Artist Kehinde Wiley Pulls Receipts To Deny ‘Disgusting’ Sexual Assault And Abuse Allegations Made By Multiple Men

Kehinde Wiley is showing receipts to shut down the sexual assault and abuse allegations men have brought against him.

Famed artist Kehinde Wiley is bringing forth receipts to shut down the disturbing sexual assault and abuse allegations multiple men have brought against him in recent months.

The Los Angeles-born, New York-based artist, best known for painting the official portrait of former President Barack Obama, took to Instagram on Tuesday, June 11, to “set the record straight” through detailed timelines and screenshots of private messages sent between him and two of his four alleged victims.

Screenshots show alleged texts between Wiley and Ghanaian artist Joseph Awuah-Darko, the first person to come forward with allegations accusing the painter of sexually assaulting him twice in 2021.

A screenshot shows the Instagram caption Awuah-Darko wrote after meeting Wiley in Ghana for the first time in June 2021. Other images show missed back-to-back calls from Awuah-Darko during what Wiley described as a “consensual one-time encounter” after a night of “flirting.”

“The next day, he left happily, as witnessed by my assistant who arranged his transportation home,” Wiley wrote alongside more screenshots of text messages. “He also sent me these friendly and flirty messages. This marked the beginning of years of Joseph aggressively pursuing a relationship with me.”

Another screenshot showed Awuah-Darko agreeing to travel from London to Nigeria to attend Wiley’s birthday party in February 2022.

“A year after we first met,” Wiley wrote.

“Just last year, he repeatedly sought to visit me at my cabin in Upstate New York, which I ignored,” the artist added alongside more screenshots.

Other images show Awuah-Darko wishing Wiley a happy birthday and telling him how much he is “loved” in 2023, as well as screenshots of the many times he mentioned Wiley on his Instagram Story.

“Since our first encounter in 2021, he has consistently sent me messages via phone and Instagram professing his love for me, my talent, and my work,” Wiley wrote. “He has mentioned me on Instagram Stories more than 30 times.”

Wiley also called out Awuah-Darko for allegedly deleting “thousands of Instagram posts that didn’t fit his narrative,” including one post where he “celebrated our friendship on his feed.”

A second accuser, activist Derrick Ingram, recently came forward to accuse Wiley of rape during “an ongoing relationship for about four months” between July and October 2021, Page Six reports.

“On September 10, 2021, I was raped [unprotected] and sexually assaulted by Kehinde Wiley at his apartment in New York,” Ingram wrote in an Instagram post that included Wiley’s address.

“During the course of our relationship, there were moments of extreme violence which included being punched in an Uber, being slapped and along with severe emotional manipulation.”

However, Wiley denies Ingram’s claims and credits them to the “smear campaign” Awuah-Darko has launched against him.

“He finally managed to conspire with a person I had a brief consensual encounter within 2021” who “also hoped for a more significant relationship,” Wiley wrote.

To prove this, Wiley shared screenshots from texts Ingram sent after their encounter, telling the famed painter he was “amazing” and desired to “see me again,” he wrote.

According to Wiley, who unveiled two portraits of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys earlier this year, his alleged victims are hurling “disgusting accusations” at him in an attempt to destroy his brand and image.

“What is motivating these individuals to hurl these disgusting accusations… Who knows…. We live in a world where a single false social media post can destroy someone’s life, where people are tried and convicted online without regard for the truth. This is dangerous and wrong,” Wiley wrote.

Two additional accusers have come forward with claims against Wiley, including UK-based author and curator Nathaniel Lloyd Richards, who accuses the painter of “inappropriate touching and groping during a date in 2019.” Awuah-Darko and Ingram both plan to sue Wiley.

Meanwhile, many expressed their support for Wiley in his comments sections, making claims that seemingly accuse Awuah-Darko of lying about the famed artist.

“Joseph literally flew thousands of miles to attend your birthday party a year after this “supposed” abuse took place,” one person wrote. “I personally witnessed him at the party. He was thrilled to see you and stayed for hours.”

“I have known you for 25 years, stayed at your house dozens of times, and never seen actions like the ones being described,” added someone else.

