Jordyn Woods And NBA Star Karl-Anthony Towns Announce Engagement On Christmas Day

The longtime couple shared photos from a festive rooftop proposal in New York City, marking a new chapter in their relationship that began nearly five years ago.

Jordyn Woods and New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns revealed on Christmas Day that they are engaged, sharing images from the holiday proposal with fans on social media.

The couple announced the news in a joint Instagram post on Dec. 25, posting a series of photos from the moment Towns proposed. The caption playfully read, “Marry Christmas,” signaling both the season and the milestone in their relationship.

Towns, 30, dropped to one knee and presented Woods, 28, with a large emerald-cut diamond ring. In the photos, Woods appeared emotional as she accepted the proposal, smiling broadly as the pair embraced.

The engagement took place on the rooftop of Overstory, a well-known New York City venue offering panoramic views of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline. Several images show the couple hugging, kissing, and celebrating together following Woods’ response.

Woods was dressed for the winter setting in a white shearling coat layered over a cream-colored gown. Towns opted for a refined outfit as well, wearing a brown suede jacket over a collared shirt and striped tie, paired with black trousers.

Family members were present for the proposal and joined the couple afterward for photos. Woods’ younger sister, Jodie Woods, shared her excitement on Instagram Stories, calling the night “the most beautiful evening.”

Following the proposal, Woods and Towns celebrated privately with bottles of wine, continuing the festivities after a day that had already carried significance for the NBA star.

Earlier on Christmas Day, Towns played a key role in the Knicks’ 126–124 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers at Madison Square Garden. The performance came just two nights after an emotional loss against his former team, the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The win helped reinforce New York’s standing as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Towns finished the game with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

As previously reported, Woods and Towns began dating in 2020 after meeting through mutual friends. Before publicly confirming their relationship, the pair was rumored to be romantically linked in 2019.

Now engaged, the couple’s holiday announcement marks a significant evolution from friendship to marriage plans, shared with fans during one of the most celebrated times of the year.

Former ‘Lion King’ Child Star Fatally Stabbed, New Jersey Man Arrested

Our prayers to the family!

A 35-year-old Edison man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a former Broadway performer on Sunday morning, authorities announced.

Jordan D. Jackson-Small is facing charges of first-degree murder and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child following the death of 26-year-old Imani Dia Smith. The incident occurred just days before Christmas at a residence on Grove Avenue. The second-degree endangering charge reflects the grim reality that Smith’s 3-year-old son was likely present during the violent encounter.

According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan, authorities responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing at 9:18 a.m. on Dec. 21, 2025. Upon arrival, officers discovered Smith suffering from multiple stab wounds. Smith was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Domestic Violence Investigation

An initial investigation led by Detective Kevin Kirsh of the Edison Police Department and Detective Olivia Ankudowicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office identified Jackson-Small as the suspect. Officials confirmed that the victim and the defendant knew each other before the incident; the family has since identified Jackson-Small as Smith’s boyfriend.

In addition to murder and child endangerment, Jackson-Small is charged with third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. He is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing.

A Legacy on the Stage

The loss has sent shockwaves through the performing arts community. Smith was a gifted artist who achieved professional success at an early age, most notably as Young Nala in the Broadway production of Disney’s The Lion King. Her portrayal was a cornerstone of her early career, a role that required both immense technical discipline and a natural charisma that family members say she carried into every aspect of her life.

Her family described her as a “true triple-threat performer” whose creativity and joy left a lasting impact on those around her. She leaves behind a 3-year-old son, her parents, and two younger siblings.

“Imani had her whole life ahead of her. She was a vivacious, loving and fiercely talented person. A true triple-threat performer, she most notably played the role of Young Nala on Broadway in Disney’s The Lion King — an experience that reflected the joy, creativity, and light she put into the world,” her aunt, Kira Helper, wrote on the GoFundMe page for her fallen niece. “She was a vivacious, loving, and fiercely talented person.”

Support for the Family

The family has established a GoFundMe campaign to assist Smith’s parents, Monique Rance-Helper and Rawni Helper, as they navigate the sudden responsibility of raising their grandson. Beyond immediate funeral costs, the family is grappling with the logistical and psychological aftermath of the tragedy, including specialized trauma counseling for the young boy and the high costs of legal assistance as they prepare for the upcoming criminal proceedings. The family has asked for $75,000 and is close to the goal.

The family noted the particular hardship faced by Smith’s mother, a Broadway and film hairdresser, whose freelance income is significantly impacted by the time required for bereavement and administrative tasks. The fund is also intended to secure long-term support for Smith’s son and the family’s two younger children.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Kirsh at 732-718-8064 or Detective Ankudowicz at 732-745-8083.

