Majority Of Americans Believe Anti-Black Racism Is Widespread

Non-Latinx Black adults constitute the highest population to share this view.

According to a new Gallup poll, a majority of Americans—and a supermajority of Black Americans—believe that anti-Black racism is widespread in the United States. The 64% of Americans who think this particular brand of racism is widespread is tied with its polls from 2021 and is the highest figure recorded in its periodic polls since 2008.

As might be expected, non-Latinx Black adults constitute the highest population to share this view, 83% of those respondents said that anti-Black racism is prevalent in the United States, followed by Latinx (64%) and non-Latinx white adults (61%). Notably, in 2008, when Gallup first posed this question, amid the candidacy and election of Barack Obama, only 56% of Americans thought anti-Black racism was a problem, and when he took office the next year, it went down to 51%.

However, by 2015, the next year of Gallup’s poll, following several high-profile cases of Black Americans killed by the police, that figure hit its inflection point, measuring 60%, and has not dipped below that mark since.

Despite the insistence of Donald Trump and his Republican Party in recent years that anti-white racism is prevalent, most Americans do not share that view; only 29% of respondents in the latest poll believe that it’s widespread, in contrast to the previous polling in 2016, when it came in at 41%.

Moreover, the perception of unfairness when Black people are dealing with the police, receiving healthcare, shopping at stores or shopping malls, at work, in restaurants or bars or entertainment venues, and when in neighborhood shops, among adults in the United States has been steadily increasing since 2018, and all are either at record or near-record figures, reflecting a higher proportion of all racial groups believing that Black people in their communities are treated unfairly.

As it relates to civil rights, although the polling indicates that while the majority of white Americans believe that civil rights for Black people have improved during their lifetimes, that figure is lower than it has been in the past.

However, as a longer view of the public opinion regarding civil rights by Cornell University’s Roper Center points out, over time, the gap between Black and white sentiment regarding civil rights has been steadily narrowing. This has been driven in large part by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, largely considered the most transformative piece of legislation for the lives of Americans, in particular, Black Americans, over the last half-century.

In a 2024 treatise on the legacy of the Civil Rights Act, honoring its 60th anniversary at American University, one of its professors, Omekongo Dibinga, expounded on what made that particular act so profound, particularly in terms of who is considered an American.

According to Dibinga, it was a “landmark decision” which “really set the standard for any fight for equality in the United States.”

He continued, further contextualizing the legislation, “For Black people, it was the belief that, within this real time, within this real period, we can actually start having access to making America, as Dr. King said, as good as its promise for everybody. To actually put this down on paper, the immediate effect for Black people was: it was very powerful, and it meant so much to the community.”

He concluded, “All of the amendments that Black people have fought for in this country, they never only benefited Black people. Any type of discrimination suit that has been used against Black people that was challenged with the Civil Rights Act has been used by other groups. Every time we fought for rights in this country, we’ve made rights more expansive for other people. I think that’s one of the greatest legacies of the Civil Rights Act because when you look at it, you’re saying that this country belongs to everybody. And if it’s going to belong to everybody, everybody should have equal protection.”

Companies Continue To Soar Under Black Leadership, Just Ask Lowe’s CEO Marvin Ellison

The proud CEO hasn't been silent about his blooming success, highlighting all the ways the company has grown under his leadership like putting employees on the track for growth.

Recently celebrating seven years as Lowe’s CEO, Marvin Ellison has taken the home improvement company to higher heights in addition to performing well on Wall Street, AfroTech reports.

Ellison made history as the first Black executive to serve as CEO of two Fortune 500 companies — joining Lowe’s in 2018 and previously working with JCPenney. Also having a hand at leadership roles, including serving as a director at Target and executive vice president at The Home Depot, he celebrated his leadership milestone by honoring hard work and joining some of his thousands of employees who make Lowe’s stores such a pleasant environment. “I celebrated my 7-year anniversary at Lowe’s the same way I began – in the aisles of our stores. It was an honor to receive my service badge from the hard-working Associates at Store 2304 in Chicago, led by Store Manager Brian Smagacz, DM Tim Lucas, and RVP Charles Reasonova,” he wrote on LinkedIn.

“I thank God for his continued blessings & favor!”

