Southwest Airlines Procedure Updates Close Wheelchair Boarding Loophole

Nixing the wheelchair and seat selection loophole sharpens Southwest's boarding efficiency,

Southwest Airlines prepares to end its long-standing wheelchair boarding advantage as the carrier shifts to assigned seating early next year.

The move comes after years of advantage to passengers who request wheelchair assistance primarily for early boarding privileges. Although federal rules require airlines to accommodate mobility requests without challenge, Southwest’s open-seating model made preboarding a valuable perk. The upcoming switch to assigned seats removes much of the incentive for travelers looking to bypass standard boarding groups, View From the Wing reported.

Southwest’s leadership intends for the assigned-seating system to help reduce misuse of preboarding. The change will still adhere to legally mandated disability accommodations. Southwest’s procedures for passengers who need mobility support will remain in place. However, since the airline will now operate with assigned seating, the accommodations will no longer offer first-choice seats.

Southwest’s move reflects both operational concerns and public pressure. Over the years, passengers without accommodations have complained about the increased number of wheelchair users. The number of passengers requesting wheelchair assistance has increased significantly across the airline industry in recent years.  While other airlines do not have choice seating, wheelchair assistance allows passengers to bypass lines at TSA and boarding.

Nixing the wheelchair and seat selection loophole sharpens Southwest’s boarding efficiency. Additionally, the airline has added a new mobility aid procedure for safety. Southwest policy now requires removable lithium batteries found in mobility aids, such as mobile wheelchairs, to be carried into the plane cabin. Devices with batteries above 300 watt-hours will be reviewed for compliance by Jan. 11, 2026. These measures aim to strike a balance between passenger access to travel for people with disabilities and growing concerns about fire risks linked to lithium batteries.

Southwest has framed the transition to assigned seats as part of a broader modernization plan. The airline will be able to track seat assignments more accurately and better identify disruptive passengers. Identifying potential liabilities has been an occasional challenge under the open-seat model. That change aligns with the carrier’s efforts to update aircraft cabins, refine boarding efficiency, and improve the customer experience, following two years marked by staffing shortages and shifting travel patterns.

Chicago Mother And 9-Year-Old Son Recovering After Brutal Attack From School-Aged Children

A Chicago community has come together to support a mother and her children after a video showed them being brutally attacked by a group of school-aged kids.

A Chicago community is coming together in support of a mother seen in a disturbing, now-viral video, being viciously attacked along with her two children by a group of elementary school students.

Videos circulating on social media on Nov. 16 show 33-year-old Corshawnda Hatter walking home from Orville T. Bright Elementary School with her 9-year-old son and young daughter around 3:10 p.m. in Chicago’s South Deering neighborhood when a group of school-aged children approached and physically attacked them, Fox 32 Chicago reports.

“I asked my kids to come to the next side of the street with me so they wouldn’t get jumped, so we kept walking. They followed us all the way there, they hit my son first, dragged me in the grass, and pulled my baby’s hair,” Hatter said.

https://twitter.com/4ortunefame/status/1990898401899151726

Both victims were transported to Trinity Hospital and listed in serious condition. Police report that no arrests have been made. Since the attack, the local community has rallied around the mother, demanding accountability from the parents of the children involved.

“I’m trying to get justice for my son. I’m thankful to everybody that came out here to support me,” Hatter said.

The mother stated that her son had faced bullying at Orville T. Bright Elementary School for more than two years, but the administration failed to protect him. By Nov. 17, dozens gathered outside the school, chanting “No justice, no peace,” and demanding accountability for the children responsible.

“The video was horrible,” said Illinois State Sen. Willie Preston (16th District). “The video was disgusting, and the video was a symptom of something that’s been going on for a long time. We haven’t held these kids accountable. We haven’t held these parents accountable for the violent actions that their children are doing.”

Amid public outrage, some parents of the children involved in the attack have taken to social media to compel their kids to apologize and show remorse. However, the trauma remains, leaving Hatter and her children deeply affected by the horrific incident.

“I can’t sleep because I wake up in the middle of the night with that vision in my head of my son calling my name to help him, and I couldn’t do nothing for him. That really hurt me the most,” Hatter said while speaking outside the school.

