that’s what I went through growing up. Maybe it would’ve deterred me from getting my first perm,” she said.

“Disney trusts me to make the right choices with her,” White said, adding that she makes sure to bring her authentic self to the Moon Girl character.

White’s character is based on the comic book Moon Girl. Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is streaming now on Disney+ and has already been renewed for season 2.

‘To My Favorite Cotton Picker’: California Elementary Student Receives Racist Card During Black History Month

A school district in California is in an uproar after an elementary school class drew highly racist cards for their Black classmates.

KTLA 5 reported a sixth grader at Pepper Tree Elementary School received cards with drawings that raised concerns.

One card read, “You’re my favorite monkey,” while another said, “To my favorite cotton picker.”

Maylana Douglas, mother of the student in question, said the cards are disturbing. “They said that they were going to give her a drawing that specifically said, ‘You’re my favorite slave,’” Douglas told the outlet.

“And they were going to show her as a slave hanging from a tree.”

Douglas said his child claims to have been offered massages and back rubs from a group of girls at school, as well. “It’s your month, you’re entitled to back rubs,” the girls told the Douglas’ daughter. “And apparently, someone told her, well, maybe only half the month because you’re only half Black.”

Douglas and her husband, Rome Douglas, have since pulled their child from the school due to ongoing harassment. With three children in total attending the school, they are shocked the Upland Unified School District hasn’t done much. The child’s grandparent, Earlie Douglas, posted the images on Facebook in a viral post, to grow awareness.

After the images were made public, The Daily Beast reported the district released an apologetic video featuring district board president, Truman Garnett, to discuss the values of the district.

“Recent racially insensitive, unacceptable incidents have taken place in our schools. We deeply regret the hurt that this behavior has caused our students, families, and our community,” Garnett said. “I want to make it perfectly clear that we have a strict zero-tolerance policy on any type of hate speech; harassment; discriminatory practices, behaviors; racial slurs; and any report of these actions will be investigated thoroughly and immediately.”

With the comments turned off, Lynn Carmen, district superintendent, said she was heartbroken over the incident. “We understand that learning is hindered if students don’t feel safe,” Carmen said. “We must teach students how their actions have the ability to deeply affect those around them.”

Even though Garnett said the district would take “disciplinary action without hesitation” in the video, according to KTLA, when asked if the student who created the racist images would be disciplined, the district claimed privacy laws don’t allow them to make that information public.

Black-owned businesses are dropping their creative magic at Disney.

According to the CurlCap’s Instagram, Sade made history “as the first black owned apparel company to have their own authorized Disney merchandise.”

“Those who may not have been reflected always in the products or the films and so on, it’s wonderful to have a mirror, have an example to showcase something you can be, something you maybe didn’t even dream of,” Michelle Stepney, a representative from Disney’s consumer products team said.

Stepney said working with brands like Sade’s, which was inspired by an experience with psoriasis causing Sade to start over in her hair journey, can be life-changing. Sade made a sample of her caps that were made with natural hair in mind.

Disney took notice of Sade’s satin-lined, backless CurlCaps, and picked up the product.

“When they reached out, it was like the magic of Disney was all over my life and … a full-circle moment,” Sade said. “This relationship, this collaboration, it’s been beautiful.”

Over 100,000 Disney-themed CurlCaps have been sold.

“Representation is what helps to empower people. This is what encourages children to be brave to step out and say, ‘I might be different, but this is acceptable. I’m still loved.’ Coming on with minimal experience and shining, getting the attention of Disney, has been absolutely magical,” Sade said.

Disney has also partnered with other Black-owned businesses that include sports fashion brand Actively Black, BLK & Bold coffee, and Young King Hair Care. Additionally, a re-designed line of Disney’s classic princess dolls launched in collaboration with CreativeSoul Photography.

Disney fans can expect more partnerships to produce new fan favorites, including merchandise set to release in May, for the new Little Mermaid live-action film, starring singer and actress Halle Bailey.
