Sherri Shepherd Dishes Scandalous Details Of Barbara Walters’ Affair With Richard Pryor

If you ask “The View”‘s ex-co-host Sherri Shepherd, Barbara Walters and Richard Pryor had a thing going on.

As TMZ reported, Shepherd recounted being told by the late comedian Paul Mooney that he walked in on the pair having a moment together. The daytime talk show host revealed that she’d asked Joy Behar, another host on “The View,” to keep the information between them, but the pair ended up going directly to Walters and asking her about her fling with Pryor.

Shepherd, who started her own daytime talk show, “Sherri,” in 2022, had Behar on a guest on Oct. 11, and the two went down memory lane. Shepherd said, “I came back, and I was like, ‘Joy, guess what!’ When you talk like that, you know it’s ‘don’t tell nobody.’ I came, and I told you, and I said, ‘[Comedian] Paul Mooney said he caught Barbara with Richard Pryor. He walked in on them.’ And then I was like, ‘Don’t tell nobody.'”

The only affair Walters admitted to in her memoir, Audition: A Memoir, was with Sen. Edward Brooke of Massachusetts in the 1970s. However, the two women noticed how much Walters seemed to enjoy interacting with Colin Powell when he was a guest on “The View.”

Behar leveled with Shepherd, eventually telling her about the late Walters’ taste in men. “Between you and me, Barbara liked a brother. She was going out with a Black senator — is this gonna be on television?” Behar quipped, to which Shepherd replied, “You used to always say Barbara loved a chocolate man.” The two were on “The View” together from 2007-2014, with the 81-year-old Behar starting her stint back in 1997.

About Walters’ admiration of Colin Powell, Shepherd remarked, “She loved Colin Powell. Colin Powell was her crush. Every time Colin Powell came on, Barbara was all the way over here, all the way over here.” Behar chimed in, “It’s true, it’s true, she loved a brother.”

Shepherd replied, “You know what,” before having a fit of laughter and thanking Behar for being the inspiration behind Shepherd’s lounge setup on her show before stating her admiration that Joy left “The View” and then returned once the showrunners begged her to come back.

“The View” recently made news as one of the daytime talk shows returning during the strike negotiations. Talk shows were under a different contract than film and other television work, so SAG-AFTRA members were permitted and encouraged to work on those productions.

Three weeks ago, Shepherd had to halt her show, according to Variety, because she had contracted COVID-19.

The show released a statement: “Unfortunately, Sherri has tested positive for COVID. The show will return with original episodes as soon as possible. For the remainder of this week, encore episodes from the beginning of the premiere week will air. The health of our host and entire staff is of the utmost importance.”

Shepherd herself said, “I am absolutely heartbroken that I cannot return to host my show this week.”

“As soon as I get the all-clear from my doctor, I look forward to returning strong to deliver the fun, laughter, and a real good time.”

Oklahoma Man Exonerated After Serving 35 Years, DNA Kit Proved His Innocence

Oklahoma Man Exonerated After Serving 35 Years, DNA Kit Proved His Innocence

On Oct. 10, Pontotoc County District Judge Steven Kessinger exonerated 61-year-old Perry Lott, who spent 35 years in prison, after DNA testing proved his innocence, Yahoo! News reported.

“I have never lost hope that this day would come,” Lott said. “I had faith that the truth would prevail, even after 35 long years. I can finally shut this door and move on with my life.”

Lott, who was arrested in 1987, was released in 2018 after the Innocence Project worked to reopen his case. After ordering a post-conviction DNA test from the rape kit, the Oklahoma man was freed; however, District Attorney Paul Smith denied Lott’s request to vacate his conviction. In January 2023, a new district attorney was appointed, and the Innocence Project tried their luck with an appeal.

The newly elected DA, Erik Johnson, agreed that Lott’s conviction should be vacated, allowing him to seek up to $175,000 in compensation from Oklahoma, according to the state’s laws.

“Five years ago, all evidence pointed to his innocence, but he was denied justice,” Innocence Project Senior Staff Attorney Adnan Sultan said. “We are grateful to District Attorney Erik Johnson for his commitment to righting this wrong.”

For Lott, the years cannot be replaced, but his new lease on life has given him a restored sense of hope for himself and others.

“I feel like I’m reborn. I feel like everything is new, especially my opportunities,” he said. “No more walls. That’s a wonderful feeling. And I think the entire state is catching on to removing all those walls and barriers that stop people from being people.”

Lott’s conviction is not the only one that Pontotoc County has had to make amends for. In 1985, Karl Allen Fontenot and Tommy Ward were sentenced to death for the kidnapping and murder of Donna Denice Haraway, a newly married college student and store clerk. In 2020, Fontenot’s conviction was overturned due to evidence of his alibi as well as other potential suspects the judge found to be “solid proof” of his “probable innocence.” A federal appeals court agreed with the judge. Fontenot has remained free since 2019.

