Teenager Honors 7 Forgotten Black Men Lynched In Indiana

A 17-year-old girl is honoring seven forgotten Black men who were lynched in Mount Vernon, Indiana, according to CBS News. Mount Vernon High School student Sophie Kloppenburg repeatedly appealed to the county commissioners in the predominantly white town until the men were acknowledged.

Kloppenburg learned that seven Black men were lynched in 1878 following false rape allegations. Jim Good, Edward Hill, William Chambers, Jeff Hopkins, Ed Warner and other “unnamed Negroes” were murdered. Four of the men were lynched directly in front of the county courthouse on the spot by an angry mob of 200 white men after a group of white women claimed they had been raped by them.

The hysteria of the false rapes also led to more deaths. Daniel Harrison Sr. shot police Captain Cyrus O. Thomas after Thomas came to arrest his sons, who were also accused. Harrison thought Thomas was a part of the mob that lynched the seven men. Harrison turned himself in but was shot twice and his body was dismembered. His remains were disposed of in the jail’s outhouse. His son, John Harrison, was shot to death and left in a hollow tree. His other son, Daniel Harrison Jr., was burned alive in the steam engine of a train.

After learning about the murders from a driver instructor, Kloppenburg looked for a marker or memorial acknowledging the injustice.

“I learned about the whole incident while I was driving for the first time,” she said. “And my driving instructor told me about it and I had never heard of it before. So I was shocked, because it was kind of a big deal, at least in my mind.”

Kloppenburg said that learning her teacher never heard about the lynchings either, she was motivated to highlight the injustice. She had several meetings with the Posey County Commissioners to inform them of the atrocities and was able to create a memorial and bench marker for the victims.

The teenager had some humbling words for the people of the Posey County town when she spoke in front of the courthouse.

“I’m sure people don’t want to remember because it’s hard to remember tough things, but it’s unacceptable to just forget,” she said.

Kloppenburg received a standing ovation before she even spoke at the unveiling ceremony for the markers on Oct. 23.

“I’m proud of Posey County, Indiana, and the beautiful people here for having the difficult conversations and giving a tangible voice to its minorities,” she said. “Thank you.”

‘It Hurt!’ Chris Rock Jokes About Being Slapped By Will Smith at Oscars

Chris Rock is still processing Will Smith‘s slap attack at the Academy Awards earlier this year in the best way he knows how…..telling jokes.

The comedian performed at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, where the Oscars slap took place, and made a lighthearted reference to his now-infamous encounter with Smith, NY Post reports.

After starting the show off with jokes about Dave Chappelle’s SNL monologue and the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, the “Everybody Hates Chris” creator addressed the elephant in the room.

“People were like, ‘Did it hurt?’ You’re goddamn right it hurt,” Rock exclaimed.

“Will Smith is significantly bigger than me. I am not the same size, Ok? This mother f—- played Ali! I played Pookie from ‘New Jack City!’”

The Spiral star went on to explain why he didn’t retaliate after Smith laid hands on him on live television.

“People say, ‘Why the f–k did you do nothing back?’ Because I got parents,” Rock quipped.

“Because I was raised, you know? You know what my parents taught me? Don’t fight in front of white people! No, I’m not a victim!”

The Oscars slap became the talk of the town following the 94th Academy Awards that aired in March. Smith walked on stage and slapped Rock after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

“Jada, I love you. ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it,” Rock jokingly said in reference to the 1997 film “G.I. Jane” in which Demi Moore’s character sports a buzz cut.

But Jada was visibly bothered by the joke and while Smith initially laughed, once he realized his wife wasn’t happy, he walked on stage and attacked Rock. While back in his seat, he shouted from the audience for Rock to “keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth.”

Shortly after the attack, Smith returned to the stage to accept his first Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Venus and Serena Williams’s father in King Richard. Smith has been under fire in wake of the attack and has remained in seclusion after publicly apologizing for his actions.

White YouTuber’s Prank on Rapper Boosie Backfires When He Gets Punched In the Face

Sometimes you have to know who to prank and who to stay away from.

A YouTube prankster found out the hard way that although he stripped the Bad Azz from his name, rapper Boosie can still be one (well, one of his boys can be).

The incident took place at a local Walmart over the weekend. The prankster, a white man who goes by the moniker of White Dolemite, posted the 24-second clip to his channel on Sunday. The video clip has almost 200,000 views. As White Dolemite approached the 40-year-old recording artist, who happened to be with three other individuals and a child, he appeared very much like a southerner dressed in a red shirt with blue denim overalls and a cowboy hat.

