Looks Like Al Green, Christian Menefee Will Face A Runoff Election For Texas House Seat

As the district is historically Democratic led, whoever wins the runoff is slated to win November’s general election.

There is still room for a leader of Texas’ newly redrawn 18th Congressional District as veteran Democratic lawmaker Rep. Al Green enters a runoff election against fellow congressman and attorney Christian Menefee, HuffPost reported.

The two congressmen will face each other in the runoff election scheduled for May 26, after both candidates failed to win more than 50% of the vote during the March 3 primary election. Menefee, 37, led Green by roughly two percent of points but still fell short of winning outright as two other Democratic candidates pulled votes from him and Green.

As the district is historically Democratic-led, whoever wins the runoff is slated to win November’s general election.

Both men are eyeing to be the leader of the newly redrawn 18th Congressional district, serving large parts of Houston. Green, 78, had served the 9th district since 2005, but after Republicans pushed through partisan redistricting in 2025, his leadership was pushed into the 18th. According to USA Today, the seat has been empty for a little over 12 months since two representatives — Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee and Sylvester Turner — passed away while in office.

The battle is being described as a test of how badly voters are looking for generational change in Congress, with Green’s age being in question. However, Menefee said he isn’t focused on that. Labeling himself as “the person to carry this district into the future,” and “the only candidate in the race” who has stood up to the Trump crew, the former Harris County district attorney is focused on important issues like affordability and defending democracy.

After the redrawn maps were approved, Menefee said neither he nor Green asked for them and said the incumbent-on-incumbent battle is a result of the redistricting. Republican Gov. Greg Abbott was accused of slow-walking efforts to fill Turner’s seat as the special election between Menefee and former Houston City Council member Amanda Edwards didn’t take place until eight months later.

As this is the second runoff election the young congressman has participated in, he spoke out against Abbott and other GOP efforts, calling them a distraction from the real issues. “I want to be clear about one thing: we are not going to let Donald Trump and Greg Abbott use this gerrymandering scheme as a distraction from the real issues facing the people of this country,” Menefee said.

“The 18th Congressional District has shown loud and clear that they want a fighter who can deliver real results, and I’m focused on continuing to deliver that.”

Green himself has been an avid and outspoken critic of President Donald Trump and his agenda, seeking to have him impeached several times. Most recently, he confronted Trump during the 2026 State of the Union address for a highly offensive post of the Obama family as apes. He was thrown out for holding up a sign reading, “Black people aren’t apes.”

FedEx Driver Fired For Posting Viral Clip Of Racist Woman Hurling N-Word At Him During Shift

His employer, contracted with FedEx, fired him after stating his video violated company policy.

A former FedEx driver is seeking new work after being berated by a racist woman during his shift.

Doug Ahmed says his contractor fired him after video of the incident in San Diego went viral in January. Now, he is surviving off unemployment in what he feels is a gap in justice.

According to Atlanta Black Star, the alleged racist encounter actually happened in October 2025. Ahmed was in the middle of his shift when a woman complained about his driving.

While the woman initially accused him of speeding, which the FedEx driver denied, the conversation took a racist turn. Another TikTok user re-shared the viral video.

“I know the speed limit here. I got hit by a trash truck,” she said in the video.

Convinced of his truth, Ahmed even offered a corporate phone number for the woman to call and file a complaint. However, she responded by hurling out slurs, including the n-word.

“No, b*tch. You’re FedEx n*gger,” she responded. “You ain’t sh*t… this is Chula Vista, homie,” she yelled.

The racist woman proceeded to keep calling him the n-word, prompting Ahmed to ask for the apartment unit number to avoid meeting again. An additional clip also showed the woman blocking his exit from the complex, escalating tensions.

I can’t believe this is happening,” he told  KGTV Channel 10 News. “In the seven years I’ve been at FedEx, that’s the first time being called the N-word on the job.”

However, shortly after posting the transgression to TikTok, he says the company fired him for violating its policies. He told the outlet that his termination letter stated he displayed the company name and the FedEx truck, which led to his firing.

Despite the violations, he says the firing just adds insult to injury.

