Michael Jordan Drops $11K Tip For Employees At Greek Restaurant

The legend was there for a Jordan Brand event in Athens

Billionaire NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan, on a recent trip to Athens, Greece, reportedly left a very generous €10,000 ($11,639) tip at a restaurant.

According to Greek City Times, the legendary basketball player was in town and was dining at Papaioannou when he made the kind gesture. Jordan was vacationing in Spetses but was also there to attend a Jordan Brand event titled “Board of Greatness,” which was attended by the likes of Los Angeles Lakers’ Luka Dončić, NBA Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony, and Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo.

Fadeaway World reported that the tip was left after a meal that was personally prepared by the restaurant’s chef, George Papaioannou. The menu included Mediterranean delights, sea bass sashimi, grilled lobster, shrimp skewers, and the fresh catch of the day. Jordan enjoyed the meal and the generosity of the staff so much that he was seen thanking the chef and servers, and mentioned how Greece inspired the spirit of competition and legacy that his brand wants to achieve.

The legend spoke to the crowd at the exclusive event.

“I am thrilled that the Jordan family is here for this special gathering.”

“It is fitting that we are in Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic Games and modern sports. We began this event believing it was important for us to come together and set the tone for where Jordan Brand is headed, while upholding our commitment to the Brand’s legacy of excellence.”

Jordan has reportedly left Greece and may be gearing up for his new gig, which will start in October.

NBC announced earlier this year that when the NBA returns to NBC in October, Jordan will be part of NBC Sports’ regular season coverage, serving as a special contributor. He joins other former players like Jamal Crawford and Reggie Miller, who will serve as game analysts, and Carmelo Anthony, who is on board as a studio analyst. The network did not explain what his exact role will be, but it will be his first role as a television analyst, interviewer, and/or commentator, etc.

NBC is returning to broadcasting NBA games after a 23-year hiatus.

Black USAF Nonprofit Is Highlighting African Americans In The Air Force During The Cold War

The project, Black USAF: Cultural Connections in Cold War East Anglia, is led by Elma Glasgow.

There’s a new research project that aims to celebrate the untold stories of African Americans who served in the U.S. Air Force and personnel based in East England during the Cold War. The project, Black USAF: Cultural Connections in Cold War East Anglia, is led by Elma Glasgow. Glasgow is on a mission to tell the stories behind the Black men and women on these bases during that time. She says their stories have not been well-documented, and it’s time to give them a voice.

It’s personal for Glasgow. Growing up in Cambridgeshire, she grew up alongside U.S. Air Force personnel on the border with Suffolk. She told the BBC that she thought it “very normal” to go into the American airbases and “mingle with the Americans” as a child. It wasn’t until Glasgow left the area that she realized that it was a rare experience.

Sharing The Influence Of African American Air Force Members in East England

Glasgow is the founder of Aspire Black Suffolk, an award-winning nonprofit organization that’s on a mission to promote diversity, equality, and inclusion, while challenging inequalities through positive action. Recently, Glasgow was recognized and awarded the Museums Association Radical Changemaker Award for the Power of Stories Exhibition Tour. In partnership with Marvel and various organizations, the exhibition featured three original costumes from the Black Panther film. It was through this work that she realized she could help bring the stories of African American U.S. Air Force personnel to the forefront.

“Telling different aspects of Black history in the East of England is incredibly important because I think people have assumptions about the East — like it’s all tractors and sugar beet,” she told the BBC. “Actually, we have an incredible cultural history and a lot of that was created by the Americans who were based here, not just during the Cold War, but before that.”

For this project, Glasgow and her team want to hear from people who were living in the East of England during the Cold War period. Relatives can also share their experiences interacting with personnel for the new digital archive.

“We’d love to hear your stories of how you were influenced by African American airmen’s culture,” the prompt on the questionnaire reads. “Be it food, music, politics, religion, sport, or fashion, feel free to share your story below.”

Individuals interested in contributing their stories to the project can do so by visiting www.blackusaf.org/contact.

Lupita Nyong’o Launches Uterine Fibroid Research Grant To Raise Awareness, ‘No More Suffering In Silence’

Lupita Nyong’o steps up her advocacy with bold action for uterine fibroid research.

