Candace Owens Flamed Online After Labeling Fani Willis A “Ghetto Superstar”

This lady has nerve.....

Critics feel a way about Candace Owens’ comments on Fulton County District Attorney General Fani Willis.

Posting an episode of The Candace Owens Podcast titled “Ghetto Superstar” on Twitter, the conservative media host threw shots at Willis as the pundit opened her show criticizing the attorney’s relationship with Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade. Owens also broke down her special hearing testimony.

As an avid opponent of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), she said Willis is now her biggest argument against DEI.

“Maybe you didn’t believe me a couple of weeks ago when I said DEI policies are harmful because obviously what’s going to happen is to fulfill certain quotas to make sure that we look good and look like we’re all different. We were going to suspend intelligence. You were going to be willing to suspend actually hiring people that are better qualified for jobs,” the host said.

“And I now feel certain that the biggest argument against DEI is Fani Willis.”

After Owens called on VH1 to hire Willis and Wade as cast members for the reality show Love & Hip-Hop, critics of Owens’ banter jumped at the opportunity to defend Willis, while others jumped at the opportunity to support Owens’ arguments. “Way to give others racist rhetoric to spew… on brand,” @larmistad tweeted.

Another pointed out that Owens herself is a product of DEI, stating if white people didn’t support her, she wouldn’t get far. “Girl, if it wasn’t for the white people that support you, you would literally be nobody because a lot of black people don’t care who you are, and others don’t even know who you are,” @rhondawoods761 said.

However, some Black women thought Willis could have done better. “Listen, Fani’s testimony was cringe and embarrassing,” @only_i_can wrote, according to Sports Keeda. “She was all over the place and using her emotions to deflect from her confirmed actions. She messed up big time, but y’all don’t wanna hear it.”

Attacking Willis by using Black stereotypical rhetoric, an Instagramer using the handle @f3lipesanti pointed out the irony of Owens’ claims. “A college dropout called a law school graduate and state bar-certified lawyer ‘ghetto’ because she is herself and refuses to assimilate/code switch to yt normalcy,” they wrote. “I admire Fani for being unapologetically Black. Candace stays tap dancing for massa in her best yt women cosplay voice.

Owens even supported accusations of Willis being a corrupt prosecutor, referring to a video of MAGA supporter and former New York State gubernatorial candidate Derrick Gibson. In the viral clip while wearing a “N***** 4 Trump” shirt, Gibson speaks about how Black men have been falsely accused of charges for “decades” and says is a “puppet for the white liberal.”

“She went to school with my sister, she full of s***, she was full of s*** then,” Gibson said.

It’s not out of character for Owens to downplay Black women but to uplift Black men. In early February 2024, Owens celebrated rapper Ye’s new album Vultures 1, which was pulled off streaming platforms for unauthorized sample usage. But weeks prior, she called Grammy-nominated artist Ice Spice’s song, “Think U The Sh*t (Fart),” a sign that “we’ve fallen as a society.”

Family Of Entrepreneurs Open Black-Owned Catering Company In Charlotte

A Charlotte black-owned catering company named Sweet Potato Jones is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit in one family.

In the heart of “Queen City,” Charlotte, North Carolina, a local black-owned catering company named Sweet Potato Jones is more than just a culinary haven – it’s a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit deeply ingrained in one family, according to WSOC-TV.

Patrick Jones, a native of Queen City, embarked on a journey to convince his girlfriend, Carla, originally from Chicago, to embrace his hometown. A casual visit turned into a significant juncture when Patrick networked during a job interview, leading him to a successful career in computer science.

Sweet Potato Jones was born out of Carla’s transition from throwing Patrick’s 40th birthday bash into turning her love for parties into a thriving side hustle. The endless requests for her expertise fueled the creation of their event and catering company.

“You would see people get instant gratification from the food that they eat,” remarked Amber Jones, Head Chef of Sweet Potato Jones. “So that was what I saw that said I wanna give that same kind of experience through food to people.”

Amber, like her parents, has ventured into catering on the side, while her siblings have carved their own entrepreneurial paths. Patrick “PJ” Jones II serves as the CEO of Applesauce and Crackers, a pajama clothing line, while Ryan Jones owns the braiding hairline XclusiveLeigh.

Reflecting on their diverse ventures, PJ emphasized that nothing was forced upon them, allowing each family member to find their unique lane. Patrick attributes this entrepreneurial spirit to their parents, highlighting the sacrifices and hard work of his father, who built a house for his beautician mother.

Sweet Potato Jones has found immense success, with Carla even considering joining Amber full-time due to the overwhelming demand. “The business has just gone through the roof beyond our imagination. And so we’re very grateful for that,” expressed Carla.