He continued, “To post a video and get fired afterward, it’s like a double slap in the face.”

Now, his family has launched a GoFundMe to help him get back on his feet after suffering the most from the racist encounter.

“While he was doing his job delivering packages, he was confronted and recorded by a resident,” described the fund. “During the incident, he was verbally harassed, threatened, and called racial slurs. He remained calm and professional throughout the entire interaction.”

Thus far, the crowdfunding effort has raised a little over $4K toward its $ 10K goal. However, Ahmed and his loved ones hope their community will aid him as he moves to a new company that empathizes with his situation.

It added, “Shortly after it went viral, my brother was terminated from his job. This fundraiser will help bridge the gap while he looks for new work and supports his family.”

Frederick Haynes III

Meet Frederick Haynes III – Jasmine Crockett’s Pastor Eyeing Her Congressional Seat

The well-known faith leader is known for his civil rights and social justice issues advocacy in North Texas and hopes to bring focus on issues like economic opportunity, voting rights and criminal justice reform to the Senate floor.

The country is getting ready to become familiar with Frederick Haynes III, the Dallas, Texas, pastor who won the Democratic primary for the state’s 30th Congressional District, once overseen by former Rep. Jasmine Crockett.

The senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church, with a congregation of more than 13,000 members, will be the Democratic nominee for Congress from the 30th District in November, CBS News reported, replacing former Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who lost her bid for U.S. Senate to state Rep. James Talarico. The well-known faith leader, who is also Crockett’s pastor, is known for his civil rights and social justice issues in North Texas and hopes to bring focus on issues like economic opportunity, voting rights, and criminal justice reform to the Senate floor.

Haynes is already receiving some support on social media, particularly for his stance on the Israeli-Palestine conflict. Social media users posted a clip from a 2023 sermon where he spoke out against Israel and admitted that most want to support the country so they won’t get in trouble. “Well, I’m here to get in trouble,” he said with the #FreePalestine hashtag attached.

Others seem excited for Haynes to be highlighted on the national stage. @JEFordNCTOY, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., celebrated his fraternity brother’s victory and said, “he is about that business. Always has been.”

https://twitter.com/JEFordNCTOY/status/2029173871471902988

While social media pushed back on Crockett’s support of Israel, Haynes once took a different approach to it, saying that it’s okay for leaders to think differently. “Every leader approaches things differently, and I greatly respect Congresswoman Crockett’s work and approach,” Haynes said of Crockett, who endorsed him, according to The Intercept

“My worldview and my positions are deeply rooted in my community, and the struggles I see those around me experiencing on a daily basis. Our community is justice-minded here in Dallas.”

While running on the Democratic ticket, the 65-year-old pastor is put in the category of a progressive leader, added to a roster of leaders like Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar.

Prior to his victory, Haynes said during this intricate political climate, it’s time for a change, saying that Democrats have dropped the ball. “Dems have let us down. The wolves of hunger, fascism, and injustice are at our door, and what does the Democratic establishment have to offer in response — strongly worded letters?” he said.

“Our community deserves better than this: they deserve leadership that will fight for them with the courage and commitment that this moment requires.”

Teen Husband Kills Wife Right After Giving Birth Then Self In Murder-Suicide At Alabama Hospital

The incident shocked the community for the fatal shooting of a woman directly after giving birth.

A teen husband in Alabama killed his wife shortly after she gave birth in a horrific murder-suicide.

Kynath Terry Jr., gunned down his wife at an Alabama hospital right before fatally shooting himself on March 1. The woman, 24-year-old Precious Johnson, delivered a healthy baby before her child’s father took her life. Police confirmed no other injuries outside the two new parents.

According to the New York Post, the teen husband had just finished training for the National Guard before getting married to Johnson. However, the young couple had begun to experience marital woes ahead of the tragedy that shocked their Homewood community.

Although the couple’s relationship became strained, Terry’s mother told WTVM that neither she nor his wife expressed concerns about him committing any harm. Despite this, the grieving mother noted that Johnson did not want any of Terry’s family members present at the hospital as she gave birth.

