Former NFL Player Victor Hampton Says Officer Unjustly Racially Profiled Him for ‘Looking Suspicious’

Former NFL cornerback Victor Hampton claims he was racially profiled and followed after a shopping trip at the Concord Mills mall.

Hampton, who now lives in Concord, North Carolina, was simply helping a friend put their purchases in a car when a cop walked towards them in the parking lot and arrested the athlete for “looking suspicious.”

“The first thing he yelled was ‘yo’ like very loud,” said Hampton, per WJZY. “There were people walking in the same vicinity as us so we didn’t think he was speaking to us, so initially we were kind of confused.”

Part of the interaction was recorded by Hampton in a video that has since gone viral, who can be heard saying, “We are not answering no more questions from you, bruh. We are in a public parking lot.”

He then asked the officer, “Why are you stopping me?”

To which the cop said, “Because you guys are in the area of a stolen car,” while walking in the fully packed parking lot.

“And how many people out here are in the area of a stolen car?” questioned Hampton.

During an interview with WCCB, Hampton shared, “It’s nerve wrecking man. Because I knew I was absolutely not doing anything wrong. And I didn’t avoid the scene. I walked by like any citizen normally would do.”

According to the officer, he was investigating a report of a stolen car.

“Once we were answering the questions and he wouldn’t stop, that’s when I felt like it was going further than what it should be going,” the 30-year-old said.

The video goes on to reveal an agitated Hampton as the officer begins threatening him with arrest.

“If you do not stop you are going to jail,” said the Concord officer.

“Take me then. Come on,” Hampton said.

“Alright, have a seat,” said the officer, before things got physical.

He arrested Hampton, but the charges were later dropped.

“I was embarrassed. I was humiliated. I was belittled. My rights were taken advantage of unlawfully,” shared the former cornerback.

Concord Police issued a statement that they were conducting an internal investigation and will release an official statement once done.

Hampton says he’s having nightmares about the incident and at the time could only think not to be put to the ground for fear of his life.

“I didn’t want to be on the ground with them because I knew, hey, we seen George Floyd and what happens on the ground right,” he said. “I’m not going to the ground. I got to a point where I said, ‘Listen because I don’t want to die today you can cuff me.’”

Obama Congratulates High School Grad Jacob Philadelphia, Boy Who Famously Touched His Hair in 2009 White House Image

Former President Barack Obama reconnected with Jacob Philadelphia to congratulate his high school graduation, the boy who was 5 years old at the time of his visit to the White House, and asked Obama, “Is your hair like mine?”

The iconic image was the result of the question, to which the former president recalls bending down and asking, “Well you want to check and see? Go ahead, touch it.”

Then Obama asked, “Well, what do you think?” to which 5-year-old Philadephia replied, “Yeah, that’s pretty much what I’ve got.”

Obama posted the heartwarming reconnection to his Instagram on Friday, staggered that 13 years had already passed since the moment was captured.

Son of then-National Security Council staffer Carlton Philadelphia, Jacob graduated from the International School of Uganda and is set to attend the University of Memphis to study political science.

“I think the White House visit clearly inspired you, I hope,” Obama said in the video. “Yes. It really has,” Jacob replied.

The image was immortalized by White House photographer Pete Souza, which he later named “Hair Like Mine,” and “for years, the photo hung in the halls of the West Wing,” says the former president’s post. Such a moment was commemorated to inspire other children who looked like him and emphasize representation.

“When I was younger, I just thought the president was just my dad’s boss. I didn’t know how powerful he was,” Jacob said. “I was a little shy and I kind of remember touching his hair and him towering over me. That was a pretty big highlight of my life.

“It is very wonderful to see representation in the government because if I get to see another Black man be at the top, be at that pinnacle, then I want to follow that lead,” he added.

In the video, Obama also reflected on his time in the presidency and how that image was one that reverberated his aspirations as commander in chief.

“I think this picture embodied one of the hopes that I’d had when I first started running for office,” Obama said.

“I remember telling Michelle and some of my staff, you know, I think that if I were to win, the day I was sworn into office, young people, particularly African American people, people of color, outsiders, folks who maybe didn’t always feel like they belonged, they’d look at themselves differently.”