In essence, Sweet Potato Jones is more than a black-owned catering company; it is a celebration of family, passion, and the entrepreneurial legacy that runs deep in the Jones family.

Like Father, Like Son! Tiger Woods’ 15-Year-Old Son Competes In Palm Beach Golf Pre-Qualifier

He gets it from his daddy!

The progeny of Pro Hall of Fame golfer Tiger Woods may be extended if things go well on Feb. 22, when the legend’s son, Charlie Woods, brings his golf equipment to Florida.

According to The PGA Tour, Woods played in the pre-qualifier for the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches that started at 7:39 a.m. Charlie played at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida, one of four pre-qualifying sites. The top players will advance to the Monday qualifier, from which four will earn spots in the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. That tournament takes place Feb. 29-March 3 at PGA National’s Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

USA Today reported that after the first round of the pre-qualifier for the event, the teen was in 10th place, with a majority of the field yet to tee off. Charlie was paired with mini-tour pro Olin Browne Jr., the son of three-time tour winner Olin Browne.

Charlie finished 16-over-86 with four bogeys, two double bogeys, and a 12-shot on the par-4 7th hole. If he can rank among the top 25 finishers, he’ll play in Monday’s qualifier, where four players will earn a spot at PGA National.

If Charlie does well enough to earn a spot, he will make his first start on the PGA Tour at 15 years and 21 days old. He would debut earlier than his father, who did so when he was 16 years old.

The progeny played with his father in the last four PNC Championships. While the pair has yet to win, they came close when they finished as runner-up in 2021.

Prayers Up! Wendy Williams Diagnosed With Frontotemporal Dementia And Aphasia

The Wendy Willams show was cancelled in 2022, due to Williams' ongoing health issues

Radio and talk show host Wendy Williams has been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), according to her medical team.

According to a press release, the media personality received the diagnosis last year.

“The decision to share this news was difficult and made after careful consideration, not only to advocate for understanding and compassion for Wendy but to raise awareness about aphasia and frontotemporal dementia and support the thousands of others facing similar circumstances.”

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, Frontotemporal dementia affects “language  skills, speaking, writing and comprehension.” Symptoms may include loss of motor skills and muscle spasms which tend to get worse over time. In most cases, symptoms appear between 40 and 65 years old. FTD is the most common form of dementia for people under 60.

Williams is receiving treatment from a team of specialists at Weill Cornell Medicine, and as of now, is self-sufficient. According to the press release, she “maintains her trademark sense of humor” and is appreciative of her fan’s support.

This diagnosis was shared ahead of the premiere of Lifetime’s Where Is Wendy Williams? – a two-night docuseries that follows the star’s life after the cancellation of The Wendy Williams Show in 2022. The former talk show host is credited as an executive producer on the project. According to a cover story in People, filming wrapped up when Williams was admitted to a facility to treat “cognitive issues” in April of 2023. The 59-year-old still lives in the facility and is under the care of a court-appointed guardian. Family members have spoken out about having limited access to their famous relative.

“The people who love her cannot see her,” Wendy’s older sister, Wanda, told People.

Where Is Wendy Williams? will air Feb 24 & 25th at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.

Fundraiser Ignites After Fire Destroys Actress Cocoa Brown’s Home

The actress believe a fallen candle caused the house fire that rapidly consumed her entire property and left her with nothing.

A community has banded together to support actress and comedian Cocoa Brown after a devastating fire ravaged her Fayetteville, Georgia, home this week.

The inferno, believed to have been sparked by a fallen candle, erupted so quickly that Brown had to flee with just the clothes on her back alongside her young son, Phoenix, and their pets.

“Cocoa Brown has brought laughter and light to countless lives with her talent and humor. Now, it’s our turn to rally around her and show our support in her time of need,” states a GoFundMe campaign launched by loved ones to assist the star. “While we’re grateful to hear that they are safe, the road ahead is undoubtedly daunting.”

The fundraiser states that Brown and her son lost everything in the blaze and now face the challenge of starting all over.

Sources close to Brown revealed the harrowing moments on Feb. 19 when the fire erupted. According to TMZ, the comedian attempted to douse the flames with an extinguisher. However, the fire rapidly consumed her entire property. With the alarm blaring, Brown realized her only option was to immediately evacuate with her son and pets while they still could.

“Cocoa believes a lit candle may have fallen into some clothes in the house…and by the time the fire alarm went off… CB ran to the room, but it was quickly becoming an inferno,” one source described the terrifying scene.

The “For Better or Worse” star is an accomplished actress who has amassed over 60 acting credits and many comedy specials in her career, but the GoFundMe acknowledges the immense setback of “losing their home” and having to “rebuild their lives from scratch.”

