Thousands Of Delays At Major Airports Impact U.S. Travelers Nationwide

Thousands of delays across major airports hubs impact US travelers nationwide.

Nearly 5,000 flight delays and hundreds of cancellations have left American travelers stranded at airports across the country.

On Dec. 29, U.S. airports reported 4,946 flight delays and 470 cancellations, with major hubs contributing heavily to the disruptions, Travel and Tour World reported. Chicago O’Hare International led with 623 delays and 65 cancellations, while Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International saw 316 delays and 130 cancellations.

Flight disruptions affected airports nationwide, including Dallas/Fort Worth Intl with 295 delays and 22 cancellations, JFK with 247 delays and 20 cancellations, LAX with 227 delays and 20 cancellations, and Miami Intl with 221 delays and 17 cancellations. Orlando Intl recorded 256 delays and 25 cancellations, Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood Intl 303 delays and 22 cancellations, Minneapolis–Saint Paul Intl 287 delays and 68 cancellations, Boston Logan 169 delays and 41 cancellations, LaGuardia 145 delays and 29 cancellations, and Detroit Metro 152 delays and 27 cancellations.

Delays dominated over cancellations at most airports, pointing to network congestion rather than widespread schedule shutdowns. Delta, American, JetBlue, and Spirit were hit hardest across multiple hubs. Delta faced numerous delays and cancellations at ATL, MSP, DTW, LGA, JFK, LAX, BOS, MCO, FLL, and MIA. American had notable delays at MIA (111), DFW (190), LAX (33), and JFK (19). JetBlue saw delays at JFK (112), BOS (65), FLL (78), and MCO (33), while Spirit experienced disruptions at FLL (74), MCO (35), and ORD (112 via SkyWest/Spirit). Other major carriers, including United, Southwest, and Alaska, were affected mostly by delays rather than cancellations.

Due to the delays, travelers should anticipate longer gate holds and taxi-out times, especially at major hubs, along with a higher risk of missed connections from cascading delays. Rebooking and standby options may be limited, particularly at busy airports. Short-haul and domestic routes are also experiencing disruptions.

Passengers are advised to monitor airline apps and airport monitors closely for real-time updates.

Laveranues Coles spent nearly a decade outrunning defenders in the NFL. Today, he walks parking lots and patrols city streets in Jacksonville, Florida, wearing a police uniform — a role he says finally gives his life a sense of direction he said he once lacked. In an interview with ESPN, Coles opened up about his journey.

Coles, now in his late 40s, recently stood outside a Target in Jacksonville when an elderly shopper approached him. Unaware of his past as one of the league’s most productive wide receivers in the early 2000s, she saw only a police officer in tactical gear. “I feel safe with you here,” she told him. The comment left a lasting impression. “Meant the world to me,” Coles said, calling it the most rewarding moment of his journey into law enforcement.

Coles’ decision to join the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has puzzled many who know him. Over 10 NFL seasons — including seven with the New York Jets — he earned roughly $42 million. He has said money played no role in his career change, noting that his police salary is a fraction of his playing income. “This isn’t a money thing,” he said.

Instead, Coles said he was searching for purpose. Raised in Jacksonville, he became a local star at Ribault High School before playing at Florida State under legendary coach Bobby Bowden. “I want people to understand that no matter what stage you’re in, it’s never too late to get up and do something,” he said.

After retiring from football in 2009, Coles explored several ventures, including business investments, community programs, and time spent with his children. He eventually earned an online degree in criminology, which reignited an interest in policing. Encouraged by friends in the sheriff’s department, he enrolled in the academy at age 47.

The move sparked mixed reactions. Some praised his commitment to service, while others worried about his safety or questioned the optics. “It’s not something that America loves, like football,” Coles said. “People’s opinions, especially the people that are closest to me, really matter.”

Former Jets teammate Wayne Chrebet supported him without hesitation. “After everything he’s done in his life, to do this in his late 40s, I was like, ‘This is incredible,’” Chrebet said.

Coles’ life has long intersected with the justice system — on both sides. As a college athlete, he faced arrests that derailed his standing at Florida State and damaged his draft stock. Looking back, he now views those moments differently. “Really, being honest, it was the best thing that happened to me,” he said.