The proud CEO hasn’t been silent about his blooming success, highlighting all the ways the company has grown under his leadership, like putting employees on the track for growth. “Lowe’s has committed $50 million, over five years, to train 50,000 individuals in skill trades. There is a critical shortage of skilled trades workers in the US, and Lowe’s is honored to be part of the solution,” he wrote.

Ellison’s leadership also proved its worth in the stock market. Billionaire Africa celebrated Lowe’s strong performance on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), raising the stock by 16.1% — from $215 in July to $249.7 — in just one month. In addition to Lowe’s generating $83.7 billion in revenue and roughly $7 billion in profits, Ellison is among nine other leaders on the list of top Black CEOs leading a Fortune 500 company in 2025.

It could be his love for blue-collar and lower-level workers that makes him such a good leader. Ellison has been a strong and vocal advocate for Gen Z workers to keep their eyes on the cash register and not on the corporate corner offices as much. During the Business Roundtable’s CEO Workforce Forum in Washington, DC, in June 2025, the CEO touched on the dangers of AI coming in to take jobs and gave a sneak peek at the advice he offers some of today’s workers. “AI isn’t going to fix a hole in your roof. It’s not going to respond to an electrical issue in your home. It’s not going to stop your water heater from leaking,” he said to the crowd.

“When young people come to me and they desire to work in the corporate office, my advice to them is: Stay as close to the cash register as you can. Stay close to the customers, because you will always have employment opportunities to grow.”

But there are some positives to having eyes set for the corporate lifestyle. Kyle C., an outlet supervisor, celebrated completing his Lowe’s corporate internship with the opportunity to introduce the CEO, having started as a cashier in 2019. “In 2019, I was a cashier. If you had told me that six years later, I would be finishing my corporate internship introducing our CEO, I might not have believed you,” he wrote.

“But that’s where I’m at.”

Danessa Myricks X Neutrogena Is Hitting Shelves Soon

Makeup artist and beauty entrepreneur Danessa Myricks has joined forces with Neutrogena to launch a new collaboration.

Makeup artist and beauty entrepreneur Danessa Myricks has joined forces with Neutrogena to launch a new collaboration.

The campaign aims to celebrate skin-first beauty. Beginning Aug. 31, customers will be able to shop three limited-edition “Get Glam Ready” kits exclusively at CVS Pharmacy and CVS.com.

For Myricks, the collaboration represents a full-circle moment. As a teenager, she relied on Neutrogena to treat acne and later built her first makeup kit using products she picked up from her local CVS. Decades later, she still trusts the brand’s formulas, praising their “science-backed efficacy and everyday accessibility,” according to the press release.

Michelle LeBlanc, vice president of Merchandising for Beauty, Personal Care, and the Hispanic Strategy Team at CVS Health, called the partnership a natural fit.

“What I love about this collaboration is that we’re bringing together Danessa’s artistry and Neutrogena’s dermatologist-backed skin care with the accessibility we offer via our stores and online, and coupling that with the beauty shopper’s focus on skin prep and makeup removal. By coming together, we are amplifying our strengths and creating a new and exciting experience for our customers.”

The product lineup includes:

  • Makeup Remover Wipes ($6.99): Alcohol-free, ultra-soft wipes designed to remove up to 99% of makeup, including waterproof mascara.
  • Hydro Boost Hydro Gel Masks ($9.99 for a 3-pack): Cooling masks infused with hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate and smooth skin.
  • Skin Prep Set ($29.99): A curated kit combining wipes, gel masks, Hydro Boost Gel Cream, and a tinted lip oil for a complete hydration and prep routine.

All items reflect Neutrogena and Myricks’ vision of inclusivity and accessibility in beauty.

Myricks has built a reputation as one of the most inventive voices in modern beauty. A self-taught artist, she launched Danessa Myricks Beauty in 2015 and has sold her products globally at Sephora. The line is praised for its inclusive shade ranges and innovative textures.

Myricks has carved out space for creativity and inclusivity in an industry long criticized for its lack of representation. This new partnership with Neutrogena represents another step in her mission to make beauty tools and techniques available to everyone.

NFL Hall Of Famer Eric Dickerson Says The NFL Sabotaged Shedeur Sanders In League Draft

'We're going to make an example out of him. And this came from a very good source, a very good source.'