With an initial goal of $50,000, the campaign has already received generous support as Brown’s community rallies around her family during this challenging transition. Brown’s team hopes this support provides some relief and optimism.

Antoine Dodson, Tyler Perry, Madea's Christmas

Antoine Dodson Of ‘Hide Your Kids’ Fame Claims He Wasn’t Paid For His Cameo In ‘Madea’s Christmas’

"Madea's Christmas" was released in 2013 and grossed over $53 million in sales.

Former viral sensation Antoine Dodson claims he did not receive compensation when he appeared in the Tyler Perry film Madea’s Christmas.

Dodson said he’d traveled to Atlanta from Alabama and spent a day on set. The social media star then showed a copy of what appeared to be a script. Dodson admitted that he didn’t ask for compensation because he took the advice of people who thought his cameo would lead to other opportunities.

“Everybody kept saying,’ Oh, this is the great Tyler Perry…..Your career is going to boom. You’re going to work. You’re going to do so well in life.’ Well, that didn’t happen, and I didn’t get paid, so now what?”

Dodson posted a video on TikTok in support of Mo’Nique, who, during her appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, spoke about her ongoing feud with the entertainment mogul. According to Mo’Nique, Perry said she was “difficult” to work with, which caused her to miss out on millions in potential earnings.

“When you’re into it with a gatekeeper who has control whether you work or not, there is no being quiet; you have to take a stance,” Dodson said in the TikTok video.

While some social media users thought Perry should cut Dodson a check, most were unconvinced.

Television producer Chanel Hudson-O’Connor, who goes by Theiconchanel on Instagram, commented in support of Perry.

“Saying other people told you that you were going to blow up after working with Tyler Perry is the reason you didn’t blow up!! He was a conduit for you to take that moment and brand it outside of the cameo he gave you! You didn’t have a scene, you didn’t have lines that were written for a character that he developed,” she wrote.

Hudson-O’Connor went on to say that Dodson should not have been paid, and the screen credit he received was enough.

“That isn’t a good definition of injustice amongst the acting community,” she said.

Perry has not responded to Dodson’s claims.

Gen Z Chooses Texas As Top Destination, Defying Traditional Hotspots

Texas has emerged as the top destination for Gen Z individuals, according to a recent analysis by housing platform Zillow.

FOX 5 Atlanta reports that Texas has emerged as the top destination for Gen Z individuals, according to a recent analysis by the housing platform Zillow. The Lone Star State has seen a remarkable surge in Gen Z residents, outpacing perennially popular choices like California and New York in the post-COVID landscape.

Utilizing data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2022 American Community Survey (ACS), Zillow’s analysis revealed that Texas experienced the most significant gain in Gen Z movers year over year. Edward Berchick, Zillow’s principal population scientist, highlighted Texas’ appeal, citing job opportunities and relative affordability as major factors.

“Texas offers job opportunities and relative affordability. Many parts of Texas have been successful [in] building a lot of new housing to better accommodate its new residents,” said Berchick about the state’s proactive approach to housing development.

Texas boasted a net gain of 76,000 new Gen Z residents, significantly surpassing California, which came in second with nearly 44,000 new Gen Z inhabitants, followed by Florida, with just over 41,000. The data from the ACS also indicated that Texas experienced the largest numeric change in population overall, adding 473,453 people.

Interestingly, California, while still attracting young movers, witnessed the highest outbound migration among all out-of-state movers. Zillow’s population scientist pointed out that California’s dynamic urban areas attract people of all generations, contributing to the state’s ongoing population shifts.

The list of top 10 states where Gen Z is moving also includes traditionally more expensive states like Washington, Colorado, and Virginia. Zillow’s breakdown of ACS numbers revealed that 77% of Gen Z adults in those states are renters, with California, Washington, Colorado, and Virginia having higher median rental prices than the national average of $1,300.

Berchick delved into the implications of Gen Z’s choice to move to more expensive states, suggesting it could be due to higher paying job opportunities or a willingness among younger workers to be flexible in their living arrangements. He noted that they might be more open to living with roommates in smaller places, or farther away from city centers, at the start of their careers.

States with the lowest Gen Z net migration included Michigan, Maryland, and Idaho, with Michigan being the only state exhibiting a negative trend where more Gen Zers left than moved in. Berchick emphasized that as movers age their preferences might shift toward states where they can afford to settle down, start a family, and eventually retire.

Gen Z, defined as individuals born between 1996 and 2004, is making strategic decisions about their living arrangements, seeking places that align with their career goals and lifestyle preferences.