Without a greeting, the YouTuber walked up and said:

“Can you hand the mac ‘n cheese to me, boy?”

As Boosie looked up, White Dolemite rushed him saying, “Boy, I said hand it to me, now.”

After that, Boosie and his entourage gave the social media entertainer a few non-inviting looks. You can tell the temperature of the men wasn’t going to be a good look for what appeared to be a racist white man speaking disrespectfully to a Black man.

One of the guys with the rapper could be heard saying, “We’ll beat your ass,” while another questioned him, “Who you talking to like that?”

“Boosie,” White Dolemite responds, then says. “I’m the real Bad Azz. Now, hand it to me now, boy.”

To which another man asked, “Who you talking to like that, n***a? You tripping. I’ll beat your muthaf****n a** in this b***h.”

As the young man squared White Dolemite up, he said “what” to his face. Boosie looked confused in the midst of it all and stared at White Dolemite. The rapper then asked him if he was playing or if he was serious. By the time he got the last word out, his friend had already lunged at White Dolemite and struck him in the face. Then, the clip ended, leaving viewers wondering what happened after the punch.

Morgan Freeman Criticized For Participating In 2022 Qatar World Cup Opening Ceremony

Actor Morgan Freeman is being criticized for participating in the opening ceremony for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

According to USA Today, the Academy Award-winning actor was on hand at the Al-Bayt Stadium in Doha to narrate the opening segment, The Calling, on Nov. 20.

Qatar is facing criticism for human rights violations, including its treatment of the migrant workers who worked to prepare for the World Cup. Qatar is also accused of abuses against the LGBTQ+ community and civil liberties.

Freeman spoke of the world as “one big tribe” during his speech at the ceremony.

“We gather here as one big tribe and Earth is the tent we all live in,” said Freeman. “What unites us here is so much greater than what divides us. How can we make it last longer?”

Freeman was targeted on social media for his participation in the ceremony. One Twitter user said he should be ashamed of himself. Another noted that Freeman must be “determined to go to the deepest level of hell.”

Also sharing the stage with Freeman was an ambassador of the FIFA World Cup, Ghanim Al Muftah. Muftah was born with Caudal Regression Syndrome, a rare disorder that impairs the development of the lower spine.

Muftah recited verses from the Quran to share a message of diversity and acceptance during the ceremony. Despite the backlash Freeman received from some, others considered his moments on stage with Muftah one of the most beautiful moments of the opening ceremony.

Creative director of the ceremony, Ahmad Al Baker, said that he wanted to introduce Qatar to the world through culture with a theme of “bridging distances” for the ceremony to signify “a gathering for all mankind, an invitation to come together as one, bridging all differences with humanity, respect, and inclusion.”

Police Report Shows Shanquella Robinson Was Alive When Doctors Arrived at the Scene

Police Report Shows Shanquella Robinson Was Alive When Doctors Arrived at the Scene

Newly unveiled details from a police report revealed that Shanquella Robinson was alive when medical personnel arrived at the vacation home she was staying at with friends.

Robinson died one day after arriving in Cabo, Mexico last month for a vacation with friends. There have been mixed reports about how the 25-year-old passed away.

Initial reports claimed Robinson’s death certificate said she died within 15 minutes of being injured on October 29. But now a police report claims Robinson was alive with a doctor from a local hospital and others in the house for close to three hours before she was pronounced dead, the Charlotte Observer reports.

While it was initially claimed that Robinson died from alcohol poisoning, an autopsy revealed that Robinson died from injuries to her back and neck. The police report also says that Robinson suffered cardiac arrest.

In wake of her death, the FBI and Mexican authorities have launched investigations after social media turned the suspicious death into a trending topic. The lack of factual evidence and conflicting explanations from the group Robinson traveled with has led to her story going viral.

The hashtag #JusticeForShanquella has been trending across social media with many calling for the arrest of those who were in the house with Robinson. A video surfaced also showing Robinson being physically attacked by one of her female friends on the trip which has led many to demand her arrest.

Robinson’s family has also questioned her death and believes she was “attacked” by the group she was vacationing with.

“They attacked her ma’am,” Robinson’s father told TMZ.

“It seemed like, my daughter was asleep, ma’am… For all of them to be in that room…. And she’s naked, ma’am,” he explained while fighting back tears. “For a father, to see that video, ma’am, my daughter’s not a fighter, ma’am.”

“For them to do what they did ma’am, it seemed like a plot,” he added.

“They just put a hole in my heart, ma’am. That was my only child. I’m just heartbroken, ma’am.”

Investigations remain ongoing as many demand answers and justice.