Both Preston and Hatter have requested a meeting with school administrators following the attack. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson expressed that he was “deeply disturbed” after viewing the video, while community members are demanding criminal charges against the children involved.

“The action that needs to be taken: the parents needs to be held accountable,” said Shanice Davis, who attended the rally. “Charges should be pressed, and these kids should be expelled from school.”

Atlanta Continues Reign Of Top High School Marching Bands, Fueling HBCU Band Pipelines

Atlanta Continues Reign Of Top High School Marching Bands, Fueling HBCU Band Pipelines

The city has some of the top high school marching bands in the nation.

Yet again, Atlanta is proving itself as the go-to city for Black cultural traditions.

The Southern hotspot continues its reign as the host city of the top high school marching bands in the country. Westlake High School, located in the southwest part of Atlanta, currently ranks at No. 1 in the 2025 ESPN’s Red Lobster Band of the Year for its Metro Atlanta high school division.

According to HBCU Gameday, the ranking is based on criteria such as Musicality, Pictures/Drill & Design, Drum Majors, and Auxiliaries. These essential components of a competitive marching band and showcase typically begin in high school squads. Many members often transition to collegiate-level performance, mainly at HBCUs across the country.

Westlake sat at the top of the rankings for the second month in a row with 581 total points. Led by band director Cedric Young, the school band also has the chance to compete for the Red Lobster Band of the Year title.

“Being ranked No. 1 two months in a row is a reflection of the hard work, discipline, and heart our students bring to Westlake every single day,” Young said in a statement. “Our band is more than a halftime show –- we are a classroom, a family, and a voice for our community, and we are honored that America is hearing that voice.”

Judges will select the top 2 HBCU and high school bands to compete at the show in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. At the December showdown, they will fight for the coveted title of best band in their competition level.

As for the Metro Atlanta High School rankings, Jonesboro High School follows with a little over 549 points. Closely behind are New Manchester, Tri-Cities, and Southwest DeKalb High School, all still above the 500 point marker. The latter two hold widely known marching band programs. Given this, they will aim to push through the rankings to further their legacy.

Marching bands are more than a sports tradition; they are a pillar of HBCU culture. As the pipeline between high schools and HBCU marching bands strengthens, Atlanta has become a hub for this next generation.

For those wanting to catch the final competition, they can attend or watch it live on  ESPN3 and ESPN+.

Rolling Loud Owner Confirms Offering Drake ‘Millions Of Dollars’ But Rapper Always Declines

'I send an offer to Drake every year,' said Tariq Cherif

While appearing on a livestream with Adin Ross and DJ Akademiks, Tariq Cherif, co-founder of Rolling Loud, revealed that although Drake has yet to headline the festival, they have made him their “max offer,” which he has always declined.

While Cherif was talking to the streamers on kick.com, Ross told him that Drake has to perform at the popular music festival at least once, to which the co-founder responded that they’d tried to get Drake for Rolling Loud, but to no avail, despite the high offer they’d made.

“Yo, facts!” he says in response to Ross’ request. “I send an offer to Drake every year.”

When asked how much, without giving an exact number, Cherif said, “We send him our max offer, millions of dollars.”

https://twitter.com/AdinReports/status/1990221525656707509

Cherif talked about that offer less than a week before the festival heads to India for the first time. Rolling Loud India will take place Nov. 22 and Nov. 23 at Loud Park in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. Central Cee and Wiz Khalifa will headline the first night, while Karan Aujla and Don Tolliver headline the second evening.

Meanwhile, Drake, who has been busier in the courts than in the studio, spoke to Complex via email and expressed his feelings about rolling out an album when he embarks on a new project.

“I was asked by a creative partner what I love and hate about rolling out an album,” Drake wrote. “I expressed that I love the opportunity for a clean slate of thoughts and excitement and messaging when it comes to the music. What I hate is the redundancy of this formulaic approach that’s ingrained in our brains from early label days. Single, video, single, video, album cover post, etc.”

This is why he has taken a different approach with his upcoming album, Iceman, by doing some livestreaming.

