Wendy Williams’ Medical Exam Re-Diagnoses Her With Dementia And Upholds Guardianship

Wendy Williams' guardianship will continue after she was re-diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and aphasia.

A recent medical examination has re-diagnosed Wendy Williams with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and aphasia, resulting in the continuation of her court-ordered guardianship.

Legal documents reveal the former daytime talk show host recently underwent extensive medical and neuropsychological testing, along with brain imaging scans, People reported. Following these evaluations, doctors confirmed a diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and aphasia, which was first identified in 2023.

As for her guardianship, an attorney for Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, is requesting a three-month extension that would end on Nov. 5. The attorney cites ongoing legal disputes involving Williams’ family and ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, that aim to challenge the guardianship and Morrissey’s role.

“Complications have arisen due to various parties, including counsel for certain members of [Williams’] family, [Williams’] ex-husband, and others, who have indicated their intention to challenge both the Guardianship itself as well as Ms. Morrissey’s status as Guardian.”

News of the recent medical exam comes weeks after Williams announced her plans for legal action against her “misdiagnosis.” Back in March, Williams was removed from her assisted living facility to undergo mental competency tests that the former radio personality claimed she passed “with flying colors.”

“She had those tests, she’s been deemed she is not incapacitated,” her caretaker, Ginalia Monterrosa, said at the time. “I think it’s great news, and it’s public, and everybody knows factually that Wendy’s not incapacitated.”

Since 2022, Williams has been under a court-appointed guardianship managing her finances and whereabouts. A Lifetime documentary, currently at the center of a legal dispute with Morrissey, shed light on her health struggles and her views on the conservatorship.

Shortly after the documentary aired, her diagnoses of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and aphasia were made public. While Morrissey has claimed Williams is “cognitively impaired, permanently disabled, and legally incapacitated,” Williams has publicly disputed those claims.

In June, Williams’ ex-husband filed a lawsuit against those overseeing her guardianship, alleging that the former talk show host “has been the victim of unrestrained abuse, maltreatment, and fiscal malfeasance” during the three years since it was put in place. Hunter claims the guardianship was established through “a secret proceeding” that denied Williams the chance to secure “adequate legal representation.” The case remains ongoing.

Rockland County Police Officer Placed On Leave After Video Shows Him Choking 17-Year-Old

'The matter is currently under investigation,' according to the town supervisor

After being seen in a video allegedly choking a 17-year-old, a Rockland County police officer has been officially placed on leave.

According to CBS News, the unidentified police officer, who is a sergeant with the Haverstraw Police Department, was caught on surveillance footage grabbing the teenager by the neck in front of a bodega in Downtown Haverstraw. He pushed the 17-year-old against the window of the bodega. The incident took place at approximately 10 p.m. Aug. 10, after the conclusion of the United Latin Festival and Parade.

Witnesses stated that police officers were on the scene trying to get people to leave the area and go home. The sergeant allegedly got violent with the teen after a verbal exchange between the two. Resident Jean Poulard stated that the officer seemed angry because the victim responded to him in a manner he disliked. The 17-year-old told him that the police officer wasn’t his father.

Poulard said, “The kid told him straight up, ‘You’re not my father,’ and the cop lost it and basically did what he did.”

Town Supervisor Howard T. Phillips confirmed to the media outlet that the police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.

“The actions he took were completely inappropriate,” Phillips said.

News 12 Westchester spoke to the teen who was involved in the situation, Andres Garcia, who was shocked at the action taken by the officer.

“It was a blur. I didn’t expect him to strangle me like that,” Garcia told the media outlet about the incident.

Garcia was arrested and given an appearance ticket for disorderly conduct.

News 12 Westchester obtained a statement from Phillips.

“There were numerous violations that evening, ranging from disorderly conduct to local ordinance violations. This occurred after the Latin Festival ended, which sent a large population into the downtown area of the Village of Haverstraw. The matter is currently under investigation. The Chief of Police, with the Town Attorney, will be questioning all the officers and any individuals in the public involved in the incident.”

Illinois Gov. Signs Police Reform Bill Named After Sonya Massey

Illinois has enacted a police reform bill in honor of police shooting victim Sonya Massey.