He continued, “To see a person who looked like them in the Oval Office… It would speak to Black kids and Latino kids and gay kids and young girls — how they could see the world open up for them.”

The post ends with a congratulations to the class of 2022.

Jamie Foxx Slams ‘So-Called Christians’ And Lawmakers For Not Passing Legislation To Prevent Mass Shootings

Jamie Foxx Slams ‘So-Called Christians’ And Lawmakers For Not Passing Legislation To Prevent Mass Shootings

Jamie Foxx has always repped his home state; the actor-comedian hails from Terrell, Texas.

However, he publicly expressed his grief for the shooting victims, including 19 students and two teachers killed by a gunman at Robb Elementary on May 24 in Uvalde, Texas.

The Oscar winner is extremely vexed with the nation’s “so-called Christians” and lawmakers who staunchly remain stagnant in passing sensible gun laws that can prevent mass shootings, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Foxx took to his Instagram account and posted a collage of pictures of 16 children out of the 19 who died in the massacre, writing, “Little angels my heart goes out to ur families,” he started. “Never thought I would live in A society a ‘Christian Society’ where they would let little children die over and over again and still not change any laws.”

Foxx continued: “If the people in this country are leaders and so-called Christians… if they are going to heaven… I’LL PASS!!!!! #thedevilisbusy.”

The Texas school shooting is now considered the deadliest since the 2012 Sandy Hook devastation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Many notable figures from politics, entertainment, sports, and media have all poured out their frustration about the lack of protective measures to help shield communities against gun violence which the American people are demanding, but Congress continues to ignore.

Beto O’Rourke confronted Texas Governor Greg Abbott at a news conference, shouting at Abbott and his cohorts, ordering them to tackle the issue of gun violence instead of “doing nothing” and offering empty platitudes, Deadline reports

Uvalde native Matthew McConaughey also spoke out and wrote on Twitter, “This is an epidemic we can control, and whichever side of the aisle we may stand on, we all know we can do better. We must do better. Action must be taken so that no parent has to experience what the parents in Uvalde and the others before them have endured.”

“Once again, we have tragically proven that we are failing to be responsible for the rights our freedoms grant us,” he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“What small sacrifices can we individually take today, to preserve a healthier and safer nation, state and neighborhood tomorrow?’ We cannot exhale once again, make excuses, and accept these tragic realities as the status quo.”

Swizz Beatz Comes For Joe Budden For His Tweet About His Wife Alicia Keys: “Leave My Wife Out Of Everything But Greatness!”

Swizz Beatz Comes For Joe Budden For His Tweet About His Wife Alicia Keys: “Leave My Wife Out Of Everything But Greatness!”

This year is shaping up as a period where people feel comfortable accosting women verbally; however, their husbands are not standing idly by while random people disparage their significant others. Case in point, on May 26, rapper-turned-podcaster Joe Budden endorsed a tweet by Twitter user @heyjasmine, who remarked that an uncredited singer Jermaine Paul outshined Alicia Keys on her 2004 “Diary” track, according to XXL.

“Alicia keys really got cooked on Diary,” the Twitter user wrote.

Budden quickly joined the peanut gallery and added his two cents, “Lowkey lol,” he responded.

The Twitter convo quickly caught the attention of Keys’ husband, uber-producer and co-creator Verzuz Swizz Beatz. He immediately shut down the unwarranted criticism of his Grammy-winning wife and reminded Budden to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth, Hip Hop Dx reports.

“King Knock it all the way off!” Tweeted Swizz. “Let’s not do this! I never get into your zones! Leave my wife out of everything but greatness! Please ……..”

Not wanting any smoke from the “Pistol On My Side” record producer, Budden deleted his tweet.

Other Twitter users weighed on the topic, Rap-Up reports.

The hip-hop power couple has been married for 12 years and recently appeared on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast. The hosts asked the dynamic musical duo if they would consider doing a joint album together, according to HypeBeast.