‘At First I Really Didn’t Like Him!’: Couple In Their 90s Celebrates 70 Years Of Marriage With Vow Renewal

This couple says they will stay together until God calls them home.

Over the weekend, Rev. Oliver Pitts, Sr., and his wife, Violet Jarrell Pitts, celebrated 70 years of marriage with a vow renewal ceremony. According to 11 Alive, the ceremony took place Oct. 7 at God’s Way Church Ministries in Macon, Georgia. The Pitts are the Bellevue community’s oldest living members.

WGXA News reported that the lovebirds, both in their early 90s, dated for four years before they tied the knot back in 1953. While they were introduced to each other through mutual friends and family, the Pitts’ seven-decade marriage isn’t a love-at-first-sight story.

“At first, I really didn’t like him! But I’ve come to love him!” Violet told WGXA. During their relationship, the housewife said she left Oliver at one point and returned to her mother’s house.

“He came back and got me,” she said.

“I said, ‘Oh no, I got to go get my wife!’” shared Oliver, who handled all of the duties outside the house.

Violet shared her keys to a successful marriage.

“You gonna get mad sometimes, but let it go,” she said. “You may not speak in a few days, but still stay there! Stay right there.”

The Pitts told the outlet that God kept them together throughout the years.

“I thank the Lord for letting us live this long and letting us be married,” the Pitts said.

Adding to the celebration, social media users congratulated the Pitts under a Facebook post uploaded by Colorado journalist Wanya Reese.

“Congratulations happy Anniversary a beautiful love story,” one user wrote.

Another user commended the couple and wrote, “Congratulations to your great accomplishments! May God continue to bless your marriage!”

The generations have expanded since the Pitts had their five children. The husband and wife are the grandparents of 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, according to 11 Alive.

Rich Paul Discusses Challenges As A Black Sports Agent While Promoting New Memoir

Fresh off his “60 Minutes” profile, NBA superagent Rich Paul made an appearance on Sirius XM’s “The Clay Cane Show” on Oct. 11 to take a deep dive into the way he is perceived compared to white power brokers in sports and business.

Paul is a trailblazer who made his own way in creating $4 billion for his clients at Klutch Sports Group, whose roster is a veritable who’s-who across the American sports landscape.

When Cane pointedly asked Paul about white American athletes in his portfolio, Paul suggested there is a difference between the way white European basketball players look at him versus the way white American players view him. Paul went on to confirm that there are no white American basketball players who he or his agency represents because of the way they seem to perceive him.

“That’s accurate, yeah. Now that’s not necessarily, you know, when we think about that, we’re not, it’s not international players because international players actually have a different outlook on it. And I represent an international player, Jusuf Nurkic. He’s from Bosnia, so he has a different outlook on it,” explains Paul. “But if you grew up in, you know, Indiana or Georgia or, you know, or Oklahoma, or even Ohio for that matter. Yeah, no.”

Paul said he thinks the difference is that white American basketball players don’t seem to trust Black sports agents. He clarified that he has white American athletes in his portfolio, but they are not basketball players.

The agent is on a media blitz of sorts to promote his new memoir, Lucky Me, which chronicles his rise from street hustler and drug dealer to right-hand man of LeBron James, whom he met during a chance encounter at an airport.

Paul also appeared on “Good Morning America” on Oct. 10, and while discussing the vulnerability required to share that his mother was a drug addict, he addressed the stigma that sometimes surrounds Black people and therapy.

“So as I got into writing the book I started to feel better; I started to kind of share some of those moments and release that trauma that was built inside. You know, growing up how we grew up, we didn’t understand or even know what it was like to have a therapist and things like that, and it was really nobody to be vulnerable with,” he says.

During his “60 Minutes” profile, Paul alluded to a negative connotation when he is referred to as a “hustler,” versus someone like Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos or Nike chairman emeritus Phil Knight.

“But Jeff Bezos is a hustler, think he’s not? Phil Knight was the ultimate hustler. The difference is, they could go with their plan and their business idea, and get someone to believe in them. It didn’t matter what idea I had, there’s no pathway to get there,” Paul said.

Ben Crump Joins Fight To Get Voter Fraud Charges Dropped Against Black Florida Woman

Ben Crump Joins Fight To Get Voter Fraud Charges Dropped Against Black Florida Woman

Civil rights lawyer Ben Crump is joining the defense team of Marsha Ervin, the Black woman charged with voter fraud in Tallahassee, Florida, CNN reported.

Ervin, 69, was arrested on Sept. 29 in Tallahassee at 3 a.m. after being accused of voting while still on probation, in the 2020 general and 2022 primary elections, after being released from prison in 2018 for a felony conviction. In 2022, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a new law creating a police force solely to investigate election crimes and increase penalties for state election law violations.