“I have been dying to act and have been dying for a challenge,” he stated. “The game is extremely calm seas right now. Nobody is rocking any boat on the water, and so once we discussed a live stream rollout, it just sounded like the perfect mix of risk and reward for me.”

When the project drops, it will be his ninth studio album.

D4vd Is Now An Official Suspect In Murder Case Of Missing 15-Year-Old Girl

The ongoing investigation has placed the TikTok star and singer as a suspect in the 15-year-old's murder.

D4vd has become an official suspect in the murder investigation of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

D4vd’s involvement in the case has gained national headlines as the internet spread rumors of his alleged relationship with the underage Rivas Hernandez. In September, her decomposing body was found dismembered in the back of an impounded Tesla registered in his name. It appeared to have stayed in the cars for weeks.

Upon the news breaking, D4vd, real name David Anthony Burke, initially said he would cooperate with authorities while on his “Withered” world tour. However, ABC News reports that he has been listed as a suspect as the investigation wages on. The 20-year-old entertainer initially continued the tour before cancelling all shows due to the issue.

The outlet says that multiple people are likely to have taken part in Rivas Hernandez’s body dismemberment and disposal. She had been declared missing from Lake Elsinore in Riverside County since 2024.

However, authorities do not expect to make any arrests until the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determines a cause of death. Her body was found Sept. 8, two days after the Tesla was towed to an impound lot.

However, in the weeks following her body’s discovery, several TikTok posts went viral trying to connect Celeste to D4vd, including the reveal of an unreleased song named after her and videos alleging she was backstage at his shows.

D4vd is reportedly no longer cooperating with authorities as they continue to investigate what happened to the teen. His lawyers have also refused to respond to requests for comments.

D4vd first became popular on TikTok for his music, including his viral hit “Here With Me.” He has around 3.9 million followers on the platform.

However, he has not posted to the account since before Rivas Hernandez’s body was recovered. The European leg of his world tour was canceled before D4vd was listed as a suspect.

Fannie Mae Investigators Find No ‘Convincing Evidence’ Against Letitia James

James’s legal team introduced new documents in court citing internal communications from Fannie Mae officials.

Senior fraud investigators at Fannie Mae asserted there is no clear evidence to support claims of mortgage fraud by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

James’s legal team introduced new documents in court, citing internal communications from Fannie Mae officials. The filings allege that the team was repeatedly made aware that the evidence to support the claims lacked substance.

According to the filing, internal communications from June 2025 show concern from Fannie Mae’s Director of Mortgage Fraud, Sean Soward, and the vice president of financial crimes, Jennifer Horne.

Soward wrote that the case was “certainly not clear and convincing evidence” of fraud, Politico reported.

The filing also suggests that the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) appointee, Bill Pulte, was directed by Donald Trump to pursue the criminal investigation against James.

James’ lawyers argue that Pulte, in bringing the indictment, improperly exercised his authority.

“Director Pulte abused his position as FHFA Director to direct an investigation of AG James, outside of the normal processes and rules governing the agency, despite being told repeatedly that there was no evidence of wrongdoing,” the filing stated.

Furthermore, questions about how prosecutors obtained access to James’ nonpublic mortgage files remain unanswered. James’ attorneys say Pulte sent a private letter summarizing “exact calculations” to Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan shortly before she brought the indictment.

Halligan later presented the case to a Virginia grand jury after the previous U.S. attorney declined to move forward, citing insufficient evidence.

During a press conference, James responded to the claims, calling out the Trump administration for its “desperate attempt” to attack her. Additionally, James stated the case against her is an example of the “weaponization of our justice system.”

James, an elected Democrat, is accused of bank fraud and making a false statement to a financial institution. Prosecutors claim James’s Virginia residence was falsely represented as her primary residence to fraudulently obtain a home loan. Her lawyers argue the case represents government misconduct and are asking a federal judge to dismiss the charges.

As the judge weighs the request to dismiss the charges, many are seeking to gauge the extent to which political pressure may have played a role in the investigation. For now, James continues to deny wrongdoing and remains focused on clearing her name as the case progresses.

LeBron James Is Coping With Sciatica As His NBA Season Gets Underway

'If you ain't never had it, and people are making jokes about it, I pray you never get it. It's not fun.'

