Arcis-HBCU Golf Championship Winners Include Florida A&M University, North Carolina A&T University, Miles College

The tourment took place from Feb. 21 to Feb. 23

The third annual Arcis-HBCU Golf Championship has produced three champions: the Florida A&M University Division I men, the North Carolina A&T University women, and the Miles College Division II men.

The third tournament, which ran from Feb. 21 to Feb. 23 at The Club at Weston Hills in Weston, Florida, featured 17 men’s and women’s teams, comprising a 95-player field, in a 54-hole team tournament. Taking home individual championships were the men’s Division I winner, Florida A&M’s Phalatphon Viboonviriyasakul, who defeated North Carolina Central’s Mateo Zolezzi. The women’s winner was North Carolina A&T’s Ekaterina Prokhorova, who won for the second straight year after she successfully defended her 2025 title. Miles College’s Adrian Raya took the men’s Division II individual after defeating teammate Braydon Moye and Godfrey Nsubuga of Winston-Salem State.

The teams that won the competitions all won by close scores, as the Men’s Division I defending champion Florida A&M beat Alabama State by two strokes; the North Carolina A&T women took the championship over Howard University, who took the title last year, by four strokes; and Miles won its contest over Winston-Salem State, in the Division II championship by only four strokes.

The sport of golf was the main attraction, but there were activities that students, coaches, and anyone in attendance could have benefited from.

Among the athletes, coaches, and corporate representatives, there were opportunities to network throughout the three-day event. One of the featured events was the HBCU Alumni and Divine Nine Challenge. College alums, members of Black sororities and fraternities, as well as athletes and entertainment celebrities, were able to participate in golf and social events. Student-athletes were given a chance to attend a career session there, along with off-course opportunities.

On Saturday, Arcis Golf, which hosted the tournament, held a “Club-in-Hand Golf Clinic” for people from the Rita & Rick Case Boys & Girls Club of Broward County who were golfing for the first time. At this session, people were taught the fundamentals of driving, chipping, and putting by three PGA professionals from the South Florida PGA Section.

Near-Blind Rohingya Refugee Dies After Being Left Miles From Buffalo Home By Border Patrol

US Border Patrol is facing renewed backlash following the death of a near-blind refugee who was reportedly left miles from his Buffalo, New York, home in below-freezing temperatures.

The United States Border Protection is facing renewed backlash after a nearly blind Rohingya refugee from Myanmar was found dead in Buffalo, New York, days after authorities reportedly left him miles from his home following his release from a county jail.

Many are expressing outrage over the death of Nurul Amin Shah Alam, 56, whose body was discovered by police in Buffalo on Feb. 24, Al Jazeera reports. Shah Alam had been missing since Feb. 19, when Border Patrol agents reportedly dropped him off at a coffee shop after his release from a county jail.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection claims that Shah Alam was offered a ride, “which he chose to accept to a coffee shop, determined to be a warm, safe location near his last known address, rather than be released directly from the Border Patrol station.” However, surveillance footage reportedly shows the shop was closed when he was dropped off in below-freezing temperatures.

Border Patrol claimed the shop was open. The doors, however were locked. Agents never notified family or lawyers. Shah Alam died 5 days later.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed that Shah Alam entered the United States as a refugee in December 2024 and “was not amenable to removal,” meaning he could not be deported. Mohamad Faisal, one of Shah Alam’s children, said the family is Rohingya refugees from Arakan State, officially known as Rakhine State, in Myanmar, and noted that as a refugee, his father was unable to read, write, or use electronic devices.

He added that neither the family nor their attorney was informed where authorities had left his father following his release from jail. Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan has since spoken out, calling Shah Alam’s death preventable and “deeply disturbing and a dereliction of duty by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.”

“A vulnerable man — nearly blind and unable to speak English — was left alone on a cold winter night with no known attempt to leave him in a safe, secure location,” Ryan said, adding that CBP’s behavior in the incident was “unprofessional and inhumane.”