While unclear as to why Johnson forbade her husband’s family from attending, tensions escalated to new heights with Terry bringing a gun into the hospital room. He shot the new mother multiple times, leaving her dead.

The shooting led the Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital to go into lockdown for hours, only lifting the protocol after determining no other threats to the public. Upon a preliminary investigation, the Homewood Police Department found the incident to be “an apparent murder-suicide and is domestic in nature.”

Now, a family is grieving the loss of a new mother to a now-orphaned child. Meanwhile, local officials are heightening security procedures to ensure an incident like this does not occur again. Danne Howard, the president of the Alabama Hospital Association, also called the killing “an isolated incident” that brings an unwanted first to the hospital.

In the aftermath, Howard also assured that the hospital would review its security process with “lessons learned” from the attack.

Can’t Help It: Trump Blames Obama In First Public Remarks Following Deadly Iran Strikes

While Obama or Biden haven't taken the time to respond to Trump’s verbal attacks, the president has continued to push that tensions may potentially heighten in Iran.

In his first public remarks since the U.S. conducted deadly strikes on Iran, in collaboration with Israel and with congressional approval, President Donald Trump used his time to push blame on former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, The Grio reported.

Trump defended the decision to strike Iran in late February 2026, hitting intelligence and infrastructure sites in addition to a girls’ school, killing dozens of civilians. Following a meeting with the Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, to discuss the brewing war and trade, the president stuck to his common roots and took a dig at Obama for being the cause of it all.

He labeled Obama’s 2015 arms deal with Iran, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), as the “worst deal I’ve ever seen” and patted himself on the back, claiming that if he had never terminated the agreement in 2018, Iran would be “sitting with a massive nuclear weapon three years ago.” “I was very proud to have knocked out the Iran nuclear deal by President Barack Hussein Obama. That was a horrible, horrible, dangerous document,” Trump said.

“They would have nuclear weapons three years ago, and they would have used them.”

Trump continued the rhetoric in a post on his Truth Social app. “That was the most dangerous transaction we have ever entered into, and had it been allowed to stand, the World would be an entirely different place right now,” he wrote.

“You can blame Barack Hussein Obama and Sleepy Joe Biden. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP!”

However, experts and those involved praised the deal, which was supported by several world powers such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, China, and Russia.

U.S. Army veteran who worked in the Middle East, Asha Castlberry-Hernandez, said Obama’s Iran deal “worked.” “Even President Trump’s former Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State said they wanted to stay in because it was working. Iran was committed to the terms,” she explained, highlighting major benefits of Iran being committed to no longer developing its nuclear program, and easing tensions between the U.S. and Iran with the goal of diplomacy.

“After President Trump withdrew from the JCPAO (Iran Deal), the United States lost leverage to prevent Iran from building its first nuclear bomb.”

While Obama or Biden haven’t taken the time to respond to Trump’s verbal attacks, the president has continued to push that tensions may potentially heighten in Iran. According to Deadline, he told CNN’s Jake Tapper during a phone interview that a “big wave” against the Middle Eastern nation “hasn’t even happened.” “We haven’t even started hitting them hard,” Trump said.

“We’re knocking the crap out of them.”

Peep These Black-Owned Bakeries, That Turned Tradition Into Sweet Business, On National Pound Cake Day

Pound cake originated in the United Kingdom but was refined in the south during slavery

Pound cake originated as a dessert in the United Kingdom back in the 1700s but was refined during slavery and in southern kitchens, using the infamous recipe: 1 pound of butter, 1 pound of sugar, 1 pound of flour, and 1 pound of eggs (10). Hence, how the pound cake got its name.

Traditionally, pound cake is a notable dessert and comfort food prepared for families at family gatherings, church events, and Sunday dinners. In Black communities, it has served as a business opportunity for skillful bakers, who turn nostalgic recipes into fundraisers and, now these days, into scalable ventures. Over the years, bakers have reimagined pound cake recipes, making them their own. Cultural tradition has been transformed into sustainable economic power through strategic branding and e-commerce.

Black-owned bakeries across the country and through online stores are serving customers traditional pound cake recipes as premium brand-building products. On National Pound Cake Day, BLACK ENTERPRISE celebrates these entrepreneurs.