Lupita Nyong’o is honoring Fibroid Awareness Month by sharing her personal experience with the chronic health condition and taking action through congressional bills and a research grant.

The Black Panther star got candid in a July 15 Instagram post that highlighted the Academy Award she won in 2014, the same year she learned she had uterine fibroids. In a series of captioned photos, Nyong’o shared the surgery she had to remove 30 fibroids from her uterus that her doctor told her was “only a matter of time” before they grew back.

Nyong’o wrote: “8 out of 10 Black women and 7 out of 10 white women will experience fibroids. Yet we speak so little of them.”

With uterine fibroids impacting 80% of Black women and 70% of white women by age 50, Nyong’o stresses the importance of raising awareness on this issue to stop normalizing the pain women endure during menstruation.

“When we reach puberty, we’re taught that periods mean pain, and that pain is simply part of being a woman,” the actress wrote.

But after sharing her experience with other women over the years, Nyong’o realized many were enduring the same battle, but “struggling alone.”

“We’re struggling alone with something that affects most of us,” she wrote. “No more suffering in silence!”

The experience pushed Nyong’o to take meaningful action, partnering with members of Congress to introduce legislation aimed at expanding research funding, improving early detection and treatment of uterine fibroids, and raising public awareness. The US star also teamed up with the Foundation for Women’s Health to launch the FWH x Lupita Nyong’o Uterine Fibroid Research Grant, which aims to “develop minimally invasive or non-invasive treatments for uterine fibroids to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life for the 15 million patients suffering from this chronic condition in the U.S. alone.”

“This Fibroid Awareness Month and beyond, I hope my experience will resonate with anyone else who has ever felt dismissed, confused, or alone,” she wrote. “And I hope to seek answers for the far too many women dealing with uterine fibroids (80% of Black women and 70% of white women by age 50!). We deserve better. It’s time to demand it. Silence serves no one!”

Jay-Z, lawsuit, dropped

Jay-Z Says Paternity Suit Is Full Of ‘Fabricated Allegations’

Jay-Z dismisses Rymir Satterthwaite’s paternity lawsuit as “fabricated,” but Satterthwaite firmly disagrees.

Jay-Z has issued a formal response to Rymir Satterthwaite’s paternity lawsuit that the hip-hop mogul claims is full of “fabricated allegations.”

Recently filed court documents reveal Jay-Z’s (real name Shawn Carter) request for a judge to intervene in Satterthwaite’s federal lawsuit against him, Us Weekly reports. Hov calls the lawsuit “just the latest” in Satterthwaite and his caregiver’s “decades-long harassment of [Jay-Z].”

“The fabricated allegations and claims have been addressed – and rejected — in multiple other courts and [Satterthwaite’s] continued harassment of [Jay-Z] and disregard of those orders has already resulted in a contempt order,” Jay-Z’s filing states.

The father of three claims he only learned about Satterthwaite’s lawsuit on June 3 and is asking a judge for more time to issue a formal response. When Jay-Z’s lawyer reached out to Satterthwaite’s caregiver to request more time to respond to the suit, they claim the woman hung up on them.

“[Jay-Z] will be irreparably prejudiced without additional time to evaluate and prepare his response to the complaint,” the filing states.

Satterthwaite, 31, claims that Jay-Z, 55, had a relationship with his now-deceased mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, in the 1990s when he was 22 and she was 16. He says he has filed multiple paternity suits against the Roc Nation founder that were all dismissed. Satterthwaite remains under the care of his godmother, who he says has faced “unrelenting efforts by [Jay-Z] and his enablers to suppress the truth and silence those who dared to speak it.”

The suit accuses Jay-Z of consistently refusing to submit to a DNA test, choosing “instead to obstruct and manipulate the legal process.” Satterthwaite believes the rapper’s celebrity status has helped him avoid accountability, citing a 2015 case dismissed in New Jersey after a judge ruled that the court lacked jurisdiction over Jay-Z.

After pushing for Jay-Z to take a paternity test, Satterthwaite claims his car was shot six times—a move he interpreted as a clear “message intended to silence him.”

He isn’t seeking back child support, but is instead suing for damages tied to what he describes as years of alleged misconduct by the rapper. This includes the “wrongful dismissal” of previous paternity suits, as well as emotional and psychological distress, anxiety, public humiliation, and stress-related health and mental health issues.