Shah Alam’s death has intensified mounting concerns over the treatment of immigrants in ICE and CBP custody. At least six immigrants have died while in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody since the start of the year. A spokesperson for the Buffalo Police Department said homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

Several members of Congress have called for a federal inquiry, including Grace Meng, who described the situation as a “shocking breach of responsibility and basic humanity by federal enforcement.” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul also demanded accountability and an independent investigation, stating that “a blind father was released from federal custody and left alone on the street to find his way home. He never made it back to his family.”

“No one should disappear at the hands of the government,” she added.

Black Woman Targeted In NYC Hate Crime By Duo, One Wearing MAGA Hat, ‘You’re My Slave’

A Black woman in New York City survived an alleged hate crime after a man reportedly wearing a MAGA hat attempted to set her boots on fire.

Two men have been arrested in connection with an alleged anti-Black hate crime in which a woman was subjected to a racial slur and nearly set on fire by a suspect wearing a MAGA hat.

Michael Santiago, 31, and Michael James, 33, were taken into custody on Feb. 26 and face multiple hate crime charges, including attempted assault, criminal mischief, and menacing, PIX 11 reports. The charges stem from a Feb. 19 incident in which the two men, one seen wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, allegedly set a 54-year-old woman’s boots on fire while making anti-Black remarks near West 26th Street and Seventh Avenue shortly before 3 p.m.

The incident, captured on disturbing video, reportedly began after the woman pushed away a man wearing the MAGA hat when he attempted to kiss her, while the other suspect appeared to record the encounter, authorities said. As she tried to walk away, the men allegedly blocked her path and used a lighter to ignite her boots.

“You’re my slave,” the man can be seen telling the woman.

“You’re a slave to my blackness,” she replied.

The man then allegedly asked if he could kiss her boots, and she agreed, pulling out her phone to record the moment. Instead of kissing the boots, however, he is seen using an object to set them on fire.

“Kiss me,” he told her.

“I would never kiss you,” she said.

After releasing surveillance images and seeking the public’s help, police were able to identify and locate the two suspects, leading to their arrests. In addition to attempted assault, criminal mischief, and menacing, the men were also charged with arson and criminal tampering.

Judge Says IRS Broke Law Over 42,000 Times By Giving ICE Taxpayer Info For Immigration Enforcement

Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly said in her decision that the agency violated IRS Code 6103, which is reportedly one of the strictest confidentiality laws in federal statutes.

A federal judge ruled Thursday that the IRS broke the law by disclosing confidential taxpayer information approximately 43,695 times to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly said the IRS erroneously shared the taxpayer information of people with the Department of Homeland Security and immigration officials as part of a controversial agreement to share information on immigrants under the Trump administration’s priority to deport people here illegally in the United States.

According to the Associated Press, the judge’s finding was based on a declaration filed by Dottie Romo, the IRS’s chief risk and control officer. The declaration revealed that the IRS provided DHS officials with information on approximately 47,000 of the 1.28 million people that ICE requested. In most cases, ICE provided additional address information in violation of privacy rules intended to protect taxpayer data.

Judge Kollar-Kotelly said in her decision that the agency violated IRS Code 6103, which is reportedly one of the strictest confidentiality laws in federal statutes.

“The IRS not only failed to ensure that ICE’s request for confidential taxpayer address information met the statutory requirements, but this failure led the IRS to disclose confidential taxpayer addresses to ICE in situations where ICE’s request for that information was patently deficient,” she wrote.

IRS and DHS Enter Immigration Agreement Using Taxpayer Information

Last April, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem signed an agreement that would allow ICE to submit names and addresses of immigrants living in the United States illegally. The agencies would cross-verify information against tax records. It was an agreement that led to the resignation of the then-acting IRS commissioner. Several ongoing cases challenge the IRS-DHS agreement.

Those who criticize the agreement face an uphill battle. Earlier this week, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit declined to issue a preliminary injunction for an immigrants’ rights group suing the federal government to stop the agreement.