GoFundMe Page Created By Mother Of Kansas City Parade Shooting Suspect Shut Down

Lyndell Mays, 23, was arrested as one of the suspects who shot up the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl celebration on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Mays’ mother then set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for him, saying he needed help through a “tragic time.”

That fundraiser was shut down on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Earlier this week, Mays’ mother, Teneal Burnside, created a GoFundMe account to try to raise funds to seemingly help with the hospital bills he is incurring due to being shot at the celebration himself.

“He is in the ICU fighting for a recovery from several surgeries from going to the Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebration with his older sister” was written on the now-deleted page. The page was set up with a photo of Mays seen in a hospital bed after nine bullets entered his body. One person was killed and 22 injured at the Super Bowl celebration that day.

The fundraiser had received $100 before it was removed.

Mays was charged on Tuesday, Feb. 20, with second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon in connection with the tragedy that took place. Police officers said that he admitted to pulling out his gun initially and shooting at another person at the crowded event. Another suspect, 18-year-old Dominic Miller, was also arrested and charged.

“Mays confirmed that he drew his gun first and started shooting, all because they said, ‘I’m’ going to get you,’ and to him, that meant, ‘I’m’ going to kill you,'” according to court documents obtained by The New York Post.

“Mays stated the other individuals started shooting only after [he] shot first.”

After being questioned by investigators on why he took the action he did, he responded, “Stupid, man. Just pulled a gun out and started shooting. I shouldn’t have done that. Just being stupid.”

When Mays pulled out his gun, “almost immediately” other people at the celebration, including Miller, drew their weapons as well. Miller was caught on surveillance video firing the fatal shot that killed radio personality Lisa Lopez-Galvan, prosecutors said.

Both suspects are being held on a $1 million bond.

Black Women Homebuyers Still Facing Systemic Roadblocks

Three key factors that pose obstacles for Black women homeowners are education debt, mortgage access and low-wage jobs.

There’s a rising wave of Black women achieving homeownership; however, the path to home acquisition for single Black women remains marred by considerable obstacles. Recent real estate data reveals Black women are far ahead as homebuyers, compared to Black men.

According to the National Association of Realtors, single female buyers represent 27% of all Black homeowners, which is ahead of the single women, who represent 24% of Asian homebuyers, 17% of white buyers, and 7% of Hispanic buyers.

The trajectory shows no sign of slowing based on a 2022 analysis by Realtor.com that indicates the portion of Black female homebuyers surged from 32.4% between 2017-2018 to 35.4% from 2020-2021. Simultaneously, their 7.3% annual homebuying growth rate during 2018-2020 more than doubled the 3.4% pace among Black men over that span.

CNBC reported three key factors that pose obstacles for single Black women homeowners: education debt, mortgage access, and low-wage jobs.

“…If you’re a Black woman in America, you’re probably going to have a harsh time buying a house in many circumstances,” LendingTree economist Jacob Channel stated. Channel pointed to “societal hurdles that…should not exist,” which “make it unnecessarily difficult,” despite the increasing Black female homeownership numbers.

One such barrier is the disproportionate student loan burden carried by Black women – averaging $41,466 in undergraduate debt alone, according to Bankrate.

“Higher student loans can hamper the ability to save for a down payment and qualify for mortgages,” researchers noted. This week, the battle over President Biden’s student debt relief plan reached the steps of the Supreme Court. On Tuesday, the National Urban League united with fellow civil rights groups to amplify the plight of millions crushed by mounting education loans through powerful personal testimonies. Their rally came as six states petitioned the nation’s highest court to permanently strike down the forgiveness program aimed at extending a critical lifeline to over 40 million at-risk borrowers.

A study by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis revealed a stark racial divide in the ability to leverage familial wealth after graduating college. While white households commonly receive financial transfers from relatives to assist with major investments like home purchases, students of color seldom have access to such generational affluence. This disparity forces many minorities to shoulder higher rates of loan debt in order to finance their education and achieve property ownership goals unattainable through personal or family resources alone.

Mortgage accessibility compounds the issue.

While pre-recession lending practices were more relaxed, “single Black women were less likely homeowners in 2021, compared to 2007,” per the National Women’s Law Center. The Center also found that during the housing crisis, Black women faced a 256% higher likelihood of being issued a high-risk, subprime mortgage, versus white male borrowers.

Employment represents another headwind.

The Center’s director of housing justice, Sarah Hassmer, noted that Black women and Latinas are overrepresented in lower-wage sectors like childcare and hospitality roles, which “are vastly undervalued but critical” to the economy. With median childcare worker wages at just $13.71 hourly – $28,520 annually – Hassmer stated that expense makes affording a down payment a major obstacle.