Just over a year after police fatally shot Sonya Massey in her home, Illinois has introduced a police reform bill named in her memory.

On August 12, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker signed the Sonya Massey Bill into law, ABC 7 Chicago reported. Officially known as Senate Bill 1953, the legislation enforces stricter hiring standards for law enforcement, requiring departments to thoroughly review a candidate’s history, including past disciplinary actions and misconduct, before hiring them.

“When Sonya Massey feared for her safety, she did what anyone would do-she called law enforcement for help,” Pritzker said. “Communities should be able to trust that when they call the police to their home, the responding officer will be well-trained and without a history of bias or misconduct.”

“Today, I sign Sonya Massey’s Bill to help prevent these tragedies, to better equip law enforcement to keep our communities safe, and to continue working to build a justice system that protects all of our citizens,” he added.

State Senator Doris Turner introduced the bill in January after the community called for a more rigorous pre-hiring process for law enforcement. Those demands grew louder with the formation of the Massey Commission, created to address public concerns. The bill gained bipartisan support, with endorsements from law enforcement advocacy groups and civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, who celebrated its signing into law in a post on X.

“Stricter hiring rules for Illinois officers are a step toward protecting citizens and preventing more families from joining the fraternity of grief, no one should ever be part of. Thank you, Gov. Pritzker,” Crump tweeted.

Sonya Massey, 36, was unarmed and holding a pot of hot water when she was fatally shot on July 6, 2024, by former Sangamon County Deputy Sheriff Sean Grayson. Grayson had responded to Massey’s 911 call about a possible intruder and fired three shots after she picked up the pot from her stove.

The shooting was deemed unjustified, leading to Grayson’s murder charge and a trial set to begin in October. Officials later revealed that Grayson had worked in six different law enforcement jobs over four years and had two DUIs on his record before becoming a deputy. The Sangamon County sheriff who hired him ultimately resigned amid mounting pressure from the scandal.

Jotaka Eaddy

Elevating Your Excellence: Jotaka Eaddy Is The Strategist Behind The Movement

The founder and CEO of Full Circle Strategies has led a decades-long campaign for change

Jotaka Eaddy, the founder and CEO of the social impact consulting firm Full Circle Strategies, LLC, is a veteran strategist whose work has long advanced transformative change from the halls of Washington to the boardrooms of Silicon Valley.

Described by Forbes Magazine as the “Olivia Pope of Silicon Valley,” Eaddy has built a career at the nexus of policy, technology, and movement building. Her recent efforts, particularly her work with the #WinWithBlackWomen movement, have cemented her role as a key figure in modern American politics and advocacy.

Called Time Magazine’s 2025 Closer, the #WinWithBlackWomen movement, which Eaddy founded in 2020, has become a robust, intersectional network of Black women leaders spanning business, sports, politics, and entertainment. The group gained national prominence during the 2020 election for its work to counter racist and sexist rhetoric directed at Black women on the presidential ticket.

The network has been credited with having a significant impact on the historic election that resulted in the United States’ first Black woman Vice President.

That influence was on full display in the 2024 presidential race. When Vice President Kamala Harris became the presumptive nominee, Eaddy’s weekly online gatherings for Black women leaders, which typically drew several hundred participants, surged to more than 90,000 attendees. The digital mobilization led to a historic fundraising call that raised $1.6 million in just 100 minutes for Harris’s campaign.

It was during this period that the Vice President herself acknowledged Eaddy’s foundational role, turning to her at a campaign event hosted by Oprah Winfrey and saying, “Jotaka started it.”

The tech maven’s movement’s impact extends beyond elections; the group has also advocated for the confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court and championed the release of WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner from captivity in Russia.

Eaddy’s career is marked by a consistent drive to bridge institutional divides and advocate for marginalized communities. As one of the few Black women to have served in the C-suite of a Silicon Valley company, she is a passionate advocate for increased diversity and social impact metrics in the tech sector. She has worked with companies to measure the social benefits of their products and close racial gaps in access to online lending and startup funding.