Georgia Father Wins Custody Of Infant Son After Mother’s Death; Calls For Reform Of ‘Antiquated’ Laws

The ordeal began in early 2025 when Smith, a 30-year-old nurse who was nine weeks pregnant, suffered a severe medical emergency.

A Georgia father has been awarded sole legal and physical custody of his infant son following a months-long legal battle that began after the tragic death of the child’s mother. The case, which concluded in DeKalb County Superior Court this month, has prompted calls for legislative change to address what attorneys describe as a dangerous gap in state law regarding the rights of unmarried parents.

Adrian Harden was granted final custody of his son, Chance, on Dec. 2, 2025, by Judge Latisha Dear-Jackson. The ruling follows an emergency petition for legitimation filed after Harden discovered that, despite DNA proof of paternity, Georgia law granted him no automatic parental rights because he was not married to the child’s mother, Adriana Smith.

“I just want to make sure he’s got everything he needs,” Harden said, speaking publicly for the first time since the ordeal began. “For all the men that actually care for their child, that’s all we want—to make sure he’s got the best and knows that I care for him.”

The ordeal began in early 2025 when Smith, a 30-year-old nurse who was nine weeks pregnant, suffered a severe medical emergency. After being rushed to Emory University Hospital, doctors discovered multiple blood clots in her brain. She was declared brain dead on Feb. 19 but remained on life support for four months to allow the pregnancy to continue.

Their son, Chance, was born via emergency C-section on June 13, 2025, weighing just 1 pound, 13 ounces. Smith passed away four days later.

While grieving the loss of his partner and monitoring his son’s health in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Harden was confronted with a secondary crisis: Under Georgia law, the biological father of a child born out of wedlock has no legal standing or right to custody until a court formally “legitimates” the relationship.

The Fight Against Foster Care

Attorneys at Better Law Divorce Attorneys, who represented Harden, noted that without an immediate court intervention, the infant could have been placed in the custody of the Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS) and entered the foster care system.

“Mr. Harden did not have any legal rights here in Georgia,” said family attorney Melaniece Davis. “If a father has a child with a woman he is not married to, that father has no legal rights whatsoever, even in a tragic situation where the mother has passed.”

Lead attorney Adriana Gonzalez filed an emergency petition on Aug. 8, securing a temporary order on Sept. 3 that allowed Chance to go home with his father. The final order issued this month provides Harden with full legal and physical authority over his son’s upbringing and medical care.

A Push for Legislative Change

The case has sparked a broader conversation about parental rights in Georgia. Currently, a biological father’s name on a birth certificate or a positive DNA test is insufficient to establish legal parenthood if the parents are unmarried. The father must “legitimize” the child through a specific legal process to gain the right to inherit or seek custody.

Harden and his legal team are now advocating for “Chance’s Law” or similar reforms that would streamline the process for biological fathers to be recognized as legal parents, especially in cases of maternal death or incapacitation.

“I just look at him, I see his mama,” Harden shared. “He’s got a lot of life and a lot of spirit. I just want to keep that going.”

As Chance continues to grow and recover from his premature birth, Harden remains focused on his son’s health while hoping his legal struggle prevents other families from facing the same uncertainty.

3 Minors Learn How To Steal Car From Youtube Video, Got ‘Scared Straight’ By Ohio Police

The three kids began to cry out after getting caught for their extreme case of reckless driving.

Three kids in Ohio earned their spot on the naughty list after learning to steal a car from a YouTube video.

On Dec. 20, three Ohio minors tried their luck to steal a car after learning how to do so from an internet clip. However, the video must not have shown them how to actually drive in its minutes-long lesson, because their getaway appeared short-lived.

The trio’s joyride, led by their 11-year-old driver, came to an abrupt end when they crashed into someone’s house. The ordeal also sparked a police chase, as law enforcement quickly found the kids to teach them a lesson in reckless, and severely underage, driving.

Police rounded up the three “bad ass” kids, aged 8, 11, and 12, as they began to cry out for their moms while begging not go to jail. The Neighborhood Talk shared the clip.

The kids were immediately remorseful, wanting to state their innocence despite having clearly intended to cause trouble. However, the cops handled them like any other wannabe criminals, but made it known that their parents would get calls as well.

“We’ll call parents in a second,” explained the frustrated cop. “You guys are doing good, thank you for complying…we’re not going to jail right now. You’re going to be detained.”

Shocked by the audacity of these knucklehead children, they promptly put them in their rightful place, the back seat. While some expressed slight concern about their detention, others agreed they got precisely what they asked for when they decided to steal a car.