Walter Johnson Secures ‘Tendernism’ Trademark After Going Independent

Walter "Mr. Tendernism" Johnson is proud to announce himself as the official owner of the "Tendernism" trademark.

Walter Johnson, widely known on social media as “Mr. Tendernism” on social media, has announced that he is now the official owner of the “Tendernism” trademark.

The social media star, known for showcasing his signature fall-off-the-bone barbecue style, shared an Instagram update on March 3 about the “Tendernism” trademark he now owns.

Seated beside Kenneth Harris—an attorney who had previously filed two intent-to-use trademark applications for “Tendernism” in November 2025—Johnson explained that Harris agreed to transfer the mark after acknowledging he had no lawful commercial use of it, making Johnson the rightful owner.

“Things have been happening, God is good,” Johnson told Harris. “It wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for you. And now look at it. A long time coming.”

“You deserve it, you created it,” Harris said, calling him an inspiration to the community. He noted how much of an “honor” it was to begin the process of transferring the trademark to Johnson.

“Family, this moment means a lot to me,” Johnson wrote in the caption. “We started the process of bringing the Tendernism trademark home where it belongs. God is good, and I appreciate every one of y’all that’s been supporting this journey. Booyah!! 🍗🔥”

Johnson’s trademark update came a day after he posted a video confirming his departure from Destination Smokehouse, his former employer, which faced backlash after it was revealed the restaurant’s owner had filed a trademark for the “Tendernism” term Johnson originally coined. Now striking out on his own and building the brand independently, Johnson says he’s ready “to tendernize the world.”

“I’m not at Destination Smokehouse. I’m with Tendernism now,” Johnson declared. “I had to go on my own.”

Destination Smokehouse owner Nick Yepremian later responded to claims that Johnson was fired in a separate video, stating, “Walter was never asked to leave. The application to register the trademark for ‘Tendernism’ was not filed without his knowledge. Walter was an early source of inspiration for me, and the trademark was not filed without his knowledge.”

Former Hawks Player Trae Young Puts Atlanta Mansion Up For Sale

The home is listed for $8.17 million

Former Atlanta Hawks player Trae Young was traded to the Washington Wizards in January. The NBA player has now put his Atlanta mansion up for sale.

According to Mansion Global, Young, who was on the team for eight years before the transaction, has listed his home for $8.17 million.

He was drafted by the Hawks and has spent his entire career with the franchise, but he just recently purchased the property in July for $7.84 million.

The mansion, listed with Leigh and Michael Schiff of Christie’s International Realty in February, is an 11,000-square-foot home on a 2.5-acre lot located in the Sandy Springs neighborhood of Atlanta. The home was built in 2022 as a contemporary two-story home. It is a six-bedroom home which includes a saltwater pool, spa, sundeck, and covered dining area. Inside the house, there is a dual-kitchen setup that has a 10-foot waterfall island in the main kitchen, a primary room with a bay-windowed lounge, a turfed yard, and a four-car garage. The listing states that there is also a guest or staff suite that has a separate entrance.

ESPN reported that the Hawks had traded Young to the Wizards for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert on Jan. 7. Young, who has yet to play with the Wizards due to an injury, has had limited time on the basketball court this season. Young averaged 19.3 points, 8.9 assists, and 1.5 rebounds while playing 28 minutes per game (in 10 games) before being sidelined by the injury. He was shooting 41.5% from the field and 30.5% from 3-point range. Young has career averages of 25.2 points and 9.8 assists per game, leading the NBA in assists last season with 11.6 per game.

Earlier this season, he suffered a right MCL sprain, which has hampered his ability to play effectively. He is sidelined with a right quad contusion, which has kept him off the floor.

Ain’t Nothing Wrong With That! ‘Better Call Saul’ Actor Turns Amazon Delivery Driver

Before his role in 'Better Call Saul,' Love appeared in several television and film projects including a recurring role on 'Friday Night Lights' and an appearance in 'Independence Day: Resurgence.'

Actor John Christian Love, known for playing Ernesto “Ernie” on AMC’s Better Call Saul, revealed he works as an Amazon delivery driver as acting gigs have slowed.