In 2018, a key part of this work was her role as VP of Policy, Strategic Engagement, and Impact at LendUp, a mission-driven FinTech company. At a time when the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) was under scrutiny with new leadership, Eaddy served as a crucial liaison, engaging with federal agencies like the CFPB and the Federal Reserve.

“The CFPB plays a really important role in the supervision and regulation of [the] operations of a FinTech company. All consumer lending, and pretty much any FinTech that focuses on the consumer, will fall under the direct supervision of the CFPB and other regulators.”

Her work also involved forging relationships with national consumer advocate organizations and union leaders to promote financial health.

Before her work in technology, Eaddy served as senior director for Voting Rights at the NAACP from 2009 to 2014. In this capacity, she spearheaded national strategies to defend and expand voting rights, which included efforts that led to changes to the Delaware State Constitution and secured voting rights for more than 300,000 citizens with felony convictions in Virginia via an executive order.

Her commitment to justice began even earlier, notably with her work on the campaign against the juvenile death penalty. Eaddy directed the national lobby and international advocacy efforts that contributed to the landmark 2005 Supreme Court decision in Roper v. Simmons, which abolished the practice in the United States. This effort was supported by an amicus brief signed by more than 50 nations and helped end a practice that disproportionately affected Black and Latino youth.

A fiercely proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., her activism has also included lobbying within various international forums such as the United Nations Human Rights Council and the African Union.

The South Carolina native’s trailblazing spirit was evident from her college days. As a student at the University of South Carolina, she became the first Black woman elected student-body president in the university’s 213-year history. During her tenure, she authored legislation that played a crucial role in the successful campaign to remove the Confederate flag from the South Carolina State House Dome.

In February, the NAACP bestowed the newly renamed Mildred Bond Roxborough Social Justice Impact Award on Eaddy, with the organization’s vice chair, Karen Boykin-Towns, stating that her “impact exemplifies the enduring power of Black women leading with strength, vision, and purpose.”

The former child actress-turned-veterinarian was 60 years old

The Black sitcom world paused to acknowledge the death of Dr. Danielle Spencer (Dee), 60, of the classic television series What’s Happening!!, after her former co-star on the show, Heyward Nelson, told the world of her passing.

Spencer portrayed the young daughter, Dee, of the character, Mabel Thomas (Mabel King), and the sister of Roger (Raj) Thomas (Ernest Lee Thomas). The series was based on the antics of three teenagers, Raj, Dwayne, and Rerun (Fred Berry), living in the inner city. It was based loosely on the classic movie, Cooley High, which came out in 1975. The show aired on ABC for three seasons from 1976 to 1979.

After the original series went off the air in 1979, it returned with a sequel, What’s Happening Now!!, which featured Spencer in a recurring role. That series also lasted three seasons from 1985 until it ended in 1988.

According to People, after leaving Hollywood, she became a veterinarian after attending the University of California, Davis, and then earning a doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1993 from Tuskegee University Veterinary School in Alabama.

ABC News reported in 2014 that Spencer was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“With everything that I’ve been through with the spinal cord injury, I said I know God is not going to give me another affliction,” she said (She was involved in a car accident in 1997 in Malibu, Calif., that took the life of her stepfather, Tim Pelt). “So I was completely shocked when the doctors told me.”

15 Nurses Fired At Children’s Hospital After Black Tween Commits Suicide

The nurses were reportedly fired over alleged HIPAA violations regarding the now-deceased girl.

Fifteen nurses at a children’s hospital in Washington were fired after a 12-year-old Black girl committed suicide during their care.

The tween girl was supposed to have 24-hour supervision at the Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane. However, a lawsuit filed by her mother reveals that the young girl snuck away to take her own life.

According to KWTX, Sarah Niyimbona reportedly jumped from a parking garage to her untimely death April 13. The young girl was admitted to the children’s hospital due to her multiple suicide attempts before, and had been there since late 2024.

The lawsuit against Providence Health & Services, the corporation that oversees Sacred Heart, alleges that the hospital removed the healthcare professional and video monitor assigned to monitor Sarah. The filing also claims this negligent care allowed Sarah to walk around the floor to find the fourth-floor garage.