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James spoke about his experience with sciatica before making a historic debut in his first NBA game this season.

According to ESPN, James told reporters during practice Nov. 17, that he had suffered from sciatica two years ago and that “it’s not fun” having to deal with it. According to Cleveland Clinic, sciatica is nerve pain from an injury or irritation of the sciatic nerve. The condition prevented James from playing this season thus far, but he returned to the court Nov. 18, making history as the first player in NBA history to play in 23 seasons.

“If you ain’t never had it, and people are making jokes about it, I pray you never get it,” James said. “It’s not fun.”

“You wake up one day and you hope that when you step down from the bed that you don’t feel it. You go to bed at night, and you hope that when you’re in the bed that you don’t feel it. So, I’ve been doing pretty good with it as of late.”

The Laker did state that he had maintained a positive mindset throughout, reaching the point of returning to the court.

“There’s a lot of exercises and a lot of mobility things and a lot of things you can do to help it. So, I’m just keeping a positive mindset.”

After participating in his first practice of the season, he stated that he has to get his lungs back in shape before being on the court again. He needs to get back in game shape to help the team, although they’ve done extremely well in his absence (11-3).

“My lungs feel like a newborn baby,” James said. “That’s the most important thing. I got to get my lungs back up to a grown man. My voice is already gone. One day back, barking out calls and assignments and stuff, getting my voice working again. [There will] be a lot of tea and rest tonight.”

James made his debut and had a double-double to start his season when he scored 11 points and dished out 12 assists in the victory over the Utah Jazz, 140-125. During the game, he did surpass sharp-shooting Indiana Pacer legend, Reggie Miller, when he drained two three-point shots to move into sixth place for the most three-pointers made in NBA history, according to NBA.com.

Usher Sues Longtime Friend Producer Brian-Michael Cox For Failed Property Deal

The lawsuit is over an the defendants' attorney not paying Usher back for a recalled loan.

Usher has sued Brian-Michael Cox and other business partners over a failed property purchase meant for a restaurant deal.

Usher’s legal team filed a lawsuit Nov. 14, claiming that he is owed nearly $5 million in compensation for the botched deal. The lawsuit, obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, detailed that he lent Cox and fellow industry professionals Keith Thomas and Charles Hughes $1.7 million in January for a restaurant in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood.

The money was meant to go toward a property worth $6.3 million that would later turn into a restaurant and lounge called “Homage ATL.” However, Usher claims he never received the money back once the purchase of the property fell through. His legal team says that only $1 million was returned to the “Superstar” artist.

While he opted not to invest in the restaurant itself, Usher did loan the money to the three men to secure the property. However, he recalled the loan once the purchase never came into fruition. The 47-year-old says $700,000 of his money remains unaccounted for. Now, Usher asks for that figure or more for each of the seven claims against the defendants.

He also looks to the men’s lawyer, Alcide Honoré, to admit to the loan’s misuse.

“Honoré all but admitted that the [Usher] Raymond loan balance was disbursed when he stated that returning that balance was ‘not that easy’ because plaintiff’s funds had been deployed for ‘other purposes,’” the lawsuit says.

As for Cox, Thomas, and Hughes, he has accused them of contract breach and unjust enrichment. Cox has released a statement to Instagram, clearing the rumors on his and Usher’s allegedly strained relationship.

“Regarding today’s news,” began the music producer. “I’ve learned a lot recently about being careful with who you choose to invest in a business with. No matter how small the investment…”

Cox went on to defend his name. The 47-year-old called he legal matter “disappointing,” while maintaining his status as a “passive” party in the business dealings. He also emphasized that he and Usher remain friends throughout the legal process, promising no bad blood between the two. The duo previously worked together to produce some Usher’s biggest hits, including “Burn” and “U Got It Bad.”

“My legal team has also advised me of a lawsuit involving a company where I am only a passive minority shareholder. I was not a participant in that business transaction and have no involvement in the ongoing legal process. While I’m unable to share more details right now, I want to make one thing absolutely clear: my 27-year friendship with @usher remains fully intact,” he continued.

Usher, on the other hand, has yet to confirm the same. According to his legal team, he wants the millions in compensation plus damages to cover his legal fees.