Hillary Clinton Announces Endorsement For Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s Opponent, George Latimer

Clinton’s support for the candidate's campaign comes shortly after Bowman’s accusation of Latimer of being racist in a virtual town hall.

Hillary Clinton, the former Secretary of State and U.S. Senator, has endorsed the campaign of George Latimer, the incumbent Westchester County Executive, for his election bid for the 16th District of New York.

Clinton’s endorsement has provided a boost to Latimer’s campaign as the early voting period in New York draws near. According to a press release, Latimer has garnered support not only from Clinton but also from Democratic leaders in the Bronx and Westchester counties.

Latimer’s opponent in the race is Democratic New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman, who BLACK ENTERPRISE previously mentioned is running for his third term in Congress. However, his campaign recently took a hit after he outwardly voiced his criticisms towards Israel, according to CNN.

Clinton’s support for the candidate’s campaign comes shortly after Bowman’s accusation of Latimer of being racist in a virtual town hall. The Washington Free Beacon reported that Bowman called out a pro-Israel group, AIPAC, for backing Latimer and claiming the pro-Israel group is labeling him anti-Semitic because it can’t “get away with” calling him a racial slur.

“That is why AIPAC’s coming after us, coming after us with hate, coming after us with bullying, and intimidation, and fear. You should see what they’re doing in my district,” Bowman said. “Lie after lie after lie about my record. Lie after lie calling me anti-Semitic, calling me anti-Biden, saying I’m not a real Democrat, using all kinds of dog whistles.”

Clinton voiced her concerns on X, formerly Twitter, about the need for “strong, principled Democrats in Congress more than ever,” emphasizing the importance of supporting candidates who align with Democratic values and President Biden’s agenda.

“In Congress, @LatimerforNY will protect abortion rights, stand up to the NRA, and fight for President Biden’s agenda — just like he’s always done,” Clinton wrote, underscoring her confidence in Latimer’s commitment to crucial issues.

Coach Teresa Weatherspoon Reacts When Angel Reese Receives Advice From Opposing Team Member

Angel Reese received advice from veteran player Tina Charles.

The Chicago Sky and The Atlanta Dream squared up Saturday in Chicago’s Wintrust Arena. The Dream defeated their opponents with a score of 89-80. But this eventful match wasn’t the only thing that sports fans were talking about.

A video posted on X showed Chicago Sky rookie, Angel Reese engaged in a post-game conversation with Atlanta Dream center, Tina Charles. The viral clip showed the ladies hugging before parting ways.

Reese reposted the clip with the caption, “learning from the best.”

In a post-game interview, Charles shared details of her conversation with the younger woman.

“She just thanked me for leading the way for her,” Charles said. The long-time player went on to say that she offered some advice to the rookie.

“I just tried to tell her to settle down when she’s in the post,” the veteran said.

The 2012 MVP commended the “elite player”  for the way she has handled notoriously racist and misogynist media attention while still focusing on the game.

“She’s still able to lock in and play the game and be effective for her team.”

Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon shared her opinion about Charles’ advice to Reese during a media availability session on June 10. When asked what it meant to see Reese and Charles speaking after the game, Weatherspoon said it meant “everything.”

“The good thing about it is that those veterans are talking to the younger players. The opposite teams are talking to our younger players because they want to see this league grow, Weatherspoon said.

The coach said that although they are opponents on the court, the women of the WNBA support one another.

“The world needs to know that everybody is rooting for everybody.”

The record-breaking coach doesn’t appear to be bothered  by her player receiving advice from a member of the opposing team.

James Beard Awards Celebrate Nation’s Best: New Orleans’ Senegalese Restaurant Among Top Honorees

The James Beard Awards celebrate the nation's best culinary talents, featuring standout winners like a New Orleans-based Senegalese restaurant.

The renowned James Beard Awards are back, and among this year’s recipients are a New Orleans-based Senegalese restaurant, a Palestinian chef using ancient cooking techniques, and an upscale Thai restaurant operating out of Oregon.

With over 100 restaurants coming in as finalists across 22 categories, this momentous occasion is likened to the Oscars, but for the culinary arts. The highly anticipated categories include awards for outstanding chefs, restaurateurs, and restaurants and have held ceremonies since 1991, with a brief pause from 2020 to 2021 due to the global pandemic and its impact on the restaurant industry.