In what may be the biggest case of collusion since former quarterback Colin Kaepernick was not given another chance to play in the NFL, an NFL Hall of Famer (no, not Deion Sanders), Eric Dickerson, feels this was the case with Cleveland Browns rookie, Shedeur Sanders not being drafted until the fith round of the most recent NFL Draft.

According to USA Today, the former running back, who played with the Los Angeles Rams, the Indianapolis Colts, the Los Angeles Raiders, and the Atlanta Falcons during his illustrious career, feels that NFL owners were instructed not to select Sanders leading up to this year’s NFL Draft. He made the revelation while appearing on the “Roggin and Rodney” show on AM 570 LA Sports with co-hosts Fred Roggin and Rodney Peete.

Dickerson claimed that he had insider information when speaking of the alleged directive from the league earlier this year. Their reason? To make an example out of him. It was rumored that he wouldn’t go to several teams and, like many players before him, was trying to place himself in a better situation in terms of the teams that would draft him. His father, Deion Sanders, was also another speculative factor, as he did not want his son suiting up for certain teams that were in position to pick him. Although many white players have done so in the past, it was viewed and speculated by many as racism that the NFL did not appreciate a Black man trying to tell them what they can and cannot do.

“I tell you this much, what I heard from someone that’s in the NFL that the NFL told [teams] don’t draft him, do not draft him,” Dickerson told Roggin and Peete. “We’re going to make an example out of him. And this came from a very good source, a very good source.”

Before the Browns picked him with the 155th selection, Dickerson stated that the team had called and was told to draft him. Sanders was an anticipated Top 3 pick before the draft, but suspiciously fell to the fifth round, ramping up rumors of the league plotting to have him fall in disgrace. However, lesser-known players who did not have the same stats or win-loss record as Sanders were being selected.

Dickerson said that the Browns were notified and told to select him.

“He said that–– I won’t say who–– somebody called the Cleveland Browns and said ‘don’t do that, draft him,'” Dickerson said. “Because they weren’t going to draft him either… They were forced into drafting him because somebody made a call to them.”

“They were going to have him not get drafted to basically show you ‘this is what happens when you do this.’ I mean, look, [Roggin], the NFL’s got all kinds of power, they do all kinds of stuff. You know it and I know it too.”

16-Year-Old Boss Inks A ‘Fresh’ Deal With Walmart

Joshua Danrich is a teenage businessman on the rise who just signed a deal with Walmart for his “Mr. Fresh” air fresheners.

Joshua Danrich is a teenage businessman on the rise. The young entrepreneur just signed a distribution deal with Walmart for his “Mr. Fresh” air fresheners.

Joshua and his mother, Shay Danrich, recently inked a deal to bring their natural, oil-based “Mr. Fresh” air fresheners to Walmart’s automotive departments worldwide. The 16-year-old pitched his idea at Walmart’s Open Call event in Bentonville, Arkansas. Joshua introduced his idea to five departments. His business acumen and courage landed him a same-day deal. Joshua and Shay spoke with the St. Louis American about the monumental deal.

“I’m the only kid in the world with my own air fresheners in Walmart,” Joshua said.

His products are already available across Missouri and in select Walmart stores in Illinois. Soon, they’ll hit shelves everywhere Walmart sells auto merchandise.

Mr. Fresh brand is a family affair, as Joshua’s partner in business is his mom. Together, they’ve grown Mr. Fresh from sketches that were born of Joshua’s love of luxury sports cars into a thriving brand. The name stands for “Faith to Rescue Every Son from Hurt.”

The company’s mission is not only to sell merchandise but also to support emotional well-being, especially for Black boys.

Luckily for the pair, they enlisted the assistance of the legal Services of Eastern Missouri’s Microenterprise Program. The legal offices helped guide and advise them every step of the way. From business formation and trademarks to contracts and liability, the family credits the organization for helping turn their idea into a branded business.

“This shows young people—especially young Black boys—that their ideas matter, and they can achieve things they never imagined,” said Shay Danrich, reflecting on the opportunity.

Joshua added his own advice, “Never give up on your dreams, no matter how big they seem.”