Judge Harry T. Edwards wrote in his ruling that nonprofit groups are “unlikely to succeed on the merits of their claims” since the IRS privacy statute doesn’t cover the information the agencies are sharing, WSLS reports.

Football Analyst Tony Dungy May Not Be Back On NBC’s ‘Football Night In America’

The Pro Football Hall of Famer has been on the program for 17 seasons

Former NFL player and head coach, Tony Dungy, now a sports analyst on NBC, reportedly won’t be back as a regular contributor on Football Night in America.

According to The Athletic, after being on the football program for 17 seasons, NBC, in plans to shake up the show, could oust the long-time football stalwart. Sources close to the show have speculated that, although no final decisions have been made and Dungy has not been contacted, there is a small possibility that the network could change its mind. But the network wants to make changes.

There is also a chance that Dungy could be given a reduced role or the title of “emeritus,” similar to the roles given to past network analysts Bob Costas and Al Michaels. The network has declined to comment on its plans.

Other analysts and people on the Football Night in America staff include former NFL players Devin McCourty, Jason Garrett, Chris Simms, and Rodney Harrison; along with host Maria Taylor; NFL insider Mike Florio; fantasy analyst Matthew Berry; reporter Jac Collinsworth; and statistician Steve Kornacki.

The contracts of several studio analysts expired after the Super Bowl ended, leaving things up in the air regarding who may be brought back or what direction the network is heading for the show.

The 70-year-old Dungy has been involved in football for most of his life and played his collegiate career at Minnesota (1973–1976), then played in the NFL for three seasons (playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, and New York Giants), winning a Super Bowl in 1973 with the Steelers. After his playing days were over, he went into coaching and won another Super Bowl when he led the Indianapolis Colts past the Chicago Bears in 2007. He coached for several teams, including the Minnesota Vikings, the Steelers, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Colts.

Dungy was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.

Colorado Buffaloes Make History With 3 Black Coaches

The school now has a Black head coach, a Black defensive coordinator, and a Black offensive coordinator

Several coaching changes on the Colorado Buffaloes’ staff have led to the university having a Black head coach, a Black defensive coordinator, and a Black offensive coordinator — a total of three Black coaches for the first time in the school’s football program.

According to USA Today, as head coach Deion Sanders prepares for his fourth football season, he is losing last season’s defensive coordinator, Robert Livingston, to the NFL, where the Denver Broncos have hired him as an assistant coach. Replacing Livingston with new linebackers coach Chris Marve created a trio of Black coaches on staff to achieve this feat.

Brennan Marion, the team’s offensive coordinator, is one of the three Black coaches.

There are 13 Black head coaches in NCAA college football this year, but none of them have offensive or defensive coordinators who are also Black, according to research from USA Today Sports. Stanford had a Black head coach, David Shaw, a Black offensive coordinator, Pep Hamilton, and a Black defensive coordinator, Derek Mason, in 2012. In 2024, Syracuse had two Black coordinators under its Black head coach, Fran Brown.

However, Colorado is the only major college school to have hired at least four non-interim Black head coaches, yet this is the first time it has had Black offensive and defensive coordinators at the same time.

Now that Livingston is leaving the school, based on the terms of his contract, he owes Colorado $160,000 to break his contract and take an assistant coaching job in the NFL.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp resigned this week as an assistant coach on Sanders’s coaching staff.

Last year, just two years into his contract, Colorado rewarded Sanders by giving him a five-year, $54 million contract after he transformed the football program from a struggling team into a playoff contender. As Sanders earns a little more than $10 million a year, he is among the top 10 highest-paid coaches in the nation. He initially coached at Jackson State University before Colorado hired him to be the school’s head football coach.

Jasmine Crockett Scores An Endorsement From Cardi B Who Urged Voters To ‘Please Vote For My Sister’

Crockett welcomed the endorsement, reposting the video with the “Bodak Yellow” rapper’s famous “Okurrr” line.

While entertaining fans during her sold-out tour, Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B took some time to address the important issue of early voting, endorsing Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett as the candidate who will fight for all in Texas.