“I don’t know, I mean, I feel like it would be…we have a real musical connection, actually for real. Like any time I’m doing anything, passing it to him, saying I’m working on this, I’m thinking about it and he’s giving me feedback when he’s working on stuff, he’s like, oh this is what I’m feeling. So we’re, we’re already kind of like collaborating for sure,” Keys said. “And so in that way, I guess we’ve done a lot of things already together. But if you mean like a record where Leahy’s rhyming and I’m singing type of vibe? Or like where we both produce it?”

Keys continued: “But we definitely do collaborate for sure. And to be honest, if I was to be like, you know what, let me let me pass you all the keys, and you tell me, like, what you would want to hear. I do think that would be very exciting, actually, if I was just like, you know, I’m good, you hold the keys, tell me what you would want to hear me do. I would be interested in how that would come out.”

NFL Now Requires Teams to Interview a Minority Candidate for Quarterback Coach Vacancies

Another change has been made in the NFL that is supposed to make the coaching staff more diverse going forward.

There has been a change to the Rooney Rule that is slated to give minority and female coaches opportunities not usually afforded to them in the league. At this year’s NFL Spring League Meeting, there has been a change when it comes to the hiring process of quarterback coaches.

Vacant quarterback coach positions will now have to follow the Rooney Rule. It is now a requirement that NFL teams have to conduct outside interviews with a minority/female candidate for vacant QB coach positions.

“Well, I think we’ve been pretty open that we feel where we need to work a little harder is on the offensive side of the ball because a lot of teams have stressed more [hiring] the offensive coach who can develop the quarterback and develop the offensive system,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said at Tuesday’s Spring League Meeting news conference, NBC Sports reports.

“Hopefully, we’ll be able to get more candidates to be in that position to get hired as offensive coordinator and then head coach.”

The league has been trying to find ways to become more diverse in the executive branch as well as on the field with head coaches.

Earlier this year, Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores filed a lawsuit against the National Football League and three football teams accusing them of discrimination.

According to NFL.com, Flores, who is Black, sued the NFL and three teams, the Miami Dolphins, the Denver Broncos, and the New York Giants, for discrimination based on his firing from Miami and pertaining to the interview process he went through with Denver and New York.

Flores claims he was only interviewed to satisfy the “Rooney Rule” which stipulates that an NFL team has to interview at least one Black person for an open head coach position.

The lawsuit also alleges that the NFL discriminated against Flores and other Black coaches for racial reasons, and he claims teams denied them positions as general managers, head coaches, offensive and defensive coordinators, and quarterbacks coaches.

She’s Married Now! Basketball Wives Star Shaunie O’Neal Ties the Knot, Weds Pastor Keion Henderson in Anguilla Ceremony

She’s Married Now! Basketball Wives Star Shaunie O’Neal Ties the Knot, Weds Pastor Keion Henderson in Anguilla Ceremony

PEOPLE magazine got the exclusive, behind-the-scenes wedding ceremony of Basketball Wives Shaunie O’Neal as she wed Pastor Keion Henderson.

According to the outlet the two got married in a tropical island ceremony on Saturday, PEOPLE can exclusively confirm.

The ceremony was held at the Aurora Anguilla Resort and Golf Club with some 200 guests in attendance. The loving couple enlisted gospel superstar Yolanda Adams to sing Shaunie in as she walked down on the golf course’s 10th hole.

Shaunie’s three sons she shares with basketball star Shaquille O’Neal had the honor of escorting her down the aisle.

“I just lost my dad in February,” O’Neal tells PEOPLE. “So, I really struggled with how I was going to get down the aisle. Losing my dad in the midst of planning this wedding was a lot, so my sons handed me off.”

This from PEOPLE:

Having her five children (with ex Shaquille O’Neal) there to support her was “everything” to the happy mom, who describes her family as “package deal” when it comes to relationships.

O’Neal wore a sparkling gown by Jean Louis Sabajai in partnership with fashion stylist Eric Archibald, paired with a dreamy veil also from the designer. She accessorized with David Yurman jewelry and shoes by Jimmy Choo. The glowing bride’s updo was perfected by Diamond Johnson, with her makeup look created by Alaina Saulsberry.

Henderson wore a cream tux by Dolce and Gabbana, while the groomsmen were clad in Atelier Houston.

Bishop TD Jakes officiated the nuptials, which were planned by The Happy Couple with The Britto Agency/Global Brand Strategist and captured by photographer Manolo Doreste and videographer Michael Tamzil. The couple exchanged wedding bands from Jason of Beverly Hills.