Joshua’s deal isn’t just entering a store; it’s stepping onto a global stage. Walmart operates over 10,750 stores worldwide across 19 countries and welcomes around 255 million shoppers weekly. That means Mr. Fresh will now be discovered by more people in one week than many brands see in a year.

The New WAY Campaign Empowers Youth At The Weeknd’s “After Hours Til Dawn” Tour

The New WAY (Who Are You?) culture campaign, an initiative to empower youth to redefine career success, partnered with The Weeknd’s “After Hours Til Dawn” tour for its Atlanta stop at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The campaign is a partnership between Stand Together, a philanthropic community created to address issues like racial and socioeconomic disparities, and No More Dream Studios. The project aims to empower youth to explore career options through a non-traditional approach.

“No More Dreams Studios exists at the intersection of entertainment and creativity, and we’re proud to partner with Stand Together to help young people and society at large imagine what career success can look like,” La Mar Taylor, creative director and founder, XO Records and No More Dreams Studio, said in a press release.

“This partnership allows us to break down outdated narratives around education and achievement, and instead, uplift stories of passion, purpose, and possibility.”

Ahead of the Aug. 21 show, concertgoers had the chance to visit the WAY station video booth, which urged visitors to reflect on what makes them unique. The campaign also features inspiring video messages from WAY influencers, such as rapper Killer Mike. The video includes Melissa Proctor, executive vice president and CMO of the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena; Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group and tech innovator; and Iddris Sandu

Colette Weintraub, head of Stand Together Music, Sports & Entertainment, explained the importance of the WAY campaign, which encourages youth to think beyond traditional norms.

“The prevailing belief in society has many believing there is one path to success, and success looks a certain way. WAY is intended to give people social permission in a time when there is a lot of social pressure. We want people to know they can define their own pathways to success, and there is more than one pathway. Most importantly, what success looks like is up to you,” Weintraub stated.

Each U.S. tour stop features a “WAY Station” video with upcoming concerts in Tampa, Houston, San Antonio, and Indianapolis. The tour makes its final stop in New York City on Sept. 27.

Debbie Allen And Phylicia Rashad’s Mother, Vivian Ayers, Dies At 102

Vivian Ayers Allen, acclaimed poet and playwright and mother of Phylicia Rashad and Debbie Allen, has died at the age of 102.

Vivian Ayers Allen, celebrated poet, playwright, and mother of Phylicia Rashad and Debbie Allen, has passed away at 102.

On Aug. 20, Allen shared the sad news on Instagram, posting a heartfelt tribute to her late mother that featured a video montage of family photos set to Stevie Wonder’s “Golden Lady.”

“Mommie, you have transformed into that cosmic bird Hawk that lives and breathes Freedom,” Allen wrote. “We will follow your trail of golden dust and continue to climb higher. We promise “to be true, be beautiful, be Free.”

The celebrated choreographer and founder of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy signed off the post with her name, her siblings’ names, and other family members. She also gave a shoutout to “all the Turks in our family,” a nod to the affectionate nickname “MaTurk” that her family used for Ayers.

Ayers lived a life devoted to scholarship, arts, and culture, passions she eagerly shared with her four children. A graduate of the Brainerd Institute, she became the founding director of the Brainerd Institute Heritage after Phylicia Rashad purchased the 12-acre property where the institute once stood in 1999. Ayers’ distinctive poetry style earned her a Pulitzer Prize nomination, a place in Langston Hughes’ 1964 collection New Negro Poets, USA, and praise at NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, where enlarged renderings of her 1952 poem “Hawk” are displayed.

While residing in Texas, Ayers became the first African American faculty member at Rice University, and later moved to Mexico, where she studied Greek literature, Mayan culture, and Mesoamerican math and astronomy. In the 1980s, after relocating to New York, Ayers founded the ADEPT New American Museum of the Southwest in Mount Vernon, where she organized community arts projects and highlighted Black and Indigenous artists.

Her collaborations included a performance with Jimmie Durham and Muhammad Ali in Durham’s My Land. Over her lifetime, Ayers received honors from the National Council of Negro Women, the Jack and Jill of America Foundation, and was awarded a Medal of Honor by Winthrop University in 2008.