Moreover, the James Beard Awards also faced criticism over a lack of diversity and allegations about some of the nominees’ behavior during that time. Moving forward, officials of the foundation vowed to “improve ethical standards and be more reflective of the industry.”

Now, back for its third consecutive year since taking a break during the height of the pandemic, the James Beard Awards are back and better than ever. After applying for the awards, a restaurant’s cuisine is tried by judges who mostly remain anonymous. Nominees are then reviewed for not only the food but also a behavioral code of ethics that includes how employees are treated.

Winners, announced at the Lyric Opera of Chicago venue, were given engraved medallions. Dakar NOLA, the Senegalese restaurant housed in New Orleans, walked away with an award for the best new restaurant.

“I always knew that West Africa has something to say,” said chef Serigne Mbaye. “That kept me going.”

Among the other winners were Colorado couple Erika and Kelly Whitaker, who won the award for outstanding restaurateur, and Michael Rafidi, who leads Washington D.C.’s restaurant Alibi, who walked away with the outstanding chef honor.

Alibi, Arabic for “my heart,” pays homage to Rafidi’s Palestinian roots through the use of Old World food preparation techniques. “This is for Palestine and all the Palestinian people out there,” Rafidi told The Associated Press after winning the award. He also recalled constantly thinking of his Palestinian grandfather, who was also a chef, and how he paved the way for him.

Man With Body Armor And Weapons Arrested At NYC Traffic Stop

Judd Sanson, 27, was also found with writings. One stated, 'You gonna learn today.'

A man who with weapons, body armor, and suspicious writings was arrested June 12 during a traffic stop in Queens, New York.

According to NBC News, the man was detained and taken into custody around 4:30 a.m., and an investigation was started to find out if he had any emotional issues and the purpose of why he was heavily armed.

Officials didn’t know where he was heading, what his intentions were, including if he was taking part in an act of terrorism.

Authorities found a gun, knives, and other weapons and body armor. He was also apprehended with some writings, one of which stated: “You gonna learn today.”

The New York Police Department is leading the investigation.

CNN reported that the man’s name is Judd Sanson, a 27-year-old Queens resident. Sanson was  stopped after police officers noticed the license plate on a Black Ford Explorer was blacked out.  NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey B. Maddrey told reporters that officers discovered a large cache of weapons, handcuffs, NYPD uniform items, and a New York City transit vest.

Sanson faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon a loaded firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of an ammo feed device, and an obscured license plate.

“We’re going to be very thorough with this investigation,” Maddrey said during a press conference. “It will be investigated by the detective bureau along with our intel unit to just see what else we can learn about this arrest.”

Based on what officials found in the vehicle, investigators from the NYPD’s Intelligence Division and the Joint Terrorism Task Force were brought in.

“Members of this department make gun arrests, weapons arrests, arrests for knives every day. But an arrest of this magnitude—the amount of ammunition, NYPD paraphernalia in the car, was significant,” Maddrey said.

According to CNN, his lawyer entered a not guilty plea and Sanson was remanded into custody. His next hearing is set for Monday, June 17.

Usher Has Full-Circle Moment Being Honored With Babyface At Apollo’s 90th Anniversary, ‘Look Where I Am Today’

Usher recalls his dreams of performing on "Showtime at the Apollo" while accepting the Icon Award at the venue's 90th anniversary.

Usher went from watching Showtime at the Apollo as a child to being honored by the historic theater as a music icon.

The superstar singer was in Harlem, New York on Wednesday, June 12, where he was honored alongside iconic singer/songwriter/producer Babyface at The Apollo’s annual spring benefit gala. This year’s fundraising event was extra special as it raised $3 million and celebrated the legendary venue’s 90th anniversary, NBC News reported.

Usher received the Icon Award and watched dancers perform a choreographed medley of his songs including “Yeah,” “Burn,” “Caught Up,” and “Confessions Part II,” among others. During his speech, the singer recalled his childhood days watching Showtime at The Apollo with his late grandmother.