One wrote, “Normally, I would have a different opinion, but this was warranted. Them some bad ass kids for doing this, hopefully they learn from this!”

Other commenters agreed, saying the police warned them of what would really happen if they tried this again as adults.

“That 12-year-old laughing it was his idea, definitely wasn’t his 1st & clearly not going be the last,” wrote another user. ” The 11-year-old crying his heart out, this might have scared him straight. But thank God they’re safe but I laughed so hard at him crying cause that exactly wtf they get! The officers did they job treated them how [the f-ck] they acting.”

However, the kids may get more than a slap on the wrist and may not have access to the internet for a while. Although released to their parents, the little delinquents will face their charges in juvenile court.

Skyh Black, Kelli Ferrell And Two Lewis Host Surprise Holiday Giveaway At Decatur Walmart

The presence of these high-profile figures brought a palpable energy to the Decatur location.

In a surprise effort to brighten the holidays for local residents, actor Skyh Black, television personality Kelli Ferrell, and producer Two Lewis transformed a Decatur Walmart into a “festive giving hub” Tuesday evening.

The trio partnered with the community organization Food in the City for the activation, which took place on Dec. 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Walmart located on N. Decatur Street, a spokesperson shared with Black Enterprise. The group surprised more than a dozen families by filling shopping carts with high-demand gifts, including PlayStations, smartwatches, action figures, games, and various gadgets.

Beyond the pre-arranged toy display, the celebrities took to the aisles to personally hand out Walmart gift cards to unsuspecting shoppers. The generosity even spilled into the parking lot, where the group stopped passing cars to present gift cards to drivers to help with their holiday expenses.

Impacting the Community

One of the night’s most poignant moments occurred when the group presented a local mother with a $500 cash gift. The participants noted that the event was designed to provide immediate relief and joy to families navigating the financial pressures of the season.

“Christmas is my favorite holiday, and it’s truly rewarding to give back — especially when you see the smiles and feel the hugs from the kids and their families,” said Black, known for his role in BET’s All The Queen’s Men.

For producer and manager Two Lewis, husband of actress Naturi Naughton-Lewis, the event was a personal homecoming.

“Through my charity initiatives, I’ve done several activations this holiday season. I love pouring into Atlanta — my hometown,” Lewis said.

A Mission of Support

The presence of these high-profile figures brought a palpable energy to the Decatur location. As families navigated the store, they were met not with typical holiday stress but with an overwhelming display of support coordinated by Jakeem Smith, founder of Food in the City, and Walmart Store Manager Henry Lacy.

The selection of items was curated to spark immediate joy, ranging from essential household gadgets to the latest gaming electronics.

By personally escorting shoppers and loading carts, the team ensured that every recipient felt the “spirit of pouring into” the community.

For many in Market 20, the gesture served as a vital bridge during a difficult economic season, proving that collective action can yield significant local impact.

Ferrell, featured on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta, shared that her motivation stemmed from her own journey.

“As a single mom of four girls, I love being in a position to pour into other single mothers who are doing the best they can,” she added.

The holiday giveaway, held at Store 3118, concluded as the group remained on-site to pose for photos with fans and residents, reinforcing the message that the true spirit of the season lies in direct service to others.

Delaware State Rewards First Year Football Head Coach DeSean Jackson With Contract Extension

'We have some unfinished business to take care of on the field, and I am proud to be a part of the athletic transformation taking place at the school.'

Nearly a year after he signed to lead the Delaware State University football team, former NFL player DeSean Jackson has earned a contract extension after the team rebounded from a 1-11 season to an imposing 8-4 (4-1 in conference play) record this year.

The school, which almost claimed the MEAC title, lost to eventual champions South Carolina State University after not recording a winning season since 2012. Delaware rewarded Jackson by extending his deal until 2028. Jackson is one of the latest former NFL players (thanks, in part, to Deion Sanders’ coaching at an HBCU before heading to the University of Colorado Boulder) to enrich an HBCU program by leveraging their playing experience to raise HBCUs’ prominence.

This was the school’s best finish in nearly 20 years.

“Just two days before Christmas last year, I began the next phase of my professional career, as a first-time head coach, in a community I did not know, with players I did not recruit, said Jackson. “It was not easy, but it was important. Giving my whole self to these young men and representing one of the best Historically Black Colleges in the country has been a high honor and one I do not intend to take for granted. We have some unfinished business to take care of on the field, and I am proud to be a part of the athletic transformation taking place at the school.”

Delaware State University has won the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) title five times under Coach Bill Collick, with high expectations to win one soon under Jackson’s leadership.