Ervin’s legal team pointed out the confusion in the legislation that explained when residents with former felony convictions can actually vote. During a press conference on Oct. 10, Ben Crump described the tactic as “voter intimidation” and said the law will have a “chilling effect” on other voters.

“There is no other evidence that she had the intent to commit fraud,” Ervin’s attorney, Mutaqee Akbar, said.

“To a layman, completion of a sentence means when you are released from custody. She had no idea that she needed to complete her probation as well in order to vote.”

According to an arrest affidavit, the Tallahassee native finalized her voter registration application in September 2020 and received a voter information card in October 2020, along with a vote-by-mail ballot for the 2022 primary election. The investigator who interviewed her in October 2022 said Ervin mentioned that “she believed she was allowed to vote because she was told she could when she was released from prison,” and she “remembered it being reported that felons could now vote in Florida from the reports on television.”

Florida voters approved Amendment Four in November 2018, granting people with past felony convictions – except for murder and sex offense convictions – full voting rights after their sentence was complete, including probation and parole. When DeSantis took office, he signed a bill delaying the rights restoration until after the person had paid all fines and fees associated with their felony conviction.

Alicia Hill, spokesperson for the Tallahassee Police Department, said Ervin’s arrest was the result of an officer “proactively searching for wanted people,” according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

In response to a USA Today story regarding the case, DeSantis’ press secretary, Alex Lanfranconi, mocked Ervin’s felony case on Twitter/X.

Florida House Minority Leader Fentrice Driskell is standing in solidarity with Ervin, saying DeSantis’ law intentionally confused Black people.

“She is yet another Black person in Florida, another Floridian, that has been tricked by this confusing system they put in place,” Driskell said. “And I think it is confusing on purpose. I think it is intentional.”

Issa Travesty: Travis Scott Tickets Resell As Low As $7 For Utopia Circus Maximus Tour

Amid all the discussions of rap music and its declining sales, another example points to Texas native recording artist Travis Scott and his poor ticket sales.

According to Complex, Scott’s Utopia Circus Maximus Tour, his first set of shows since the tragic Astroworld Festival in 2021, launches Oct. 11 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The tour was reportedly sold out in August through the run of dates. Yet the demand for tickets has gone down to as low as $7 a ticket on the resale market.

StubHub listed several tickets sold in pairs for $7. The regular price of tickets bought from Ticketmaster is listed at $109.50 in a section of comparable value.

The tour, named after Scott’s latest album, Utopia, and his film, Circus Maximus, is scheduled to hit Atlanta, Boston, Las Vegas, and Nashville, and will have its last performance in Toronto on Dec. 29.

Some people took to social media to address the lower prices being offered in some states.

The irony of the tickets being sold at such a discount is that people and/or companies purchased many od them for the sole purpose of reselling them at a higher price point. Now they are taking a loss due to the lack of demand, and are selling the tickets very cheaply to try to soften the loss.

Although the rapper has embarked on continuing his career after the Astroworld tragedy, he is still in the midst of settling cases associated with the festival. Ten patrons passed away and hundreds others were injured on Nov. 5, 2021.

In August, the families of Axel Acosta and Brianna Rodriguez settled their lawsuits, and Rolling Stone reported the family of John Hilgert, who was 14 years old at the time of death, settled its lawsuit against Live Nation, Travis Scott, and other Astroworld organizers eight months ago.

Other lawsuits are still pending, and Scott, Live Nation, and connected companies are still facing civil suits from thousands of attendees. There are hundreds of millions of dollars in potential damages at stake.

‘I Want It All For Myself’: Shaquille O’Neal Sets His Sights On Bringing NBA Team To Las Vegas

‘I Want It All For Myself’: Shaquille O’Neal Sets His Sights On Bringing NBA Team To Las Vegas

Hall of Famer and five-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal is making his bid for ownership of an NBA expansion team in Las Vegas, The Messenger reports.

O’Neal has lived in Sin City for two decades and owns the popular fast-food chain Big Chicken and other businesses in the area. Now he’s ready to make an even bigger imprint by joining the ranks of players turned sports owners.

At his annual charity gala benefiting The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation, he said, “I love it here. Las Vegas has always been a city you knew was going to grow. You could see different casinos, different real estate projects, and different nightclubs popping up. I’ve always been a part of it. I used to own one of the hottest nightclubs, sold it, and now I got nine, 10 restaurants here. I’m doing very, very well, and I want to continue to grow with Vegas.”

The NBA hosts its annual Summer League in Las Vegas, and the WNBA’s reigning champion, Las Vegas Aces, have grown in popularity with the presence of players A’Ja Wilson and Candace Parker.