Love shared the update in a Reddit post in an Amazon driver’s thread. Love explained that he had taken the job to make ends meet while continuing to pursue acting roles. The post expressed his solidarity with other workers.

“Just want y’all to know that as the actor who brought you the character ‘Ernesto/Ernie’ in Better Call Saul, that I too am out here delivering with you,” he wrote. “It sucks. But 1 delivery at a time.”

Love appeared in multiple episodes of Better Call Saul, the Emmy-nominated prequel to Breaking Bad that aired from 2015 to 2022. His character, Ernesto, was portrayed as a loyal employee at the law firm HHM and a friend to Jimmy McGill, played by Bob Odenkirk.

The actor said the series “wasn’t the breakout” he had hoped for and noted that acting work has slowed significantly since the show ended.

He also said a film project he worked on with actors Lily Gladstone and Bryan Cranston ran out of financing. The complication led to Love not being paid for his role. Despite the career setback, Love said he has not left acting behind and will continue in the film world by developing independent projects. “I haven’t given up on it, just really slow right now.”

Before his role in Better Call Saul, Love appeared in several television and film projects, including a recurring role on Friday Night Lights and appearances in the films Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and Independence Day: Resurgence

His experience is not isolated, as financial instability often affects working actors—even those who appear in extremely popular television shows. Actor Geoffrey Owens, best known for playing Elvin Tibideaux on The Cosby Show, has become an example of the plight of working actors. Owens first drew national attention in 2018 when photos surfaced showing him working at Trader Joe’s in New Jersey, prompting public debate about employment expectations for actors. In 2025, Owens was given new opportunities in television and film, including roles in Pappa’s House and A Merry Little Ex-Mas.

In 2025, Owens told Atlanta radio station V-103 that he continues to face financial challenges despite decades of work in television and film.

“Even today, right now, as we speak, I still struggle to make a living,” Owens said.

Disgraced Former DeKalb County Sheriff, Who Hired Opponent’s Killer, Has Died In Prison

Dorsey was in prison for several charges of murder, racketeering, and corruption.

Sidney Dorsey, a former DeKalb County Sheriff who was convicted of having his re-election opponent killed, has died.

Dorsey was serving a life sentence for ordering a hit on Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown after losing his re-election race to him in 2000. However, the 86-year-old died while behind bars at the Augusta State Medical Prison March 3.

WSB-TV first reported the news of Dorsey’s death, as confirmed by a Georgia Department of Corrections official. His original conviction made state and national headlines, as the former DeKalb County sheriff became one of the very criminals he once detained.

Brown was fatally shot outside his home Dec. 15, 2000, shortly after winning the run-off election against Dorsey. Brown had won on a campaign to uncover corruption within the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department. However, his promises were cut short as he was slain just weeks before his expected swearing-in.

Dorsey and two other assailants were convicted in July 2002 for conspiring and facilitating Brown’s murder. Dorsey was found guilty of ordering the hit to prevent him from investigating alleged corruption during his tenure. For the charges of murder, racketeering, violation of oath by a public officer, and theft, Dorsey received life in prison.

However, Dorsey did not admit to ordering the killing until years later. He reportedly confessed his crimes during a interview from prison in 2007, stating that he did so due to losing his re-election campaign. The recordings were not released until late last year, also obtained by the news outlet.

“I want someone to say, ‘Sidney, you are a murderer. You are accountable, you’re responsible.’ That’s what I want,” he said in the recording. “When all this is over and said and done, I want someone to look over here because, see, I haven’t totally reconciled the fact that Sidney, you are a murderer.”

When prompted by then-DeKalb County District Attorney Gwen Keyes Fleming and others about the murder-for-hire, Dorsey further explained his recollection of events.

“Yeah, in other words. I didn’t say ‘kill him.’ I used the word assassinate. But I didn’t, I’m not trying to get out of anything. I’m just trying to tell you the truth,” he responded.

Dorsey began his sentence in Georgia Diagnostic and Classification State Prison before transferring to the Augusta-based penitentiary, where he lived for the rest of his days. Dorsey died of natural causes.