Along with the quick turnaround from 1-11 to 8-4, Delaware State also led the FCS (NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision) in rushing.

Jackson’s presence allowed several of his players to be recognized for their play throughout the season.

The team now has five players who are MEAC First Team selections: running back Marquis Gillis, the MEAC leader in rushing with 1,197 yards; running back James Jones, named the Impact Player of the year by the HBCU Superlative Awards; offensive linemen Jestus Johnson and Isaiah Cook; and linebacker Brian Bates.

Veterans’ Disability Pay Boosted In 2026 Cost-Of-Living Adjustment

The raise varies by a veteran's disability rating.

Good news for veterans: VA disability pay will increase with a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment in 2026.

Following a recent VA benefits update, disability compensation is set to increase with the 2026 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), confirmed at 2.8% and effective Dec. 1, Mint reports. With the VA disability pay increase confirmed for 2026, eligible veterans with a spouse or dependent will see their monthly benefits rise from $1,500 to $1,545, specifically provided they meet the dependency and disability requirements, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The raise varies by a veteran’s disability rating: for a 10% rating, benefits increase from $175.51 to $180.42, while for a 100% rating, benefits increase from $3,831.30 to $3,938.58.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers a wide array of benefits to veterans and eligible family members, including monthly tax-free disability payments, healthcare, education, housing assistance, and burial support. These benefit increases aim to help veterans manage rising living costs amid economic uncertainty and inflation.

Even modest increases in VA disability benefits carry significant long-term value for veterans who rely on the program. These annual adjustments reflect a sustained commitment to supporting veterans for their service to the country, rather than a temporary relief. Incremental growth helps provide financial stability for veterans and their families, and the January 2026 updates serve as a meaningful recognition of their service—more than just a symbolic gesture.

Eligible veterans must meet specific qualification criteria, including a confirmed 60% service-connected disability rating. Only those with an honorable discharge and U.S. citizenship or legal residency are eligible. Enrollment for the VA payout is automatic, and no reapplication or new claim submission is required for the 2026 adjustment.

The latest update on the 2026 VA disability adjustments confirms that the new rates are finalized. Veterans with a 60% service-connected rating will see their dependent-based monthly payout increase from $1,500 to $1,545, effective with the January payment cycle.

Buddhist Monks Stop In Selma On Their ‘Walk For Peace,’ Honoring City’s Civil Rights History

The stop in Selma held extra significance given the city's place in civil rights history.

Buddhist Monks are advocating for change with their “Walk For Peace” across America, stopping in one historical city for justice.

The group began its 2,300-mile walk on Oct. 26 in Fort Worth, Texas. Despite plans to end their hike at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., next year, the monks made a pit stop at a monumental place.

On Dec. 19, the group made it to Selma, Alabama, also known for its history in the Civil Rights Movement. Selma is most famous for its 1965 march to Montgomery to advocate for voting rights. The first of many marches, led by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., resulted in the infamous “Bloody Sunday,” where white supremacists attacked multiple marchers on the Edmund Pettis Bridge. This year, local leaders highlighted the day’s 60th anniversary.

However, the tragedy became a mark of resilience and change for the activists, turning the tide on voting rights for Black Americans. Now, it remains a pivotal place for remembrance, with the Monks paying tribute to those who fought for change on that very walk.

The Fort Worth-based Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center organized the walk to promote kindness, compassion, and unity with each stride. Each day, they trekked 20 to 25 miles, ending up in Selma for a community luncheon at the Historic Riverfront Park.

On the schedule, community members joined monks on their walk to the Civil Rights Memorial Park. The effort expressed a joint commitment to the values of equality and peace for all, no matter one’s station in life.

With their canine companion Aloka strutting alongside them, the walk had not encountered sunny skies the entire way through. However, the monks have remained steadfast in completing their mission, no matter the weather or obstacles. Upon completion, they hope to encourage all to make peace a part of their daily practice with this symbolic walk.

As of Christmas Eve, the group has made it just past Alabama as they make their way to D.C. by February 2026.

Luxury Beauty Icon Pat McGrath Labs Heads To Auction In Distressed Asset Sale Managed By Hilco Global

Complete bid requirements and auction details are available through Hilco Global’s IP practice.

Pat McGrath Labs, the high-end cosmetics brand once hailed as a “beauty unicorn” with a billion-dollar valuation, is currently undergoing a formal asset sale managed by Hilco Global. The move marks a significant shift for the cult-favorite label as it seeks a strategic turnaround following years of operational challenges.