Cardi, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, took to her Instagram account, with 164 million followers, to highlight why Crockett should be the primary candidate for the Texas U.S. Senate seat.

“Early voting is happening right now in Texas, and we need Jasmine Crockett to win. She is running for U.S. Senate, and if you want someone who is going to fight for your rights, you want someone who’s going to fight for your community, if you want someone that’s going to go up there and represent you and represent your issues, please vote for my sister Jasmine Crockett,” she said.

“Because one thing about it, she’s going to fight her best, she’s going to fight forever. She has to, so your voice and your problems can be heard. Vote right now. This counts so much.”

The seat, currently held by GOP Sen. John Cornyn, is a hot-ticket ballot, with Crockett and state Rep. James Talarico eyeing to turn the Lone Star state blue. Republican Rep. Wesley Hunt and Attorney General Ken Paxton are running against Cornyn, which is seemingly causing some concern for the party, raising feelings of potential defeat, contingent on who wins the Democratic primary.

According to Politico, Crockett and Talarico have Senate Republicans shaken by the possibility of being forced to foot a hefty bill that would be better spent on other pivotal battleground races in North Carolina, Georgia, and Michigan, which hold the key to taking control of the Senate.

“Honestly, if you look at the polling in a general election setting, I don’t think it’s outside the realm of possibility that the seat [flips], depending on who the Democrats nominate,” Majority Leader John Thune, who endorsed Cornyn, said.

Paxton doesn’t seem to be bothered. He inserted himself into hip-hop’s business by responding to Cardi B’s endorsement, saying he is “team Nicki Minaj,” known as a constant feuder with the “Am I The Drama?” rapper, and labeling himself as President Donald Trump’s “number one fan.”

Snoop Dogg And Ice Cube Allege Fraud By Former Business Partner In Disputed Merch Deal

Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube are pushing back against fraud allegations brought by their former business partner, Westside Merchandising.

Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube are pushing back against a former business partner who has taken legal action against the West Coast hip-hop icons over a disputed merchandise deal.

In a newly filed lawsuit, Snoop and Cube allege that Westside Merchandising misrepresented its business capabilities during licensing negotiations to persuade their rap supergroup, Mount Westmore — which also includes Too Short and E-40 — to sign with them instead of a larger merchandising company, TMZ reported.

According to the complaint, Westside Merchandising allegedly claimed it could generate substantial revenue through retail partnerships and would not rely solely on concert merchandise sales. However, Snoop and Cube say the company failed to provide proper accounting. The reports they did receive allegedly showed $808,000 in concert merch sales, more than $90,000 from retail stores, and roughly $13,000 in e-commerce revenue.

While the artists received a significant advance, they claim Westside still owes them hundreds of thousands of dollars under the agreement. They are seeking unspecified damages in the lawsuit.

The latest filing follows a lawsuit Westside Merchandising brought against Mount Westmore in November 2024, alleging breach of contract. The company claimed the group agreed to let Westside handle all merchandise production for a planned 60-date tour, but that the full tour never materialized and only a limited number of shows took place. Westside further alleged it paid more than $1.3 million under the agreement, accusing the rappers of failing to uphold their end of the deal.

Westside has since fired back at the lawsuit, accusing Snoop and Cube of fabricating claims to sidestep financial obligations tied to what the company describes as its own fraud and misconduct.

“The countersuit is full of falsehoods and fabrication, and reeks of desperation,” Westside’s lawyer, John Fowler, said.

“The purpose is clearly to distract from their own fraud and contractual breaches, which are outlined very clearly in our own amended complaint. To date, the other side has lost every motion they’ve brought in this case, and they are trying to cover up the mounting losses by filing a frivolous claim.”

Fowler continued, “The case is simple: the other side defrauded my client out of over $1.3 million, and caused many millions more in damages for failing to perform the services they promised. The Court has repeatedly denied the other side’s attempts to shield itself from basic discovery, even accusing the opposing lawyers of ‘borderline insubordination’ on the record. We look forward to trying this case.”