Letitia Wright Accuses The Hollywood Reporter of Having ‘Personal Vendetta’ Against Her

Letitia Wright Accuses The Hollywood Reporter of Having ‘Personal Vendetta’ Against Her

Letitia Wright is tired of taking the high road and decided to clap back at one media outlet she believes has a “personal vendetta” against her.

The Black Panther star took to Instagram on Monday to blast The Hollywood Reporter (THR) for releasing an article that grouped her and other actors with “personal baggage” that could impact their chances at the Academy Awards. Along with Wright, the article called out Will Smith, who smacked Chris Rock at the Oscars, and Brad Pitt, who was accused of assaulting his ex-wife Angelina Jolie.

The article delved into how Wright, Smith, and Pitt “bring varying controversies to the campaign trail,” similar to Roman Polanski, who pleaded guilty to statutory rape and avoided punishment, and accused child molester Woody Allen.

For Wright, Huff Post reports that she faced criticism in December 2020 after promoting anti-vaccination sentiments. Wright is also the talk of the town in the wake of her leading role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Back in high demand and in the wake of her anti-vax statements, Wright thinks THR deemed her suitable for their list of Oscars contenders with “personal baggage.” But the actress had enough of the outlet’s “vile” targeting of her and let them have it on her Instagram Story.

“This is vile behavior,” Wright wrote over a screenshot of the article. “At this point [is] a personal vendetta towards me.”

“I’ve done nothing wrong but respectfully refused to do interviews with this publication. Stop your nonsense.”

Wright continued:

“I apologised TWO years ago,” she added.

“Remained silent on the topic. You lied and said I continued talking about it with my cast & crew on my set. THIS WAS NOT TRUE. ASK MY PRODUCER AND DIRECTOR.”

“The film was successful,” Wright said.

“Your agenda towards me is now even more clear. I won’t remain silent. Stop your disgusting behavior.”

She sent a second post aimed directly at the article’s author, Scott Feinberg.

“Did my performance rattle you that much?” she wrote.

“Get a life, like for real.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has grossed more than $500 million and counting since its Nov. 11 release.

Officials: Florida Woman Charged With Aggravated Child Abuse After Putting Alcohol In Baby’s Bottle

Officials: Florida Woman Charged With Aggravated Child Abuse After Putting Alcohol In Baby’s Bottle

Officials announced charges for a Florida woman after she intentionally put alcohol in a baby bottle, causing a child to get sick.

According to ABC affiliate station WEAR-TV, 28-year-old Cecil Bryant of Pensacola was arrested on Friday, Nov. 18, and later charged with aggravated child abuse, as detailed in an arrest report. The outlet reports that on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 1, an investigator with the Department of Children and Family Services advised authorities that a child had a blood alcohol level of .142.

A woman told authorities that she was having a Halloween party the night before when Bryant reportedly offered to make bottles for the children. The woman stated that after she fed her child the bottle that Bryant fixed that night and the following morning, the child fell asleep on and off and began vomiting.

In the arrest report, the woman told authorities the bottle smelled like “the odor of watermelon alcohol.” After tasting it, she reportedly noticed a taste of watermelon Smirnoff.

Investigators further reviewed the claims with the help of a camera she had recording in her living room. According to the report, the video showed Bryant grabbing the baby bottle and returning from the kitchen “while shaking a liquid in the bottle as if to mix formula.” Bryant then handed the bottle to the woman, who began feeding it to the baby.

Authorities checked the bottle and later determined it “emanated a watermelon alcohol smell,” according to WEAR-TV.

Once the woman and child arrived at the hospital, nurses stated that the baby’s blood alcohol level of .142 was a possibility for severe toxicity. WEAR-TV reports that authorities determined that Bryant “knowingly and willfully performed an intentional act that could reasonably be expected to cause great bodily harm or permanent disability/disfigurement to [the baby].”

Bryant was released from Escambia County Jail on a $7,500 bond.

Here’s How The Average Person ‘Shops Small’ 213 Times Throughout The Year

Here’s How The Average Person ‘Shops Small’ 213 Times Throughout The Year

Multiple reports show the ability to offer greater flexibility in lowering prices, developing closer relationships, and being community oriented are among the reasons why small businesses gain more favor from consumers than their larger rivals.

In fact, new data shows the average person “shops small” 213 times during the year, and three in four people (74%) depend on small businesses because they have a product or service that is hard to find in another place. The top goods people buy are tea (44%), groceries (43%), flowers (40%), and soda (40%). Around two-thirds say they trust small businesses online without any physical store presence.