The lawsuit only questions one nurse directly involved in watching over the young girl at the children’s hospital. However, the other nurses were fired for improperly accessing Sarah’s medical records following the tragic incident. Providence stated that the nurses violated HIPAA regulations, alleging that they looked into the records for no medical purpose.

“Providence takes violations of our code of conduct and federal privacy laws that govern private health information very seriously. We review employee conduct and take appropriate action, including termination of employment, where warranted. Patient privacy is one of our top priorities,” Providence wrote in the statement obtained by the Spokesman-Review.

However, the nurses have since filed a grievance through their union in response to their terminations. They claim that accessing the files did not violate HIPAA, as they did so to respond to the crisis correctly.

“In less than two months, Providence Sacred Heart fired 15 nurses over allegations of HIPAA violations following the suicide of a 12-year-old patient at the hospital. Another one was disciplined. The union was contacted by these nurses and has filed grievances over the terminations and disciplinary action, arguing that any information accessed pertained directly to the nurses’ duties responding to this crisis,” said WSNA director David Keepnews in a statement.

The union asserts that the nurses were brought in to assist in the medical emergency. They reportedly received information for context on the girl’s condition.

“We reject Providence Sacred Heart’s claims that privacy was violated by nurses who were doing their jobs to assist in efforts to save the life of a 12-year-old girl in the hospital’s care,” added Keepnews.

Furthermore, they claim the terminations stemmed from their speaking with media outlets over Sarah’s high-profile case. Alongside the lawsuit, the State Department of Health has also launched an investigation into the matter.

Sarah’s family had launched a GoFundMe to cover medical and lawyer expenses. In the description, they noted how the “tragic” occurrence happened at the children’s hospital that “failed” to keep her safe.

“It’s tragic that her potential was cut short due to a lack of care,” detailed the crowdfunding. “An act of negligence led to her passing and were left with so many questions… It’s heartbreaking that the one place that was supposed to keep her safe failed to do so.”

Republicans Quietly Roll Back Obamacare – Here’s What Enrollees Should Know

Now that Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” has passed, there are rule changes that will likely roll back the progress among the uninsured.

Millions of Americans enrolled in Obamacare will likely see a difference when re-enrollment becomes available again. While Republicans are not as loud about their efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, it doesn’t mean Americans will not notice significant changes.

Now that Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” has passed, there are rule changes that will likely roll back the progress among the uninsured.

As CNN reported, the new rules will make it harder to enroll and renew coverage under the Affordable Care Act because verification requirements have increased, out-of-pocket costs for enrolled individuals could also increase, and legal immigrants who qualified for federal subsidies are now banned. These rules alone could impact close to 2 million people who could lose Obamacare under the new rules and provisions outlined in Trump’s bill package. Another provision that will shrink coverage is requiring low-income adults to work, volunteer, or engage in other activities for at least 80 hours a month.

The losses are expected to be felt the most in at least seven GOP-led states, including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Texas.

What’s driving some anxiety is that the enhanced federal premium subsidies that former President Joe Biden and congressional Democrats approved back in 2021 are expected to end this year. The Congressional Budget Office forecasts that more than 2 million people will be uninsured by 2034, with the Affordable Care Act provisions in the law.

“It’s a radical weakening of what the marketplaces will be able to deliver in the next few years,” Jennifer Sullivan, director of health coverage access at the left-leaning Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, told CNN.

What People Should Know About Obamacare Enrollment

The open enrollment period on the federal healthcare.gov has been shortened to November 1 through Dec. 15, and also requires states to end open enrollment on the exchanges by Dec. 31.

The technical changes mean that the annual costs for coverage will go up mainly because there is a reduction in premium subsidies. Insurance companies can raise out-of-pocket costs when people receive care.

According to KFF, the latest data from 2023 indicates that approximately 1.7 million Black Americans were enrolled in health insurance plans through the Affordable Care Act Marketplace (HealthCare.gov). This represents a significant increase in enrollment for this population, with a 95% rise in Marketplace enrollment among Black Americans from 2020 to 2023.

Black people, along with other racial and ethnic minorities, would likely be disproportionately affected by the rollbacks of Obamacare.