While the store does have a physical location, it also hosts pop-ups in schools and select venues. The organization also solicits monetary donations to help cover the costs of these activities. Supporters interested in contributing to the cause can make a donation to the organization’s GoFundMe page. In an interview with 11 Alive, a spokeswoman for the organization spoke about the company’s mission:

“Our mission is to connect community donations with the teachers who shape our future,” the nonprofit states.

Teacher’s Closet’s leadership team is also working to broaden access by hosting fashion show fundraisers—the organization partners with featured designers to support clothing artists and expand the organization’s reach. Designer collaborations for July 2025 are Cabi Clothing and Holly Shae designs.

As teaching costs rise and budgets tighten, the group says its model provides both practical assistance and emotional support to educators who rarely get a break .

U.S. Issues ‘Do Not Travel’ Advisory For Haiti, Warning Americans To Avoid Country

The U.S. issued this new travel advisory amid the news it is stripping temporary protection status for Haitians living legally in the country.

U.S. travelers have officially been warned not to travel to Haiti, as the Caribbean nation has an upgraded travel advisory.

The U.S. Department of State issued the new “Do Not Travel” warning July 15. They cited the ongoing political unrest within the state due to gang control and violence.

The country has been in a state of emergency since March 2024, prompting the U.S. to list it as a heightened security risk. Now, they are recommending no travel whatsoever to the nation as its violence against citizens and foreign individuals wages on.

“Haiti has been under a State of Emergency since March 2024. Crimes involving firearms are common in Haiti,” detailed the updated travel advisory. “They include robbery, carjackings, sexual assault, and kidnappings for ransom. Do not travel to Haiti for any reason.”

The advisory also singled out kidnapping as a significant issue for U.S. citizens traveling to the country. The statement shared that kidnappers often demand ransoms, with some Americans paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to rescue their loved ones.

Crime and terrorism in the country have grown into an international concern, with local law enforcement struggling to quell the gang activity and gunfire. The advisory also listed the gangs as a “designated terrorist organization” in Haiti, with their presence mainly found in the capital city, Port-au-Prince.

“Violent crime is rampant in Haiti, especially in Port-au-Prince, where the expansion of gang, organized crime, and terrorist activity has led to widespread violence, kidnappings, and sexual assault,” added the advisory. “The escalation of clashes between armed groups has led to a rise in sporadic gunfire incidents. There is a substantial risk of being struck by stray bullets, even for individuals not directly involved in the violence.”

For those in its neighboring country, the Dominican Republic, the U.S. urges Americans not to cross the border by land. If done so illegally, Americans may face hefty fines if they try to leave.

The advisory also stated that the U.S. has a limited emergency response available for assistance, with essential services and supplies being limited at local hospitals. While the U.S. strongly advises against travel to Haiti, it recommends that those willing to take the risk remain vigilant and have a safety plan in place.

The news comes amid the U.S.’s plans to end temporary protection status for Haitians living legally in the country. The stripping of this status has already led to backlash by the Haitian American community, as recently covered by BLACK ENTERPRISE.

This community called out the U.S. for deeming Haiti “safe” enough for nationals to return, despite restricting travel for U.S. residents. With travel between the two nations more fraught than ever, over 500,000 Haitians in the U.S. are now at risk.

MLB, Hank Aaron

Hank Aaron’s Historic Record-Breaking Home Run Recreated For Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game

He hit his 715th home run April 8, 1974, in Atlanta

This year’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game celebrated the historic time when Henry “Hank” Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s home run record by recreating the moment with added graphics.

Until Barry Bonds (762 career home runs) broke the Major League Baseball home run record in 2007, the Hall of Famer held the record (755 homers) and broke the previous mark (Babe Ruth’s 714) when he hit his 715th home run April 8, 1974, in Atlanta. This year’s game took place in the Georgia city, and the league found a way to acknowledge the feat during the contest between the American and National Leagues.

According to MLB, between the sixth and seventh innings of the annual game, a video was played that showed the historic moment that took place at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. The scene was shown live on the Fox Network, capturing the exact moment, with added graphics, when Aaron made history with that one swing on that historic day.