The findings are from a survey of 2,000 Americans paid for by AT&T and conducted by OnePoll to showcase the impact of small enterprises before Small Business Saturday this weekend. The event inspires people to do business with reportedly around 32 million independent retailers and restaurants nationwide.

Talker News reported that the survey revealed nine of 10 people bank on small businesses for some event in their lives. When it comes to eating, some 72% of respondents agreed that food and drinks at small, local restaurants or cafes “taste better” than at chain establishments. About 56% reported that products are better quality at their local store than online. Some 41% reported that they can find items that alternatively would be tough to find online.

A colossal 88% of respondents said they knew someone who works at a small business where they live locally, and the average person knows four small business employees by name.

On the services front, people depend on small businesses for a broad mix of offerings. Some 54% said they go to small businesses for manicures and pedicures, 45% for handyman services, and 44% for haircuts.

Further, the survey revealed that people opt for shopping small because of connection. Being able to see products before buying them (57%), the convenience of having products in walking distance (52%), and mingling with the owner, sales people, or other customers (46%) were among the leading reasons. Interestingly, a robust 64% of those surveyed said they sometimes feel guilty after shopping at big chain stores.

The survey disclosed that around 48% of people learn about local stores via community apps.

“More than a decade since its founding, Small Business Saturday continues to promote the importance of supporting small and local businesses,” stated Caleb Deerinwater, vice president of AT&T Mass Markets, Sales & Distribution.

“While 62% of our respondents would prefer a small business over a large retailer for the uniqueness of a gift or service, a similar amount (61%) want to support their local community.”

He also reflected on the importance of having different types of support to run a successful venture. “Having a high-speed internet connection with 24/7 network security is essential to keeping operations running smoothly and staying connected to customers.”

After Suffering Stroke 2 Years Ago, Comedian Sinbad Is Learning to Walk Again on Road to Recovery

The Journey Forward is the website’s title and can be reached by clicking this link.

There is detailed information on the website about Sinbad’s ordeal, as his family has been by his side ever since. The stroke occurred on October 25, 2020.

Sinbad suffered an ischemic stroke due to a blood clot that traveled from his heart to his brain. After being rushed into surgery at West Hills Medical Center, the doctors conducted a procedure called thrombectomy. This removed the clot that traveled to his brain and helped restore normal blood flow to the brain.

Sadly, the next day, another blood clot formed, half the size of the first one discovered.

The same procedure was used to remove this clot, and it was successful. Sinbad, whose real name is David Adkins, was taken to Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where the doctors discovered that his brain had begun to swell. This time a craniotomy was done to relieve the pressure and reduce the swelling. Other difficulties ensued, and he was placed in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator.

That was the beginning of several other mishaps on the way to Sinbad’s road to recovery. More details are on the site to give a complete update on his ordeal.

The family has issued a statement from the comedian about his journey back.

“Thank God for everything He’s given you, even if it’s not everything you asked for. Thank God for family and hug the ones you love while you’re still with them. We need each other to get through this journey. I can’t wait to see you all again soon.”

Update: University Of Virginia Football Player Mike Hollins Released From Hospital

Update: University Of Virginia Football Player Mike Hollins Released From Hospital

The University of Virginia football player who was shot helping his friends was released from the hospital, according to his mother, Brenda Hollins.

Running back Mike Hollins was shot three times on Nov. 13. Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry were shot and killed by 22-year-old Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. after they returned from a field trip to Washington, D.C. on a charter bus. It was reported that Jones opened fire inside the bus and shot five people.

Hollins’ mother noted her son’s release on Twitter.

“Mike has been discharged!!! HALLELUJAH I want to thank everyone for their prayers, text messages, and calls,” she wrote. “This has truly been a test of faith and I’m grateful. GOD has shown me he is faithful!”

She also asked people to continue to pray for the families of Chandler, Davis Jr., and Perry.

“Please continue praying for Mike as he recovers and settles into his new life. Please continue to pray for the Chandler, Davis, Perry families. They need us!!! GOD is amazing!”

According to USA Today, Hollins told his mom that when he heard the gunshots, he first thought they were balloons being popped. Hollins was one of the first people off of the bus, but when he realized that only two other students were behind him, he told the students to run and returned to the bus to help.

After he got back to the bus, he saw Jones with a handgun. He turned to run and was shot three times in the back. The bullet exited through Hollins’ stomach. He was released from the University of Virginia Medical Center on Nov. 20 after having several surgeries.

According to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Chandler, Davis Jr., and Perry all died after being shot in the head. Another student, Marlee Morgan, was reported shot but had non-life-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital last week. Jones reportedly shot one of his victims while he was sleeping.

Jones was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