The location was an easy choice for the newlyweds, who “immediately fell in love with it” on a past trip.

“I think after that first visit, we knew this was the place we wanted to get married,” O’Neal, 47, tells PEOPLE. For Henderson, 41, Anguilla’s rich history and welcoming residents made them “proud to connect to” the island and “start their journey” there.

Guests spent the evening dancing to music from the Isley Brothers and Jukebox in a custom tent at the resort’s clubhouse and D Richards Restaurant, before Spinderella took over DJ duties in the late-night hours for the afterparty.

Thoughtful details were incorporated throughout the ceremony and reception, including an Eleven/11 (a meaningful symbol to the newlyweds) toast with McBride Sisters Brut Prosecco.

While extravagant, and certainly larger than they had initially anticipated — Shaunie tells PEOPLE that their original number of guests was only 50 — the evening was special and intimate. “We wanted our guests to have a weekend of enjoyment,” O’Neal says. “We just like to have fun and love on each other and we wanted to do that with our friends and family.”

The couple dated for two years before announcing their engagement last November. For both O’Neal and Henderson, the connection was undeniable from their first date, a six-hour rendezvous inside a hotel lobby.

“I was in California getting ready to preach. … She finally agreed to meet me,” Henderson tells PEOPLE. O’Neal had been out to dinner with a friend earlier that evening and told her future husband she’d go out with him “if she had time after eating.”

So for the next six hours, they connected over family and faith. “But then I walk her to her car, give her a sideways hug, and I let her get in the car and drive off,” the groom says.

“He didn’t even try to kiss me!” his bride interjects.

Henderson says she gave him “complete pandemonium” for weeks after he fumbled that first smooch. He made up for it at the perfect time, though: “I showed her the kiss I would have given her the day I met her,” Henderson tells PEOPLE of their first kiss as husband and wife on Saturday.

Henderson fit right in with her family long before the “I dos,” his bride says. “He’s been amazing to just step into our lives and fill a void that’s been there for a minute in a space of just being here with me, cause I haven’t had somebody,” she says. “They love him which makes me love him even more.”

Black Girl Magic Conference Returns To Madison College To Connect Black Female Leaders

Black Girl Magic Conference Returns To Madison College To Connect Black Female Leaders

The 2022 Black Girl Magic Conference took place at Madison College Thursday to inspire, uplift, and fellowship with future Black female leaders.

Madison365 reports the fifth annual day-long retreat brought 600 fourth through eighth-grade Black girls from the Madison, Oregon, and Middleton districts together. The inaugural event in 2018 had just 80 Black girls participate, showing how successful the event has become.

“It’s an amazing experience. The energy of the girls is just something that is unmatched. It feels like a marathon over the day, but with positive, great energy all day long,” Rosa Thompson, the founder of the Black Girl Magic Conference, said according to NBC 15.

The event allows young Black girls to meet and connect with local Black female leaders to see successful women who look like them. The morning began with a fitness class to energize everyone for the day followed by breakout sessions led by Black female entrepreneurs, city, and community leaders.

“One of my favorite things is when the girls get off the bus, and they come in, and they’re just so excited, and they’re really happy to be there,”  Thompson, who also serves as executive director of Black Girl Magic Educational Services Inc told Madison365. “And then they’re seeing girls from other schools that they know and it’s just like a great feeling to see just so many of our girls so excited to be in the building. So we’re really looking forward to that.”

The conference featured a litany of local Black professional women who shared their experiences and hosted breakout sessions, including Capital Times Angelica Euseary, Dr. Christina Outlay, Kyra Johnson, founder and executive director of KLJ Movement Inc., and keynote speaker Kheris Rogers, an entrepreneur, fashion designer and CEO of the brand, Flexin’ In My Complexion.

“I love seeing the girls, especially the girls that I’ve taught, and seeing them grow up or girls from year to year.,” Thompson told Madison365. “And now that we’ve been doing year-round programming, it’s so great to see them in their element at school because we usually you know, they just come to us. So seeing them come together and interact with each other … it’s just really fun to watch.”