In 2023, Ayers celebrated her 100th birthday with a party at the Brainerd Institute, where Phylicia Rashad read Hawk, accompanied by the Claflin University Choir. Another celebration at the Rhimes Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles featured readings and performances by an A-list lineup, including Angela Bassett, Jesse Williams, Alexis Floyd, Cory Henry, and her daughter Debbie Allen.

Ayers’ passing comes just weeks after she celebrated her 102nd birthday with her family, who organized a special jazz concert in her honor.

Phil Ivey Takes Opportunity To Flip Sale Of Game-Worn Kobe Sneakers

The professional poker player was seen at Sneaker Con in Las Vegas

Professional poker player Phil Ivey gambled with a vendor at Sneaker Con in Las Vegas last month, when he brought a pair of game-worn sneakers from basketball legend Kobe Bryant.

According to Poker News, instead of accepting an offer for the Kobes, Ivey took a chance on either losing them to the shoe collector or gaining some cash for the sneakers in an eventual coin flip. The person sitting at the table at the convention was Chase Young, who has a YouTube channel called Culture Kicks.

Ivey is an 11-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner and is used to being in high-stakes situations throughout his career, so an episode like this is unlikely to rattle him. He approaches the table with another gentleman who was acting as Ivey’s broker. He presented the sneakers and informed Young that it was a pair of game-worn shoes by Kobe Bryant, without providing any certified proof, but assured him of the authenticity of the footwear. Typically, most buyers and auction houses require some type of certification, often requesting photos when negotiating a sale for a valued item, specifically with sports collectibles. Evidently knowing the gentleman, Young took him at his word.

The coin flip opportunity was offered, with Ivey taking a chance on losing the sneakers for a total of $0. Yet, if he wins the coin toss, he wants $50,000. Young, questioning the worth of the sneakers, was told they were worth $20,000 to $25,000 if they were sold normally. Obviously, feeling lucky, he decided to offer $40,000, but Ivey asked for $45,000, and Young offered $42,500, along with two baseball caps. That became the wager.

Ivey tells Young, “If you win, you take it for free. I’m rooting for you. Honestly, I really want you to win.”

After calling tails, Ivey emerged victorious and gained an even better deal than he would have received if he had just sold him the sneakers.

Ye Launches New Cryptocurrency YZY Token

Ye adds his name to the expanding roster of celebrity-backed digital currencies.

Ye is throwing his hat into the digital currency space with the launch of his own cryptocurrency, the YZY Token.

Taking to X on Aug. 20, Ye unveiled his new Yeezy Money platform and YZY Token memecoin, which launched with massive gains before being accused of insider trading.

“YEEZY MONEY IS HERE,” Ye wrote over a screenshot of a text message. “A NEW ECONOMY, BUILT ON CHAIN.”

He followed up with a short video announcing the official Yeezy Token, along with another link to its website. Soon after, however, a community note flagged the launch with concerns of insider trading.

“Worth noting that Mikey Shelton, a developer behind this token, has openly bragged about insider trading of it on his Instagram,” the message states.

After the announcement, the token’s value skyrocketed nearly 6,800%, briefly hitting $3.16 in early trading and receiving a $3 billion market cap from trackers. However, following its meteoric surge, the token’s value tumbled below $1, sparking widespread doubt about the sustainability of celebrity-backed, centralized crypto projects, which are often criticized as “pump-and-dump” schemes.

YZY Money, a Solana-based memecoin tied to Ye, is part of his broader YZY ecosystem, which also includes the YZY token, a Ye Pay transaction processor, and a YZY Card for spending YZY and USDC globally. Initially, 70% of the token supply was slated for Ye, 10% for liquidity, and 20% for a public sale; however, later reports revealed that he controls a staggering 87% of the total supply, a concentration that fueled wild price swings and drew criticism.

Insiders claim that the YZY Token’s allocation structure was modeled after Donald Trump’s TRUMP token, which reportedly inspired Ye’s entry into crypto. The move has stirred controversy, especially given Ye’s past statement that “coins prey on the fans with hype.”

Market experts continue to warn about the dangers of celebrity-backed tokens, which have the potential to distort market behavior through manipulative tactics like pump-and-dump schemes. Ordinary investors typically end up paying the price when major holders issue dramatic sell-offs. Ye’s $30 million infusion into liquidity pools has raised questions about market integrity and the ethical responsibilities of those leading the ship.