Hilco Global’s Intellectual Property practice announced that it is accepting bids for the acquisition of the brand, including collateral pledged by Pat McGrath Cosmetics, LLC, and Patricia McGrath. Qualified bids are due by Jan. 26, 2026, at 7 a.m. PST. A formal auction is scheduled to take place via Zoom on Jan. 27, 2026, with an option for participants to appear in person.

The sale includes the brand’s extensive intellectual property, trademarks, and associated assets. According to Hilco Global, Pat McGrath Labs remains a powerhouse in the creative space, recognized for its “high-performance formulas, richly pigmented eyeshadows, iconic lip products and luxurious, statement-making collections.”

From Unicorn Status to Distressed Sale

The transition to a distressed sale follows a period where the brand’s rapid global expansion reportedly outpaced its operational fundamentals. In 2018, Pat McGrath Labs reached a $1 billion valuation after securing a massive investment from Eurazeo Brands. However, the company subsequently struggled with scaling issues, executive turnover, and a shifting retail landscape, leading to a significant drop in its valuation.

The decline serves as a cautionary tale within the prestige beauty sector. While the brand excelled in creative output, industry insiders noted that the logistical infrastructure often lagged behind its viral marketing success. This operational friction led to a series of management restructures that ultimately failed to stabilize the brand’s bottom line. Hilco Global’s involvement signals a final push to preserve the brand’s equity under new stewardship that can reconcile its artistry with sustainable business practices.

Strategic Timing and Future Outlook

The auction comes at a pivotal moment for the brand’s namesake founder. McGrath was recently appointed as the Creative Director for Louis Vuitton’s La Beauté makeup line, a move that reaffirmed her individual standing as one of the most influential makeup artists in history.

For potential investors, the allure lies in the brand’s unique positioning at the intersection of high fashion and retail accessibility. The IP portfolio includes not only patented formulas but also a digital footprint that remains among the most engaged in the industry. As the broader color cosmetics category faces increased competition from celebrity-backed labels, the acquisition of a proven legacy brand like Pat McGrath Labs offers a rare entry point into the luxury tier.

While McGrath’s personal influence remains high, the brand has faced a difficult period marked by a decline in valuation and management changes. The upcoming auction offers a potential buyer the opportunity to revitalize a brand that redefined luxury cosmetics through technical innovation and inclusive artistry. Under the current sale process, the goal is to capitalize on a brand that continues to “push technical and creative boundaries” while resetting its financial trajectory.

The January auction will provide a platform for potential investors to bid on the trademarks and IP that once disrupted the global beauty industry. Complete bid requirements and auction details are available through Hilco Global’s IP practice.

Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart

Martha Stewart Joins Best Buddy Snoop Dogg As Minority Owner Of Swansea City AFC

'We are delighted to confirm Martha, who has built a long and successful career as America’s leading homemaking and lifestyle expert, has followed Snoop and Luka Modric in becoming a minority owner of our football club,' the team stated.

California recording artist Snoop Dogg has been involved with Swansea City soccer club since he appeared in a team promotion in July, and now one of his best buddies, Martha Stewart, has become an investor, joining him as a minority owner.

As the year comes to a close, Swansea City AFC announced that Stewart is officially among the minority owners of the franchise. Stewart attended a recent game. The team stated she was there as a guest, but they announced her role in an official capacity.

“Martha is a close friend of Snoop Dogg, and she came to the Wrexham game as our guest. But we are delighted to confirm that Martha, who has built a long and successful career as America’s leading homemaking and lifestyle expert, has followed Snoop and Luka Modric in becoming a minority owner of our football club. We are very excited to welcome Martha on board, and we know experiencing Friday night’s game in-person has only increased her own enthusiasm and anticipation for being part of Swansea City.”

Snoop became a minority owner of the team after unveiling the team’s newest home kit earlier this summer, fueling speculation that he was part of the franchise.

At the time of Snoop’s announcement as a minority soccer team owner, he said, “My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City. The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working-class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me. I’m proud to be part of Swansea City. I am going to do all I can to help the club, and I look forward to getting to know all my YJBS.”

The news comes less than a week after the team introduced a new clothing line in a collaboration with Legends and Snoop Dogg’s Death Row Records. The Legends x Swansea City x Death Row Records new collection features limited-edition items, including hoodies, T-shirts, quarter-zips, and joggers. Each piece of merchandise will be embedded with Swansea’s badge, Death Row’s iconography, and Legends’ athleisure wear.

The soccer team’s merchandise was recently made available online on Dec. 19, and the franchise suggests that if you want to get your hands on some of the items, you should act fast, as the limited items won’t be restocked.