Few knew at the time that Coles was also carrying trauma from childhood sexual abuse at the hands of his stepfather, who later served prison time. Coles has said a police officer helped him feel safe when he finally disclosed the abuse — an experience that shaped his view of law enforcement. “Now,” he said, smiling, “I’m actually the one pulling up to the scene trying to make things better.”

The academy tested him physically and mentally. Despite multiple hip surgeries and lingering injuries from football, Coles completed hundreds of hours of mandatory training. There were moments he considered quitting, but he pushed forward. “Dad never quits anything,” he recalled his son once saying.

Now assigned to Jacksonville’s Riverside district, Coles responds to crashes, domestic disputes, and thefts. He has also encountered moments that challenge his emotions, including issuing a citation to an elderly man caught stealing groceries. “My heart felt for him,” Coles said. “I know he made a bad decision, but a bad decision shouldn’t define your life.”

Coles says his past allows him to connect with people in crisis. “Anything about his past, to be on the other side of that, it’s kind of like a full-circle thing,” Chrebet said.

For Coles, the uniform represents something football never could. “It gives me a sense of purpose,” he said. “Whether I’m here or not, police are patrolling the streets. I just want to do my part.”

Following the release of “What Happened To the Streets?,” Atlanta-based recording artist 21 Savage has taken to social media, seemingly seeking to keep the streets out of the music game. By using his platform, he reached out to several artists to try to convince them to “f**k the streets,” as he stated that it’s only trauma out there.

21 Savage appears to be trying to get his Atlanta heads in the game, focusing on the music industry rather than street politics. He reached out to Young Thug and Gunna via X to encourage them to set aside their differences and reconnect the bond they had before Thug’s RICO trial. Thug and Gunna were like Batman and Robin before the crime allegations made their way to an Atlanta court.

Following Gunna’s plea deal to be dropped from the case and avoid prison time, some speculated that he “ratted” on Thug to secure the favorable agreement. When the announcement was made, Gunna had to admit in court that YSL (Young Stoner Life Records) was a gang. Prosecutors alleged that YSL wasn’t just a record label, but an enterprising gang, Young Slime Life, which is what YSL really stood for.

In the initial social media post, Savage directed the message to the former rap partners.

What Changes Could Occur If Marijuana Is Legalized, Rescheduled In 2026

To date, marijuana, also known as weed, is a Schedule I drug along with heroin, LSD, and ecstasy.

Given the changes that occurred at the state levels in favor of marijuana, there is a chance the drug will become rescheduled to a lower level or legalized, with President Donald Trump being an unlikely champion.

After Trump announced on Truth Social that he would vote yes on an amendment to legalize marijuana in Florida, he is standing on that promise by recently considering a plan to reschedule marijuana to a Schedule III drug on the federal level. The move has been on the docket for several years, with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recommending the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reschedule marijuana in 2023, The Hill reports.

To date, marijuana, also known as weed, is a Schedule I drug along with heroin, LSD, and ecstasy. Listing it as Schedule III would put it in a group with ketamine, testosterone, and codeine-laced Tylenol. While Trump said in that Truth Social post that he believes “it is time to end needless arrests and incarcerations of adults for small amounts of marijuana for personal use,” rescheduling marijuana wouldn’t make it legal for recreational use nationwide, keeping it a controlled substance.

Instead, the change would highlight the medical uses of cannabis by recognizing that it has a smaller chance of abuse than other dangerous drugs. Becoming a Schedule III drug would make marijuana research easier and cut federal taxes paid by research companies.

The research aspect was touched on during a press briefing, stating that the president was “focused on increasing medical research for medical marijuana and CBD — cannabidiol” by signing an executive order to speed up the rescheduling process.

“Unless a doctor recommends a drug for medical reasons, just don’t do it. At the same time, the facts compel the federal government to recognize that marijuana can be legitimate in terms of medical applications when carefully administered,” Trump said.

But marijuana experts feel there is more to the story than what the administration is projecting. While Trump’s order instructs Attorney General Pam Bondi to “take all necessary steps to complete the rulemaking process related to rescheduling marijuana to Schedule III” of the Controlled Substances Act,” executive director of the Cannabis Regulators Association, Gillian Schauer, points out that “The Controlled Substances Act [of 1970] does not grant any president the authority to reschedule a drug unilaterally.”

“It’s hard to see the big headlines of, ‘Marijuana rescheduled to [Schedule] III; marijuana research will open,’” Schauer said, according to NPR.