Though the league has made no comments as to whether there are plans to bring one of the country’s biggest sports to one of the country’s most notable tourist attractions, some pretty big names in basketball have already expressed similar interests. According to The Messenger, current Lakers player and newly minted billionaire LeBron James has been vocal about his desire to be part of any ownership group that might vie to bring a new franchise to Las Vegas upon his retirement. However, it doesn’t seem like James and O’Neal will own the same team, as the latter has his sights on flying solo.

“I would like to have my own group,” O’Neal said. “I know Vegas hasn’t been awarded an NBA team yet, but if they ever get to a point where they are awarded a team, I would like to be a part of that. I don’t want to partner up with nobody. I want it all for myself.”

Philadelphia Teen Receives Full Scholarship To Morehouse College Following Viral Acceptance Reaction

In April 2023, Philadelphia high school senior Amir Staten, who garnered attention earlier for receiving an acceptance letter from Morehouse College, was awarded a full-ride scholarship. This remarkable achievement came in the form of a four-year Bonner Scholars Scholarship, complemented by an additional $20,000 in academic funds, according to The Shade Room.

According to the blog, Staten, a senior at Germantown Friends School, is set to embark on his higher education journey with a major in sociology. This academic scholarship is a significant milestone for him, considering his aspirations to become a representative figure for Black students in Philadelphia.

The scholarship is an academic accolade and a source of profound relief for Staten and his mother, Karlyyne Staten. They can now find peace in the knowledge that Amir will have the opportunity to leave behind a city that has faced its share of challenges and dangers.

In an exclusive interview with The Shade Room, Karlynne expressed her gratitude and acknowledged the platform’s role in securing her son’s scholarship for Morehouse.

She said, “Your platform had soooo much to do with his scholarship. Words can’t even explain the gratitude and thanks.”

Amir, 17, celebrated his acceptance into the prestigious HBCU with a touching video. His mother captured the heartfelt moment and shared it online. The footage quickly went viral on social media. In the video, Karlyyne exclaims her congratulations while Amir jubilantly runs up his street, filled with excitement, clapping, screaming, and jumping for joy.

Amir hopes his college acceptance and scholarship will inspire his peers, motivating them to consider higher education. He is passionate about dispelling the notion that academic pursuits are incompatible with “being cool” and aims to encourage others to choose the path of knowledge over other alternatives.

In his interview with CBS Philadelphia, Amir said, “It’s OK to go to college. It’s cool to go to college. It’s cool to pick up a book; it’s cool to get a degree. You don’t have to be involved in the streets.”

His mom’s perspective on raising her child in Philadelphia took a significant turn following the tragic murder of Amir’s 18-year-old godbrother in 2021. She said, “I had a couple of mixed emotions because you know he’s going to get out. He is going to get out of Philly. I love Philly to death, but it is not safe for him. I love my city, but I’m happy he’s getting out.”

She believes Amir’s college acceptance will also inspire the city, particularly young Black men who may not always find the college path accessible. “It’s just showing a different light. To see a young Black man in Philadelphia celebrating an educational victory is like unheard of,” she said.

Amir is now on the path to realizing his dreams at Morehouse College and is set to graduate from high school this June. His remarkable journey is a personal achievement and a testament to the potential and promise of the young Black scholars in his community.

Ma$e Was ‘Trapped’ In His Hotel By ’70 Or So Bloods’ The Night Of Notorious B.I.G.’s Death

Ma$e, who reunited with his childhood friend Cam’ron to co-host the popular “It Is What It Is” podcast, made a revelation on a recent episode. He explained that he was “trapped” in an L.A. hotel room around the time his labelmate The Notorious B.I.G. was killed.

At the conclusion of the episode, Cam’ron, reading a question from a fan, asked Ma$e where he was when B.I.G. was shot and killed on March 9, 1997.

Cam’ron asked, “The night that Biggie Smalls died, where were you and what did you do in the aftermath right after Biggie Smalls died?”

Ma$e then described the situation he’d been in, saying that members of the Bloods gang were probably on the hunt for more Bad Boy artists, so he had to lay low.

“I was in a hotel. I was actually in a hotel with a young lady,” Ma$e recalled. “I actually was trapped in the hotel.”

He went on to explain why he was trapped. The presence of L.A. gang members had him hiding in the room so he could stay safe.

“It was about, probably like, 70 or so Bloods in the hallway. I couldn’t even leave my room,” Ma$e revealed.

“After B.I.G. got killed, they were probably looking for more Bad Boy artists. And I couldn’t even leave the room ’til Gene Deal had to come get me.”

“Damn, that’s f**ked up,” Cam told him. “Sorry.”

“I was left in L.A. And from that day, I always said, ‘I’m outta here,” Ma$e continued. “I was left! I came there with people; I ain’t leave with those people. You know how it goes. Find your way home.”

Ma$e concluded that he made it back home safely after the frightening situation.