Obama Portrait Hidden In White House Stairwell, Probably Because Trump Hates Black Excellence

Per tradition, the presidential portrait is supposed to hang in the grand foyer.

Trump has removed Barack Obama’s presidential portrait from the grand foyer of the White house, instead placing in it a hidden stairwell. According to CNN, the portrait swaps and locations were not only directly approved by Trump, but note a pattern of him slighting any politician who challenges his authority and presidential acumen.

The move is not only considered disrespectful by many in Washington, but an outright break from tradition. Trump’s presidency never sticks to protocol, with the removal of the portrait to an off-limits area of the White house becoming yet another instance. A White House official confirmed to People Aug. 11 about the painting’s location change.

White House tradition dictates that the two most recent presidential portraits hang in the Grand Foyer. This custom ensures visitors and guests get to witness the paintings upon entry. Currently, the latest portraits completed belong to Former Presidents Obama and George W. Bush.

According to the news outlet, this is not the first time Obama’s portrait had been snubbed. In April, Trump replaced the Obama portrait’s prominent location with an image of himself from his July 2024 assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.

Obama’s portrait was moved to other side of the Grand Foyer, taking over the area where George W. Bush’s own portrait was displayed. As for his predecessor, that portrait then hung beside his own father and former president, George H.W. Bush, in a different part of the White House.

However, a recent switch has taken the Obama portrait essentially out of view for all. White House staffers moved the item to the top corner of the Grand staircase, which leads to the president’s private living area. At this partially obstructed viewpoint, the portrait remains off-limits to visitors.

The Obama portrait is not the only presidential painting tucked away. Next to his hangs Dwight D. Eisenhower’s portrait, with both Bushes hanging below.

Tensions between Obama and Trump have also heightened since Trump’s second term, with the president accusing Obama and his officials of manufacturing intelligence on the 2016 Russian election interference scandal.

Trump’s attorney general, Pamela Bondi, has already asked prosecutors to begin a grand jury probe into the accusations. Trump’s Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, has also made a public call for Obama’s prosecution.

Woman Loses Savings In Facebook Marketplace Car Sale Scam

A woman who lost money buying a faulty car on Facebook is raising awareness on the growing number of marketplae scams.

A woman who lost her entire savings on a faulty car bought through Facebook Marketplace is warning others about the rising number of scams on the platform.

Tameria Mizell of Port Charlotte, Florida, spent months searching for a car before finding a 2015 Infiniti QX60 listed for $9,000 on Facebook Marketplace, Fox 4 Now reported. After seeing it in person and thinking it looked “great,” she negotiated the price down to $8,500 and bought it. However, within 24 hours of taking ownership, Mizell discovered multiple problems with the vehicle.

“It doesn’t work hardly at all, all the lights come up on the dash, if I go to push the gas pedal to drive around someone, there’s no power to the car,” Mizell said.

Some of the car’s problems include a gas pedal that wouldn’t power the vehicle, and water leaking inside whenever it rained. When asked if she felt safe driving it, Mizell replied, “No.” It wasn’t until she contacted the Infiniti dealership in Sarasota to check the car’s history that she discovered the full extent of its issues and realized the previous owner had been aware of them.

“I spoke with a gentleman on the phone, and he told me the previous owners had brought the vehicle there, and the dealership said the vehicle needed work done to it before it was going to be sold, and the previous owners neglected the work,” Mizell said.

Records show the car was taken to the dealership twice in February, about a month before the sale. On one visit, the owner reported dissatisfaction with repairs made at another garage following an accident. When Mizell asked the owner for a refund, he refused.

“He said the vehicle was bought as is and there is no refund,” Mizell said.

Mizell is in a tough situation, having spent all her money on the car with no funds left for the necessary repairs to make it drivable. She’s sharing her story to warn others about the increasing scams on Facebook Marketplace.

“I took a bad slip and fall 2 years ago, and I acquired a little bit of money, and that’s the only bit of money I had…$8,500,” Mizell said.

A 2024 study by cybersecurity firm F-Secure found that 62% of U.S. Facebook users have encountered scams on Facebook Marketplace, with scams on the platform rising nearly 200% in just one year.