“You know, those things are not true as of now.”

The suggested changes either have to go through an act of Congress or a rulemaking process.

However, other experts feel the changes will bring positive financial changes to the industry, like no longer seeing restrictive punitive tax codes applying to marijuana businesses. Under Internal Revenue Code Section 280E, Ascend Wellness Holdings and other cannabis companies are obligated to pay taxes on income; however, because their core product is a Schedule I drug, the IRS denies them standard tax deductions, resulting in a higher effective tax rate, says Sam Brill, CEO of Ascend.

Brill feels 280E shouldn’t apply to them, so the company is putting aside a large reserve fund, just in case the IRS comes after it. But he hopes that marijuana being rescheduled will lead to restrictions being taken off, especially being able to accept credit cards.

“The lack of use of a credit card is really one of the biggest challenges for customers,” Brill said, touching on the importance of payday to the industry.

“For us, Friday by far is the biggest day every single week because this is a cash business.”

SIAC Player Of The Year Fabien Duncan Transfers To Rival JCSU For 2026 Season

After making history at Allen University this past season, football player Fabien Duncan has entered the transfer portal and will play at rival school, Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU).

According to HBCU Gameday, Duncan will be suiting up for Johnson C. Smith, the current CIAA (Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) football champions. The dominant running back is the reigning SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate) Player of the Year, after having a successful season breaking school records.

During this past season, Duncan became the first player in Allen University history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season. He ran for more than 100 yards in six games, and in 11 games, he rushed for 1,301 yards and 15 touchdowns. He set the school’s single-game rushing record when he ran for 229 yards on 46 carries in a game against Clark Atlanta, also scoring three touchdowns in that game. He tied the record for the most touchdowns in a football game at Allen.

He was the leader in rushing yards and touchdowns in the conference.

The running back helped Allen finish with its second-best season in school history. The team finished fourth in the SIAC and ranked eighth among Division II HBCU programs.

Duncan and the team’s offensive line set several records, including total rushing yards, total touchdowns, and single-game rushing production.

Allen head coach Cedric Pearl said he has been impressed with Duncan since he arrived at the Division II campus last season.

“Well, Duncan has been the same way since he walked in the door last year,” Pearl said. “Extremely quiet, confident, hard worker, great team guy, and great character. Guys like that, great things happen.”

Duncan is returning home, as he is from Charlotte, where Johnson C. Smith is located. Allen University is in Columbia, S.C.

Where’s The Oversight? Democrats Accuse Trump Cabinet Of Dodging Congress

Democrats question whether the Trump administration is dodging Capitol Hill hearings to keep secrets.

The pattern of Trump administration leaders not testifying publicly on Capitol Hill is causing leaders of the Democratic Party to wonder if this is another strategy to avoid the legislative branch—and keep secrets.

There are several important issues that lawmakers’ constituents want to hear about from members of the Trump administration. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. hasn’t testified before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee since May 2025 amid growing concerns on his vaccine skepticism.

Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) claims he had a commitment from Kennedy to testify once a quarter if asked, the Washington Post reports. But that has yet to happen.

Similar instances have occurred with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem, who has pushed against testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee amid growing criticism of ICE agents terrorizing the streets of metro U.S. cities. Defense—or Department of War Secretary—Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio decided to brief lawmakers privately on the administration’s controversial strikes on boats accused of carrying drugs on the Caribbean Sea. But voters have yet to hear from them about the strikes.

And Democrats want to know why.

“We’ve had no serious public congressional hearings on the threat of military conflict off the coast of Venezuela, no public testimony from defense officials on this issue,” Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) said. “Where are Senate Republicans? Where’s the oversight?”

Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island, a top Democrat serving on the Senate Armed Services Committee, described December 2025 as being “entirely dissatisfied with the Trump administration’s engagement with Congress” especially regarding the boat strikes that have killed more than 100 people.

While White House spokesperson Anna Kelly released a statement that the administration communicates with lawmakers on the regular, “constantly explaining our policies and receiving real-time feedback to ensure we are most effectively implementing the agenda the American people elected President Trump to enact,” the receipts say differently.

Key figures in the administration testified more during year one of former President Joe Biden’s reign than they have since President Donald Trump took over, with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee having two full committee hearings with administration witnesses in 2025—down from 24 hearings in 2021. The House Foreign Affairs Committee made 47 appearances in 2021 alone and only 12 this year.