“I remember thinking, ‘Man, someday I’m gonna make it to that stage,’ and ‘hopefully one day, I’ll get a standing ovation,’” he said as everyone in attendance stood and cheered. “I stand before you humbled by your appreciation.”

“You know, they say if you make it in New York, you can make it anywhere. Well, if you can make it to The Apollo, you can do anything,” he added.

“To be here at The Apollo — what’s so hard for me to find the words, because if I’m honest, I just never saw myself as like being on The Apollo stage. I was always the guy behind the scenes and writing songs for everyone else,” Babyface said. “I am just in awe to be considered as part of this.”

“I’m just going to thank everybody. Normally I stand up here, I’m funnier than this. Usually, I am. But I’m just, I’m really just so taken by this, and I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate it,” he added.

The gala ended with singers coming on stage to perform a medley of Babyface’s classic hits including Toni Braxton‘s “You Mean the World to Me,” Eric Clapton’s “Change the World,” Whitney Houston’s “I’m Your Baby Tonight,” and more.

DMX Lands Second No. 1 Record, First On Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay Chart

The deceased rapper is featured on Five Finger Death Punch's 'This Is the Way.'

DMX has come back from the dead. Well, at least his voice has to score a number-one hit on a chart many would not have expected the late hip-hop star to occupy.

According to Billboard, the Yonkers-bred emcee is at the top of the magazine’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart as a featured artist with the song, “This Is the Way” by Five Finger Death Punch. The rock group just scored their 15th No. 1 hit with the DMX-assisted single.

“This Is the Way” is DMX’s second No. 1 Billboard-charted song. The first record was “Party Up (Up in Here),” which topped the Billboard Rap Airplay chart for six weeks in 2000.

“The idea of collaborating with DMX had been in discussion for years, and it was a long and winding road to turn this particular item on our wish list into reality,” Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan Bathory said in a written statement when the song was released. “He was a lyrical warrior, a true original who spoke his mind incorruptibly. We have always viewed DMX as the metalhead of hip-hop because of his aggressive, raw, and untamed style.

“He growled and snarled, aiming to rattle some cages—an attitude we share, as Five Finger Death Punch has always been drawn to the fearless and the real. It made all the sense in the world, but today, this is more than just a song; it’s a salute to a legend, a way to honor DMX’s memory.”

DMX had an extensive battle with drugs and had been open about his struggles with addiction. His drug use started when he was 14 when a supposed mentor introduced him to crack cocaine.

The popular yet oft-troubled rapper and actor died on April 9, 2021, at White Plains Hospital in New York, a week after suffering a heart attack. He was 50 years old.

Former Mississippi Police Officer Sentenced To A Year In Prison After Making Prisoner Lick Urine Off Jail Floor

Michael Christian Green pleaded guilty on the misdemeanor charge of acting under the color of law to deprive a person of their civil rights.

A former patrol officer in Mississippi will serve a year-long prison sentence for forcing an arrested man to lick urine off a jail cell floor.

According to The Associated Press, Michael Christian Green was sentenced June 12. He is scheduled to go to federal prison for the maximum prison time July 26 on the misdemeanor charge of acting under the color of law to deprive a person of their civil rights.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Andrew S. Harris handed the 26-year-old the sentence after Green pleaded guilty to the offense on March 14, 2024.

Green committed the crime while on duty as a certified law enforcement officer with the Pearl Police Department.

The Associated Press reported that Green lost his job December 27, after security surveillance footage revealed his misdeed four days earlier.

The incident took place in Pearl, a suburb of the capital city of Jackson.

Video footage shows that after the prisoner was placed in a holding cell, he tried to alert Green that he needed to urinate.  Court records revealed that, after waiting for some time, the suspect relieved himself in a corner. After he had urinated, Green took him back into the cell and made him get on the floor and “suck it up.”

Green then took videos on his mobile phone when the man got on the ground and did as Green instructed. In the process of the man performing the deed, Green told him, “Don’t spit it out.”

City officials stated that they learned about the “disturbing event” over the Christmas weekend. After starting an investigation using an independent attorney, Mayor Jake Windham said Green resigned on Dec. 27.

The man who was arrested is identified in the court document only by his initials, B.E., the Associated Press reported. The security camera footage also showed Green threatening to beat B.E. with a phone.