A light show was displayed, and after the video ended, cameras zoomed in on Aaron’s wife, Billye Aaron, who was in attendance at the Braves’ home stadium, Truist Park. Fans at the venue gave her and the moment, a standing ovation.

ESPN reported that players from the National League wore practice jerseys with Aaron’s No. 44 on the back before the start of the All-Star contest. Last year, the league celebrated the 50th anniversary of the historic moment with announcements that a new statue of the baseball player will be at the Baseball Hall of Fame, as well as a commemorative stamp from the U.S. Postal Service.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred also announced that the Braves have established a $100,000 endowment for a scholarship at Tuskegee University, which is based in Aaron’s home state of Alabama.

The 25-time All-Star, who also set records with 2,297 RBIs, 1,477 extra-base hits, and 6,856 total bases, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1982.

Hank Johnson

Listen To Congressman Hank Johnson’s Very Loud Song For Leaders To Release Epstein Files

Some social media users took the video with stride and seemingly encouraged him to keep going.

As the pressure rises for Republican lawmakers to release the Jeffrey Epstein files, Democratic lawmakers like Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) are coming up with creative — and cringeworthy — ways to turn up the heat.

In a viral video seen across social media platforms, Johnson decided to pick up a guitar and create a song to the tune of singer Jason Isbell’s hit single, “Dreamsicle,” and American voters are giving him both the side-eye and laughs. “I’m Congressman Hank Johnson, coming to give you some ear candy or perhaps an ear ache, but I’m going to do my best of this Jason Isbell tune ‘Dreamsicle,” he states in his introduction.

Then, Johnson begins singing, starting with the lyrics,” Epstein dies by suicide, believe that and you must be blind.”

Some social media users took the video in stride and seemed to encourage him to keep going. One user even prompted him to take his show on the road. “Please quit your day job and take this on the road,” one X user said. Another said the song was “kinda hard.”

https://twitter.com/Happyippah/status/1945282454757031936

Others are pointing out that the files, allegedly holding the names of high-profile dignitaries who engaged in sex trafficking and other illegal activities with the former financier, are no laughing matter.

This isn’t the first time Johnson picked up a guitar to sing about his grievances on political matters. To celebrate Black Music Month, he gave voters a taste of his rendition of Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe,” with an anti-President Donald Trump undertone. The Georgia lawmaker warns listeners that he is just learning how to play and asks viewers not to hold it against him.

“Hey, Trump, where you goin’ with that gun in your hand?” Johnson sang.

“I’m goin’ down the street to shoot democracy. You know I wanna be a king someday.”

Viewers and Democratic critics are calling the performances “tone deaf” as Johnson and other Blue leaders are experimenting with social media as a new way to reach voters. According to Fox News, New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez received backlash for participating in TikTok’s “Choose Your Fighter” trend.

Bishop TD Jakes Rebukes AI Bots That Targeted Him Over ‘Freak Offs’

Bishop TD Jakes warns that the salacious rumors surround he and Sean "Diddy" Combs are being pushed by artificial intelligence.

Bishop T.D. Jakes addresses “freak off” allegations. In an interview with John Hope Bryant for his Money and Wealth podcast, Jakes said many of the comments regarding his alleged participation in the sex parties were AI-generated.

Jakes believes that Black people need to be accountable for tearing other Black people down. However, in this case, Snopes discovered that the driving force behind the spread of these particular allegations wasn’t our community. A large number of comments were from AI bots.

“When that first broke out, there were 44,000 bots that were released on me and anyone who reads Snopes … discovered that 98% of them were artificial intelligence-generated.

Snopes did indeed investigate the claims against Jakes, finding the “evidence” against him insufficient. However, the investigation makes no mention of AI bots. Multiple AI-generated and altered videos of the bishop were posted online, feeding the rumors. Evidence and transcripts from the Combs sex trafficking and racketeering trial showed no intimate relationship between the two men. Jakes’s name was only mentioned once, not in connection with Combs’s sex parties.

“We found no shortage of videos promoting the false and unfounded rumors about Jakes and Combs,” Snopes wrote in its detailed breakdown and debunking of the rumors.