Both cases remain ongoing.

DoorDash Deliverer Seen On Camera Asking 12-Year-Old Boy If He Is ‘Taken’ After Calling Him ‘Beautiful’

The man has been idenitfied as a registered sex offender

A North Carolina man, delivering a DoorDash order, was seen on surveillance video telling a 12-year-old boy that he was “beautiful” and asking if he was “taken” when the boy opened the door to get the food.

According to a Facebook post by the child’s mother, Andria Frazier, she showed the video on her page, asking if anyone recognized the man who made the delivery. She stated that the instructions for the order clearly said he was to leave it at the door, but the man is seen waiting for someone to answer the door before he seemingly makes a pass at the 12-year-old.

“Please watch this video and let me know if anyone can recognize him (door dasher!!!!!) This overgrown, nasty butt MAN is talking to my 12-year-old SON!!

“And mind you, the directions on my delivery clearly say leave at the door!! He waited purposely!!! Be careful!! This sick world preys on our children!!!”

According to The NC Beat, the man seen in the video is a registered sex offender, and DoorDash has started an investigation.

The media outlet identified the man as 34-year-old Giavontae Deangelis Archie, of Winston-Salem, who, in 2025, was convicted of sexual battery involving a woman 18 or older and is required to remain registered on North Carolina’s sex offender registry for 10 years. Public records reveal that Archie was convicted in September.

Frazier told the media outlet that people contacted her right away, identifying the man as Archie.

She also stated that DoorDash informed her that the DoorDash account Archie used to make the delivery is not registered to him, but to a female’s name. They also told her that an internal investigation has been started. Frazier has been in contact with law enforcement, but no new charges have been announced as of yet.

Former VP Kamala Harris ‘Might’ Run For President In 2028

Harris finally gave an answer to what’s on the minds of voters ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

The first Black woman Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, finally answered what’s on voters’ minds ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

“I haven’t decided,” Harris said during a conversation with podcaster and author Sharon McMahon. “I might.”

The question has been on the minds of several voters since her loss to President Donald J. Trump in 2024, resurfacing after she revived her KamalaHQ social media accounts, sending social media into a spiral. When McMahon suggested that her book, “107 Days,” was related to a potential run, Harris waved it off, saying the book was simply about a chapter in her ever-growing story.

“The book was about a specific period in time,” she said.

“There was no agenda beyond what we’ve discussed already, which is just sharing with people the reality of the experience and hopefully allowing people to see something of themselves.”

The former U.S. Vice President has spoken several times about what she believes contributed to her loss, including “time and misinformation” on important issues like affordability.

While Trump claimed he “won” the battle on inflation during his Feb. 24 State of the Union address, the former prosecutor says that was something he put on day one of his campaign — and lied.

“Mis- and disinformation about who actually had a plan about affordability, and you know, frankly I think one of the big issues that impacted the outcome of the election was my opponent told people on day one he was going to lower prices, and he lied,” Harris said, adding that she is still “very concerned about mis- and disinformation writ large,” according to The Hill.

Hopefully, that will change, as voters have floated the names of other potential Democratic presidential candidates, including Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, as frontrunners.

Being publicly supportive of each other, Newsom recently spoke to CNN about the possibility of their political careers eventually intersecting, with Harris opting out of running for California’s next governor to replace Newsom. The outspoken leader calls Harris “a friend” and said, “I’ve never gotten in the way of her ambition,” and he “doesn’t imagine he would in the future.”

“That’s fate…you can only control what you can control,” he said.

While neither leader has released official campaigns, one thing Harris wants Americans to do in the meantime is come together to forge “sustaining connections in a way that reminds us of the power of a democracy,” that she describes as both strong and fragile.

“Our democracy, it’s like there’s a duality in its nature. On the one hand, when a democracy is intact and strong, it is so powerful and strong in a way that it protects the rights and liberties of its people. It’s very powerful in that way,” Harris said.

“It is also very fragile. It is only as powerful as our willingness to fight for it. And so fight we will because fight we must.”