Of course, GOP members like Sen. James E. Risch (R-ID), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, disagree with Democrats. Risch said he is “very satisfied” with the team’s engagement and “looks forward to more hearings” in the new year.

Republicans hyping up the administration’s “engagement” could just be another strategy to keep them at the forefront of voters as midterm season is getting ready to gear up. During an appearance on Fox News, Republican strategist Karl Rove encouraged Trump leaders to hype up the accomplishments as an attempt to guarantee support in the midterms.

According to The Hill, Rove pointed out that Trump is ending the year with the “lowest approval rating in modern times for a president” and he “has got to get those numbers up. He [Trump] needs to lower the expectations, and over-deliver. Under-promise and over-deliver ought to be the goal of the next year.”

Added Rove, “Americans are not feeling the economy is great. For him to stand up and say—as he did first in Pennsylvania, then in North Carolina—that ‘everything is great,’ it does not resonate with the felt experience of ordinary American families.”

Russell Wilson And Ciara Donate $3M To Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital In NYC

Russell and Ciara Wilson brought holiday cheer with a $3 million donation to a New York City children’s hospital.

New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson is making a major impact at a local children’s hospital in New York City through regular visits and a massive donation.

Wilson and his Grammy-winning wife, Ciara, have donated $3 million to Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital on the Upper East Side, ABC 7 NY reported. The donation, made through the famous couple’s Why Not You Foundation, comes along with weekly visits Wilson makes to the children’s hospital.

“You know, my dad was unfortunately always in the hospital; he had diabetes. My mom was an ER nurse when I was growing up. So, for me, I felt like, ‘How could I make a difference somewhere?’” Wilson shared.

The donation will fund new therapeutic play and creative arts spaces at Kravis Children’s Hospital, including the Child Life Zone Theater —dubbed “The Zone” — where kids can enjoy movies, performances, family events, and creative arts therapy without doctors present. It will also support the Play Space in the Jack Martin Fund Inpatient Unit for Children’s Cancer and Blood Disease, the hospital’s only on-unit playroom for immunocompromised pediatric cancer patients.

Pediatric patients at the hospital have also been enjoying Wilson’s joy and thoughtful gifts during his weekly visits. The Wilsons’ foundation has maintained a long-standing partnership with the hospital through the Jack Martin Fund.

Popular Tech YouTuber Lamarr Wilson Dies At 48

The longtime content creator, known online as the “Tech Lifestyle Entertainer,” was remembered by loved ones and fans for his energy, creativity and influence across the tech community.

Lamarr Wilson, a well-known technology influencer and veteran YouTuber with millions of followers across social media, has died at the age of 48, according to officials and statements from his family.

As reported by the Daily News, public records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirm that Wilson died on Nov. 21 at a residence in Los Angeles. The cause of death was listed as asphyxia and suffocation. Authorities did not release additional details surrounding the circumstances.

Concerns about Wilson’s well-being first began circulating in mid-November, when followers noticed a sudden halt in his typically frequent online activity. Wilson, who often posted multiple times per week, had not shared new content for several days. His final video was uploaded on Nov. 12.

The family publicly confirmed his death on Dec. 13 in a Facebook post, expressing both grief and pride in his accomplishments. “We, the Wilson Family, are heartbroken with this news of Lamarr’s passing,” the statement read. “He had so many projects in the making, scheduled and contracted with various tech and media companies requesting his expertise.”

The family also acknowledged the outpouring of support following the announcement. They thanked Wilson’s management team and “all the fans he mentored, helped or inspired” throughout his career.

Known to his audience as the “Tech Lifestyle Entertainer,” Wilson built a following of nearly 3.5 million people across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. His content blended humor with accessible reviews of consumer technology, including smartphones, computers, gaming consoles, and smart home products.

Over the years, Wilson collaborated with major technology companies such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Nintendo. He was also a longtime contributor to the Daily Tech News Show podcast, where he appeared regularly for more than a decade. In addition, Wilson hosted and produced two digital series for Mashable — YouTube Weekly and Socially Awkward.

Shortly before his death, the YouTube influencer had been selected to serve as a judge for the upcoming CES Innovation Awards in Las Vegas, scheduled for January. This role reflected his standing within the tech industry.