The former head of the Potter’s house pointed out he was not the only public figure to be attacked by salacious claims, as it “comes with the turf.” He believes social media is the culprit of much of the disinformation. It really proved to me to Oprah to Denzel . . . we have got to stop getting our information on TikTok.”

Beyond the conversation of “freak offs,” Bryant and Jakes spoke on the topic of good business practices and making “boring” a sexy disposition. As the federal government continues its aggressive immigration policies and the Big Beautiful Bill recently approved by Congress is granting billions of dollars to ICE enforcement, Jakes believes Black people are not serious enough.

According to Jake, the levity with which people are approaching the aggressive changes needs to stop. He says “playing games and being salacious” in the face of undemocratic practices is not doing anyone any favors.

“Boring has got to come back to a place of being attractive. It’s got to be something we’re willing to quit joking and high-fiving and playing around and making memes and playing games and being salacious. While we’re being salacious, districts are being taken over the country. The political landscape is being taken over, voting rights are being taken over, and we’re running them around, seeing how salacious and indifferent or humorous we can be. And this is not a laughing time. This is a serious time that we really have to apply ourselves in order to be appropriate,” Jakes said.

While Bishop Jakes rebuked the misuse of AI to slander his name, he is also rebuking complacency in the community. Jakes continues to encourage Black people to get active, denounce internet hot takes and rage bait, and “get boring” as we ready ourselves for changing times.

HEROES IRL: Black Couple Detains Suspected Arsonist In Runyon Canyon, 6 Months After California Wildfire Aftermath

The incident served as a stark reminder of the deadly fires that gripped the region in January.

On July 13, a Hollywood Hills couple on a routine Sunday hike in Runyon Canyon took decisive action, apprehending a man they allege ignited a palm tree fire and capturing his apparent confession in a video that has since gone viral across social media.

Scott Anthony Mitchell, a former professional football player, and Davanh DiMarco, a designer, held the suspect until authorities arrived, averting a potentially catastrophic blaze in the fire-vulnerable Hollywood Hills. The incident unfolded as Mitchell, 41, and DiMarco were nearing the conclusion of their excursion. Their attention was drawn to a burning palm tree and a man emerging from nearby foliage.

“There was no doubt in my mind he did it,” DiMarco stated, observing what appeared to be a lighter in the man’s hand.”

With the recent memory of the Sunset fire, which had necessitated the evacuation of their home in the same area just six months prior, the couple was acutely aware of the wildfire threat. Mitchell, leveraging his athletic conditioning, swiftly closed the 150-yard distance to confront the individual.

“I was just surprised I had a little left in the tank,” he quipped, reflecting on the pursuit. ”By the time DiMarco began recording with her cellphone, Mitchell had already engaged the suspect. “I made sure he knew that he wasn’t going anywhere,” Mitchell recounted.

Other hikers on the popular trail quickly joined in, assisting in the man’s detainment and contacting police and fire services. Some bystanders, captured in the now-viral video of the encounter, voiced their frustration with the suspect.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded promptly, deploying helicopters and fire trucks, and the fire was extinguished within an hour. State park rangers and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers subsequently arrested the suspect, according to LAFD spokesperson Margaret Stewart. LAPD officials have not publicly identified the individual, directing all inquiries to state park rangers, who have yet to issue a statement.

After leaving the scene, the gravity of their actions began to settle in for the couple. DiMarco uploaded their video, which has since amassed hundreds of thousands of views on Instagram. “I didn’t realize how big it would be,” she remarked. “It’s sad that he admitted that he did that and didn’t care.”

Among the thousands of comments, several users claimed to have observed the same man attempting to start fires in other park locations.

The incident served as a stark reminder of the deadly fires that gripped the region in January. The Sunset fire alone consumed 43 acres near Runyon Canyon on January 8, prompting extensive evacuations, though no homes were damaged.

That blaze, however, ignited concurrently with strong winds that fueled devastating fires in Altadena and Pacific Palisades, tragically claiming 30 lives.

“We don’t wanna relive that, and we don’t want anybody else to have to relive that,” Mitchell expressed on Instagram July 15. “Back at Runyon today! Thank you all so much for the love! We never expected this kind of response; we just did what felt right in that moment. To see so many people stand with us means everything. Let’s keep protecting each other! Unfortunately, no update yet on the arsonist.”