Following news of his passing, fans flooded social media with tributes and personal reflections. “Rest in peace, man, you were always so energetic and entertaining,” one follower wrote. Another shared how Wilson’s videos helped them through a difficult time, crediting him with bringing light during a “dark moment.”

As messages continued to circulate online, many described Wilson as both influential and deeply human — a creator whose enthusiasm left a lasting impression well beyond the screen.

Stefon Diggs Catches Another $500K Bonus With 80th Reception Of Season

The bonus occurred one week after Diggs landed a $500,000 stat-based bonus.

A week after earning an additional $500,000 to his annual salary, New England Patriots’ Stefon Diggs made another $500,000 after reaching 80 receptions for the season.

According to CBS Sports, the wide receiver entered the contest against the New York Jets with 76 receptions, only needing four to reach the financial bonus. He did so in grand fashion with a little over three minutes remaining in the first quarter of the game. Quarterback Drake Maye threw the ball to him while at their own 34-yard line. Diggs caught the ball over a defender and tapped both feet along the sideline to get his bonus and keep the Patriots’ drive alive.

Diggs ended the game with six catches, 101 receiving yards, and one touchdown. For the season, he has 82 receptions for 970 yards, setting him up for another incentive in the last week of the regular season. If he gets 30 yards in the next game, hitting 1,000 for the season, he will walk away with another $500,000.

With its blowout 42-10 blowout win against the Jets, the Patriots improved to 13-3 for the season. If they beat the Miami Dolphins next week, their 14-3 record would be their best since 2016, when the Tom Brady-led Pats finished 14-2 and won the Super Bowl.

If they win and the Los Angeles Chargers beat the Denver Broncos, the Patriots will end the season as the AFC’s No. 1 seed, earning a first-round bye. This is a remarkable turnaround from last season, when they went 4-13.

Diggs’ presence on the team has helped the franchise become an elite team again. After suffering a torn ACL during his lone season with the Houston Texans, Diggs inked a three-year, $63.5 million deal with the Patriots in March, with $22.6 million guaranteed.

The Ultimate Betrayal: Oklahoma Man Believes Date Orchestrated Failed Christmas Morning Home Robbery

Two women were arrested in connection with an alleged burglary plot, while multiple male suspects remain at large and are considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Police in Newcastle, Oklahoma, are asking for the public’s help after an attempted home invasion early Christmas morning that authorities say involved multiple suspects, two of whom have already been arrested.

According to the Newcastle Police Department, officers responded to reports of a burglary in progress at a residential home, but several male suspects fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Investigators say the incident appears to have been planned, with surveillance footage showing activity that escalated into an attempted forced entry.

Homeowner Arthur Jones said he became alarmed when he noticed suspicious behavior outside his residence. “They were running around, running back and forth in my front yard, trying to figure out how they could penetrate or try to make their arrangements to get inside my house,” Jones said.

Jones described the experience as frightening, saying several men attempted to kick in his front door while he was inside the home. Earlier that evening, Jones said he had invited a woman over to spend time with him on a date.

“We were listening to music, watching videos, and having a few drinks,” he said. Jones now believes the date was part of a coordinated effort to rob him.

Video from Jones’ doorbell camera captured the moments leading up to the attempted break-in, showing the two women repeatedly entering and exiting the home before several men arrived at the door. At one point, one of the women appeared to tell the men to leave.

“I was getting alerts from my phone that they were walking out my door, and I realized that they were trying to rob me,” Jones said.

Shortly afterward, police say the men attempted to force their way inside. Officers later canvassed the area and located the two women believed to be involved in the incident. Both were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and first-degree burglary.

“The subjects had fled prior to the officer’s arrival, and they canvased the area and were able to locate two females that were involved, and they arrested them,” said Detective Kevin Morrissey of the Newcastle Police Department.

Authorities say the women are not cooperating with the investigation. Jones said he hopes accountability follows. “I mean, they need to come to justice,” he said. “I need them to be punished and notified, you know, that this wasn’t cool, this wasn’t right.”

Police say the male suspects are still at large and are considered armed and dangerous. They are described as four Black men, three wearing black hooded sweatshirts and one wearing a blue hoodie. Detectives are seeking help identifying at least three suspects captured on surveillance video.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Newcastle Police Department or dial 911. Members of the public are advised not to approach the suspects.
